The Question pt1
It started out as a question of if? Was it in fact possible? No one stopped to ask if it should be done. Blue Hair, why not? Birds have blue feathers; flowers have blue petals, why couldn’t people have blue hair? People were already capable of dying their hair any color under the rainbow, what about naturally occurring blue hair. Not just blue, but orange or green or fuchsia, why couldn’t we have as diverse a hair color spectrum as the plants or trees. Isolating the gene was easy. Next was the process of tricking the human body using gene therapy. Before you knew it, voila!
Salons were not as high up on the demand list of places to go anymore; instead a licensed cosmetic surgeon issued your hair treatment.Â
The Woods pt3
I fell asleep in the easy chair near the front window. I felt safer in the house. Well, I did,…until I awoke from my nap to see the front window nearly engulfed in tree branches.Â
Why was I not as panicked about this as I should be. I could hear Chotky meowing from outside the house, and creak of floorboards as vines squeezed around the house.  A window broke and a sweet fragrance drifted in. I smelled it yesterday in the house and earlier today outside. It made me think about grandma’s hugs, but not as warm, it left more of a bittersweet aftertaste in my mouth.Â
I sat down fingering the edges of the patterns left by the disappearing sunlight rays.
I should probably leave.  I should probably get in my car, drive to the city, and tell Niles exactly what our new house was like. I should…probably.
But why? There was no rush, He would be home in a few hours anyway.Â
I looked through the window at the quarter sized space of glass still visibly to the outside world. And besides, THIS was home. Â
The woods pt2
The next morning I woke up in MY new home.  I bounded down the stairs ready for a brisk walk before breakfast.    The air was clean, what I’d expect on a spring day, the woods were…I could have sworn the woods were further away from the house yesterday, it looked only twenty feet away from the house today, but I was tired last night.
Something about the woods didn’t seem as inviting as they did the day before. I stayed in the area of the field playing with my cat Chotky before hanging up some clothes.
The woods were eerily silent. There were no birds chirping, no sound of little critters scurrying, it was just odd.  And THERE! Again, I know the woods were further away from the house than that. I couldn’t see movement but I knew it was alive. It was maybe twelve feet from the house by early afternoon. There was no way Niles would believe me if I told him, better wait until he gets home and let him see for himself.
The Woods pt1
I was in love! This house was perfect, from the way it was nestled in the field, to the way the woods neatly framed the field, and thirty feet from thee house on the other side I loved it! It was hard to believe this was my new home.
By the time I got to the door I could barely contain my joy.  I turned the key and opened up the old house and was hit by a flood of smells.  The pine scented floors and woodwork, and the line dried washed linen competed with each other for my attention. There was something else too. A smell I was familiar with, I couldn’t put my finger on it but it felt right.
