“…..” Haru gave Rin an incredulous look before turning his head aside, letting out a small huff. He had never even mentioned kissing, he had just happened to spot the mistletoe and got caught looking at it.

“Good, nice to know we agree on this.” he murmured, not really sure if he was actually glad that they agreed on that. There was still that strange feeling in his gut, telling him that maybe he would have liked Haru to insist on traditions or something like that.

     The distance from Tokyo and Australia only seemed to GROW now that Haruka knew that him and Rin were chasing the same dreams —— after all, Rin was in his mind even more so when they had been in middle school. Sometimes a few texts, or a very rare phone call, was all they did to keep in touch. Most of the time they discussed swimming and times, for if they both worked hard, they’d see each other once more at the Olympics. 

     However, Rin had called him through Skype one evening, and he was hesitant to answer at first, but when he heard Rin’s voice and saw his smiling face, Haru did not regret it at all.

     He missed him ?? Something about that made Haru glance from the screen, realizing all the sudden that while on a Skype video chat, all focus was given to the other one person. Everything else was basically ignored during the duration of the call.

    It was like when they swam together or against one another.

When he left Japan for the second time, he had known he was going to feel homesick, and miss his friends, but he had made preparations, making sure they all had his Skype contact, Australian phone number, address and every other possible way to keep in touch.

At first, he had just limited himself to texting and quick phone calls, but as the days went on, he had decided he wanted some more direct contact, and so had opted for a Skype call. And he was glad, because now he could have Haru’s attention all for himself.

Chuckling, Rin took a sip from his Cola. “Well, you can say we kinda are the group of male friends with girls names, it’s really strange. Makoto, Haruka, Rin, Nagisa and Rei. We were all on the same swim team, back in elementary school, well, apart from Rei. We swam relays together, it was a very good team. Then I went to study abroad and we… uhm, kinda lost contact.” he explained. “when I came back for the last two years of high school, Makoto, Haru and Nagisa had started the swim club at their school and Rei got in. Those were two very important years for me.”

“Heh! We are a team of girls that have surnames that pass as names. Mami Tomoe, Kyoko Sakura, Sayaka Miki….” she would had added ‘Madoka Kaname’ and ‘Homura Akemi’ too, but they didn’t existed in this dimension anymore…”The only exception is Nagisa-chan, good for her, after all somebody had to break the tradition, isn’t it?” she joked. “I guess we are all in the ‘Unusual Names Club’”

Her attention was caught when Rin mentioned the swimming team. All his friends were swimmers and they started their friendship by bonding over that sport they shared. She understood what he meant with that. She smiled.

“So Rin, how did you got interested in swimming?”

When she asked about swimming, Rin’s eyes beamed. That was something he always loved to talk about.

“Well, my father was a swimmer. He was pretty good, and dreamed of going to the Olympics one day. But, well, he had to stop to become a fisherman, to provide for his family. So, I decided to take up his dream, make it true. I’m going to become a professional swimmer, and bring our family name into the Japanese team! You know, he loved relays the most. And in these last years I could see why...” Rin trailed off, turning his can in his hands.
