"It's only because you're on the team that I'm here." No not because of J'onn's spaceship, nor because of Brainia' time travel adventure, nor because of her sister. It's ONLY because of Lena! I'm losing my mind Leigh, and those moments after the hug, the staring... I get so much serotonin and I'm still buzzing. My heart can't calm down, and I just repeat over and over again that scene 😭 ...I love this show, I've never said anything bad about this show... I'm kidding but I just feel so good 😭
Yeah it really hammers in that when push comes to shove and Kara herself is in grave danger, she knows Lena is THE one of anybody, powerful family and friends included, who she can rely on the most to be able to pull through with what’s needed to save her life and truly protect her (and sometimes the world) from mortal danger, which is ironic since Lena does so just using her genius. And bravery -- like standing in front of a kryptonite blade for her, etc.
Just like she made the comment about how she trusted Lena more than anybody IN THE GALAXY with Myriad. In. The. Galaxy.
Kara knows Alex, J’onn and the others will always have her back and do whatever it takes to save lives and do the right thing, no matter what. They’ve all proven that. But in terms of who has flat out saved Kara herself from death time and again? It’s been Lena, since as far back as Season 2 when she sacrificed Jack to save her. And Season 3 when she put herself between Kara and Mercy. And Season 3 when she built the kryptonite suit. And so on and so forth, every season since. Sometimes multiple times a season.
I don’t think anyone on the show has directly saved someone’s life as much as Kara has Lena and Lena has Kara. In this way and so many others, they really are a perfect partnership.
Benoist herself even made this element clear in that recent interview, saying the balance of “the strength and brawn and hope of Supergirl, and the brilliance and ingenuity of Lena Luthor” is what makes them so great as a team.
Someone else said it best, something along the lines of how the hero saves the world, but the hero’s soulmate saves the hero. And that’s what we've seen with Supercorp. Especially in the episode where Lena said, just like Clark did about Lois, that she couldn’t have made the choice Alex did of choosing the world over Kara. And that’s the difference between family/friends vs someone’s true love/soulmate.
