This was another present for a new born and I am fairly certain that this is the only toy cuttlefish they will get. Wouldn’t want to be predictable or anything. 

I think I have managed to excel myself in finding the most obscure thing to knit as welcome to the world gift for two friends of mine’s second child. In fact I had to google what it was (and how to pronounce the name). 

Here is a close up of the stitches I used to recreate the images on their invite. I was going to fill in the lettering with split stitch, but rather liked the look of just a simple outline in back stitch.

I was donated some mohair blend yarn a while back (occupation hazard of being a knitter - regular donations of leftovers from other people’s yarn stashes, not that I am complaining!) which I paired with a vintage inspired pattern on Ravelry and the final touch - some glass vintage buttons from ebay. Definitely in my top 5 of my knitwear items at the moment!

Everything is stitched, even the note paper. Definitely not just another email clogging up the inbox. 

Not that it took me that long to do all the knitting. I finished that ages ago, but I then massively procrastinated on weaving in the ends and sewing it all together. I thought banning myself from buying any more yarn and starting new projects would help chivvy myself along. It didn’t, but I got there in the end. 

This is my biggest (and most expensive) project to date. The pattern is from Woolly Thoughts, two knitters who combine the art of knitting with.....maths! Yes that’s right. Not only does this blanket brighten up my bed room and keep me warm at night, it also physical illustration of a practical use for triangular numbers. 

It sounds like a strange combination, but maths and knitting/crochet have more in common that people first think. For starters knitting and crochet patterns are a lot like coding. And one mathematician Daina Taimina used crochet to solve an age old mathematical problem (creating a workable model for hyperbolic space) that had stumped mathematicians for years. There is this amazing TED Talk that explains it all.
