I don’t really know how to write an introduction, so… yeah, let’s just start.

Basically, this is a world where vampires exist, but they hide in the shadows and live among humans. The way George and Harold met is the same as in the books, except that here George accidentally reveals that he’s a vampire. Harold doesn’t really care, since they’re just kindergarten kids, and he’s fine with having a friend.

As the years go by, Harold starts to become more aware of how “dangerous” it might be to be friends with a vampire, mostly because of the horror movies he watches. George begins to notice that Harold gets tense when he’s around him. At some point, George has to explain things more clearly: not to trust fiction too much, and that he can only eat fruit… right?

Meanwhile, Melvin knows George isn’t a normal human. He doesn’t have proof, but he doesn’t doubt it either.

Clarifications

There are two types of vampires:

Fruit vampires: they live off the energy they get from fruit. They tend to be weaker or less agile, blend in better with humans, and usually have less pointy ears.

Blood vampires: they follow the classic vampire stereotype and feed on blood (in this world, there are blood banks where they get their food; they don’t attack people just because… some of them).

Both types can consume the other’s food, but it comes with serious consequences.

For blood vampires, it causes disorientation, a drastic decrease in their abilities, and makes them hypersensitive.

In contrast, fruit vampires become paranoid, may feel fear and guilt, and can even end up attacking others due to aggressive impulses.

Erica is a blood vampire, and George knows it. She’s always teasing him about drinking blood and about the fact that he’s a fruit vampire. George doesn’t really like her, but he tolerates her. There’s a small rivalry between the two of them. He always tries to keep her away from Harold, afraid that she might scare him—or something worse. Erica is aware of this and often jokes about it, which only makes George even more paranoid.

Harold also knows that Erica is a vampire. He figured it out by noticing how George sometimes reacted negatively around her. Eventually, he asked her about it directly, and she confessed once she realized it wouldn’t be a problem if he knew.

…There might be more vampires among them.
