Varnish : Type-Family Specimen Poster, 2015 11x17″ one-color risograph edition of 30 Varnish is a type-family based on window splash found on used car lots in Detroit, and formally investigates the veneer of the 'used car sales man' pitching a jalopy. This typeface–through installation and performance platforms–seeks to address the commercialization and the un-skilled typographic landscape in contemporary design. Is strip-mall architecture/vernacular any less valid than the hottest trending blog post?  (rendered typeface under development)

Vacancy : Type Specimen Installation, 2015 dimensions varied casted urethane plastic, casted urethane rubber, concrete, hand polished 1/4" steel, vinyl, plastic grid, car upholstery foam, 3/8" hand polished aluminum brake line, UV pigment Vacancy is a typeface based on hand lettering found on abandoned auto repair shops along Woodward Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. The typeface (based on hand lettering) was completed in FontLab, then rendered by hand (again) through automotive-culture techniques and materials in this installation. The installation serves as a 3D-type-specimen by showing Vacancy in application; on a bench, billboard, and two street signs.
