Carter nodded slowly and then looked back towards the nurse as he left. He didnât move for a moment as he looked at Leo, chewing his lip. Finally, he stepped closer to the bed, though he wasnât going to be sitting. He was too keyed up for that.
He cleared his throat. âLeo?â he asked carefully. He gave a small smile. He looked better and Carter was thankful for that. âI told you that you wouldnât die,â he said jokingly. âHow are you feeling?â
Leo recognized the manâs voice right away. Finally, someone that wasnât about to poke him with god knowâs what. He snapped back into attention, trying to focus on the blurry figure before him. âYouâre still here?â He asked, unable to keep himself from smiling just a bit. His neck had been bandaged, blood staining the wrap.Â
âIâm alright. Really fuckinâ sore, b-but youâre right, I ainât dead.â Really, if it hadnât been for Carter, he likely wouldnât have made it though. âThanks for taking me here. I-I donât remember much, but I definitely remember you.â
Carter gave a half smile, giving a small laugh. âIâm still here,â he said in confirmation. âI wanted to make sure you were okay.â It hadn't even been a long time but he felt like he had to make sure Leo got through this. At least he was doing better. Without thinking, he reached forward to pat Leo's hand, giving a gentle squeeze.
He blushed a bit when he pulled his hand back, clearing his throat. "It's not a problem at all. Y-you think I would just leave you out there like that?" he asked, tilting his head with a smile. "I didn't expect you to remember me at all. You were pretty out of it."
