Rashida Tlaib has set up a petition to send to the White House to recognize and stop the ethnic cleansing and forced displacement happening in Gaza. If you’re a US citizen please sign. I agree that they could make it more clear on the website, but the first like DOES NOT require a donation. They are following the standard format of asking for a donation after you have successfully signed, and it sucks that Rashida Tlaib’s petition is potentially being passed over because of misinformation.

ok but i'm thinking about james somerton and how his plagiarism was particularly egregious bc he was plagiarizing people in his own community.
and i'm thinking about how plenty of people only know how to speak of their marginalized identities in the context of their own oppression, or how those communities can benefit them, without meaningfully building solidarity with others who understand what they've experienced.
and honestly i feel sorry for them because there is so much richness in community and so much to be celebrated about our identities. it's not all oppression, it's culture it's joy it's tenaciousness and temerity in the face of those who want to see us fail. but it's hard to see that when all you see is yourself, "fighting the good fight" without seeing those who are fighting along with you. and you definitely don't get that if you only view those people as stepping stones to your own success.

some of the envelopes, and cards! they’re currently sitting where i normally put my flowers, when i have them. 🥹 the pop-up flowers (aren’t they pretty?) can act in place of vase ones. 🥹🌷🌿
and here are some close-ups!!! i opened the box in company and like, the gasp i let out when i realised what so many of these things were was—alarming, apparently, lmao. the handmade enamel mermaid tail!!! jeweller anon!!!! i read your letter first and like, the way my heart pounded when i realised. 😭 it’s beautiful, and no photo can do the glimmer of the colours justice. 🥺 no dinky photo can do any of these things justice, or the way i felt unwrapping them—the felt top-loader, in bakugou colours, and how vibrant it is. 🥺 how long it must’ve taken! the tiny golden seashell, on it’s bed of deep green, like seaweed. 🥺 the gleam of the pearl in the hold of our blue one, like mermaid treasure. 🥺 the stickers, the washi tape, the little drawings and funny notes on the letters—i cannot adequately express how they make me feel, or how i’ve poured each and every thing, marvelling. my birthday this year was quiet—by design!—so these kinds of gestures are overwhelming in their thoughtfulness and celebration.
thank-you everyone, for your time, and your thought and your effort in pulling this together. 🥺 i’m already gathering up my stationery and my stickers and tiny things to reply individually to you all. 💌 and also—a special thank-you to @cat-slippered, for being the one to make this happen.

General Rules:
All participants will be vetted before addresses are provided. Please message from or include your social media (Tumblr or otherwise) when reaching out, or your message will be ignored.
Please allow for a response time of 24 hrs, but afterwards feel free to bump your message.
The Mermie birthday party is still being planned and will only be open to participants. Additional rules around the birthday party will be promulgated at a later date.
Do not forward any addresses to anyone under any circumstances. Anyone seeking to participate should reach out to CatSlippers directly.Rule-breakers will be banned from future birthday parties.
Option 1: Snail Mail
Participants are invited to send a physical letter to a United States PO Box for collection. The letters will be combined and sent in one group package to OfMermaids, hopefully in time for her birthday.
Not in the USA? International mail is welcome, as long as it arrives before the cutoff date. However, please be mindful of your own shipping timelines and postal costs. The cutoff date for snail mail is Saturday, November 4th. All physical media must arrive by this date to be included in the group package.
