For Cassian Andor Week
[I wasnât able to write a new Cassian-centric piece this week, so for the âFree Dayâ today, here are a few headcanon bits and bobsâsome less serious than others.]Â
Cassian & his outerwear collection
People who think itâs unusual have clearly never lived in an extreme climate. Temperatures where I live can easily range from -40 to +40 Celsius over the course of six months. I own: one formal winter coat, three parkas of various lengths and insulation levels, two raincoats, and four spring/summer/fall shells. With 4 people in this household, our combined outerwear takes up one hallway closet and an off-season storage closet, plus an overflowing coat rack.Â
In conclusion, four pieces of outerwearâone leather jacket, one light jacket, one quilted vest, and one parka (only one?!?)âare the absolute minimum, and clearly demonstrate Cassianâs commitment to an ascetic life.
Cassian & languages
Other than Basic and Festian (his mother tongue), heâs fluent in Bothan; Huttese, because it always pays to be able to communicate with criminals; and Rodian, ditto bounty hunters.
He understands several more that he doesnât speak: Aqualish, a few different code forks of Binary (Imperial & Republican), a little Shyriiwook (enough to get most of Chewbaccaâs jokes), and Mando'a.

âHe remains active to stave off the downtime that would plunge him into deeper reflection on some of his most extreme assignments.â
- from Rogue One: the Ultimate Visual Guide
Heâd lost track of how long heâd been running, sweat slick on his face, lungs burning, his legs screaming for him to stop. But he kept going, vines and branches whipping and brushing him as the purple-barked trees flashed by.
His mind could focus here, focus on the exertion, the heart pounding adrenaline, the measured breathing. He could focus on the path ahead of him, dodging fallen tree trunks and avoiding swampy areas, remembering which way led to more favorable running conditions and which way led deeper into intractable jungle.
He could time himself, he could make it a game, he could catalog the flora and fauna he encountered. He could track the movement of the clouds in the sky, he could listen to the sounds of the jungle, the wind whistling through the leaves of the trees.
He would do this after returning from a particularly brutal mission, after his duties were done, debriefs performed, he would escape out into the jungle. No one looked for him then, everyone knew where he was and what he was doing.
The pounding of his feet on the jungle floor would distract him from the pounding of blaster fire in his head, and the curious gazes of the animals he encountered would distract him from the lifeless eyes of the victims he left behind. The heady scent of the jungle orchids always overpowered the smell of blaster wounds, which seemed to linger in his nose long after he squeezed the trigger. His eyes would remain wide, focused, to close them meant risking whatever horror his mind could recreate on the backs of his eyelids.
Returning to base always resulted in a quick trip to the âfresher, and then falling exhausted into bed and into a sleep hopefully devoid of the demons that had been chasing him that day.
Now, after Scarif, a detour was always made into the mess, where Bodhi was ready with his sabacc deck, Chirrut sipped his tea with a grin, and Baze nodded off on his shoulder. Jyn would always save a spot for him on the bench beside her, beckon him over with a smile. She never cared much about his sweaty state, just pressed close to him, shoulder to shoulder, knee against knee, as Bodhi dealt the cards.
CASSIAN ANDOR APPRECIATION WEEK DAY 7 - FREE DAY [HIS HERITAGE]
This is a personal headcanon of mine inspired purely by the fact that on the Wookiepedia it lists Cassianâs father as human but specifically says âunknown motherâ. Since Iâve read that Iâve imagined Cassian to be mixed, half human and half alien.

Cassian Andor Appreciation Week
âł Day 7: Free Day
The target on Jenoport was a weapons and information trader, a woman who worked for both the rebellion and the Empireâthough Cassian would classify that she only worked for herself. It had been an easy shot, clean and quick, and he should have been in and out and back into hyperspace with Kay in less than 30 minutes. But he hadnât counted on the boy being there, on the wandering child who found his mother slumped over on a cargo crate, a blaster hole through her head.
The child was maybe ten standard years, tousled blonde hair, cheeks still round with babyfat. He wasnât the same age as you when you lost you parents, he told himself, quickening his step, the bag with is disassembled rifle bouncing on his back. But his hands were still shaking. You were younger.
His legs burned as he moved faster and faster over the rocky terrain, and when he was within a klick of the ship, his eyes began to burn, too. He could still hear the childâs blood-curdling wail, a feral, animal scream of despair. What had he sounded like when his mother had died? When his father had?
Soon, he could see Kayâs spindly form in the distance and the glow of the light orbs turned in his direction. The droid loped his way toward Cassian and said, âGood, you made it back three minutes earlier than I had calculated. We can headââ but Kayâs words faltered as Cassian brushed past him, past their ship, and headed toward the cliff.
Chest tight, Cassian found a seat on a flat stone and stared out, vision blurred, at the horizon. He hadnât thought about his parents in years, and at the same time he thought about them every waking minute of his life. They were why he was here and here in this moment now. Now, he could almost count in decades the time between when he last had a family and when he had not. When was the last time he had held or been held by someone he loved, when an embrace hadnât been a tussle, when a kiss hadnât been guided by desperation and loneliness?
When he found his blaster out of his holster and in his hands, he didnât bother questioning his own intent. The cold metal warmed in his hands, all its familiar parts, the edges smoothed from wear from his fingers finding the trigger over and over again over the years.
âCassian?â K2SOâs heavy steps clanged behind him, a surprising note in his usual salty tone.
âYes, Kay?â His voice sounded hoarse to his own ears.
âWe need to return to base. The three minutes extra minutes you saved have now passed, and we are now behind schedule.â
âThank you, Kay.â
âCassian?â
Kay stepped closer, and Cassian could hear his joints shift as though he were crouching. âWhat is it?â
âIf your continued dignity and service demand it, when we are onboard the ship, I can perform a voluntary memory wipe of this moment.â
Cassian laughed, felt the weight lift off his chest. âThat wonât be necessary, my friend.â
âAffirmed, then,â Kaytoo said.
Cassian rose to his feet, reholstered his blaster. âShall we go?â
âThat would be the idea,â Kay said, and soon they were off, streaking through hyperspace, no more tears in his eyesâonly starlines.
Based off this quote from the Rogue One Novelization by Alexander Freed:
âOn Jenoport, [K2SO] had found Cassian staring at his blaster with tears on his face. K-2 had volunteered for a memory wipe in case Cassianâs âcontinued dignity and service demanded it.â

Sooooo
Iâve done a thing. A fic thing. More specifically, a sniperpilot Regency AU. Itâs NOWHERE even close to done, but I wanted to get chapter 1 up in time for the free day of Cassian Week. My hope, aside from sharing new original content, is that thisâll push me to have more done than I have in time for Bodhicassian week. So anyway, I hope you enjoy part 1: Here on AO3
Oh! Hereâs a summary for those of you who like such things. :)Â
It is a truth, universally acknowledged, that a man, recently come into a large fortune, must be in want of a wife. Or a smoking hot boyfriend. â Jane Austen, probably
In which Captain Cassian Andor, formerly of His Majestyâs Army, is charged with the conflicting assignments of both befriending and discovering the secrets of one, Mr. Bodhi (Dameron) Rook, long-lost grandson and recently restored heir to the venerable Commodore Rook and his impressive fortune.
Characters, rating and tags to be updated with each new chapter.
the dark of night
a long, long time ago when cassian met bodhi (part of the constellations series)
also for @cassianweekâ - May 21: Free Day
(fyi: no lies was inspired by the line about a crush on bamayar, the dark of night is inspired by the line about a first kiss. I like to think theyâre two different âwe met beforeâ situations that happen in two diff canon-compliant universes.)Â
word count: 1.2k
âJor!â
Cassian turns, trepidation settling in his gut as he recognizes the nickname.Â
âBodhi,â he replies, as much of a acknowledgment as a bewildered exclamation. âWhat are you doing here so late?â
âComing back from a small⌠uh⌠party,â Bodhi shuffles towards him, a sly and unusually bold and careless grin creeping across his face.Â
âYouâve been drinking.â His voice is flat but Cassianâs eyes are wide. Not that drinking was anything new among the recruits (despite regulations), but Cassian knew Bodhi didnât have the taste for it.Â
Bodhiâs eyebrows narrow. âNo, I havenât. You know I donât.â
âAlright.â He could, using his upper-year tutor status, disrupt their gathering and knock some sense into the students - never sneak alcohol into someoneâs drink ever again - but he didnât want to draw any more attention than he needed to. Not when his mission was almost over, not when he was this close to leaving.Â
In fact, he was working on his quiet escape, when Bodhi had disrupted his line of thought.
Like that wasnât anything new.Â
The sloppy grin returns to Bodhiâs face. Maybe he isnât drunk, Cassian thinks. The night brings a sense of bravery, the empty hallways a sense of security. It was why heâd been idly walking around the building to think of a plan.Â
But nobody was truly free of the Empireâs scrutinizing gaze, especially in an Imperial Academy of all places. Even a less reputable one, lax enough that rebels could sneak in undetected.Â
âSo what are you up to?âÂ
âCanât sleep.â It was true, after all. Cassian could never sleep on infiltration missions, the stench of Imperial-quality sterilizing chemicals and the stiffness of his grey bedsheets too much to bear. Base One had its military structure, but also a sense of home. The smell of caf lingering in the air, the oil stains on pilotsâ flightsuits, the worn out spots on his military-issue jacket. Here everything was regulated to lifeless perfection.
Bodhi nods a little too knowingly, licking his lips as his eyes flicker from Cassianâs regulation-breaking hair to his slightly crumpled uniform.Â
Maybe not everything.Â
