it's like. tommy loved wilbur enough that when wilbur tried to kill himself, tommy stood in the way and said "if you die, youre taking me too". phil loved wilbur enough that when wilbur tried to kill himself, phil picked up the sword and did it for him. because it is about love at the end of the day. not necessarily a "who loves wilbur more", but about the ways that phil and tommy love wilbur.

phil loves wilbur from afar, in letters and jokes and smiles. they have a love that comes easy because they don't deal with the bad things together, so when something Truly Bad happens phil has no fucking clue how to handle it. and does it how theyve always done it which is take the easiest route possible. he regrets it and stands by it and when his son is back in front of him, alive and not quite well, nothing changes.

but tommy is In there, in the bad with wilbur, trying his hardest to lead wilbur out of the dark with a match that keeps burning tommy's fingers but he keeps lighting it over and over because maybe, just maybe, if wilbur stays focused on the light he'll finally see the way out too. so when wilbur wants to take the easy way out, when he wants to blow up l'manburg and himself with it, tommy turns the match toward the tnt and says "and me?" and doesn't let wilbur go. he never lets wilbur go.

I JUST CANT STOP THINKING ABOUT IT LIKE. TOMMY LITERALLY TAKES OFF HIS ARMOR. LETS WILBUR TAKE DOWN THE BARRICADES. WITHOUT EVEN CONSULTING QUACKITY, TOMMY RISKS BOTH OF THEIR LIVES BY TELLING WILBUR THAT IF HE WANTS TO PRESS THE BUTTON HE HAS TO KILL THEM, ALL OF THEM, HE'LL BE TAKING TOMMY AND QUACKITY WITH HIM. AND IT BREAKS WILBUR DOWN BECAUSE TOMMY KNOWS WILBUR, KNOWS HOW TO WORK WITH HIM, KNOWS HOW TO TALK TO HIM. AND ALL PHIL HAD WAS "but youre my son!!!!" AND A SWORD TO THE STOMACH LIKE MAN. MAN. YOU NEVER KNEW YOUR SON AND THAT'S THE FUCKING TRAGEDY YOU DIDNT KNOW YOUR SON WELL ENOUGH TO KNOW YOU DIDNT HAVE TO KILL HIM
