The Perspective of Character
This entire entry is a semi-fantasy, non-fiction delve into a big ol' nothing burger. I am writing this not to sound impressive, and not to sound smart, but simply because I am sleep deprived and willing to fight god. The research papers and authors written and refrtenced are all fake, and if you attempt to derive any philisophical meaning out of this you did not understand it.
The Perspective of Character is a theorized mental state by au. McUren and developed from the philosophy of self. While the philosophical conversation referenced deals with questions akin to "Who am I?" at it's core, it becomes a far too vauge debate to have a simple back and forth. Some may say thay it is a debate snake, as it soon starts eating it's own tail in a never ending cycle. McUren's concept is to drill into a more specific question, and avoid the cosmically degrading definitions around conciousness and spirit. Instead her theory develops into a conceptual "character" that one would play amongst all possible iterations of themselves.
For more detail on the prior, we can see ancient philosophers such as Caddo of Wales claim that self is the physical being and any mental state or spirit is derived from that. While a solid interpretation and sensible from the understanding of the sciences at that point in history it quickly became an argument with the Spanish once cultures began intermingling.
As such, We can then turn to Spanish Philosopher ConcepciΓ³n of CΓ‘diz who devoted themself to the study of the Human Spirit. ConcepciΓ³n theorized that the Spirit was the true essence of a person, and that self was directly related to this invisible strength every living being contains. The theory extended further into how the Spirit can affect the physical form and furthermore hpw the physical can affect the Spiritual. Caddo and ConcepciΓ³n argued back and forth in many debate centres as this topic was developed further and further throughout the years. Eventually ConcepciΓ³n's theory became the commonplace, as although it had less functional evidence it had enough theoretical math that connected it to many mythological and ancient concepts, such as the concepts of Qi, Aura, and the elusive Karma.
Fun fact: Unrelated to the debates held between the two philosophers, it was rumoured that Caddo and ConcepciΓ³n were actually in love with each other but both unable to admit it publicly. There is even some circumstantial evidence that the two had long lasting encounters after events, however nothing has been confirmed.
Many philosophers have debated the concept of Self ever since these two giants carried the topic on their shoulders. The common view in the modern age is that the physical and spiritual are two seperate entities which hold equal dominion over the conciousness. This is where the debate quickly turned into questions of conciousness and will likely continue long after modern philosophers have passed on.
Returning to McUren's theory we can instead focus om a more interesting line of thinking. If the original philosophy poses the question "Who am I?" she used her theory to pose the question "Am I always myself?". The character is who you are by standard, and is not unwavering nor immutable by how the theory holds up. McUren then proceeds to detail many situations where the person is put into and how they respond to it through actions and thoughts alone. Are you still yourself when a loved one dies? Are you still yourself when you buy a new house? When are you playing your own character authentically, and when are you playing a cardboard facade of your character?
Furthering this idea McUren claimed that you are never playing anyone else but yourself in this "Character" concept (Unless you are an Actor of some kind but that's cheating according to her) and only the degree in which you fake being yourself is defined. Many people have disputed this as it leaves no room for discussion regarding Trans or Non-Bin typal, however McUren quickly dismisses these comments with statements regarding how one can play a character of themselves as a gender not associated with their identity. In this way, the theory claims that those of Trans and/or Non-Bin have always been themselves, and simply played a character to mask and protect themselves.
While this theory is still on it's first steps, and many people debate exactly what McUren means and how this interacts with previously developed philosophy and religeon. McUren herself is very defensive of the concepts she wrote about and has even sicc'ed her semi-feral brother on reporters who attempt to interview her.
