[She kissed him on the cheek when she caught him coming out of the console room just as she was walking in, and when she pulled away, she gave him a wink.] Happy Valentine's!
Jack startled at the unexpected affection, before pulling her back in for a hug and kissing both her hands. "You too, dear," he said happily, "Happy Valentine's."
And then a private smile that he saved for himself as he let her go-- 'here's to hoping for many more in the future.'
Reckon I could do some savinâ from Daleks. [She confirmed this with a nod of her own, and then tossed her hair around so that she had an unblocked vision of the Doctor â so she could wink at him.] Never said I wasnât ready for battle, only need a sword. Even knights donât need to carry their armour on them all the time!
[Their mutual puffing-up made her want to laugh, it was so typical of the two of them. Instead she rolled her eyes, fond exasperation written ll over her face, and pulled on the Doctorâs hand.] All right, you two, better hurry up anâ get to the wardrobe before nothinâ fits either of ya anymore âcos your egosâve gotten so massive!
Alright then. Daleks it is. [He conceded, playing reluctance.] Goinâ need somethinâ stronger than a sword though. [He pointed out, his hand long since dropped from Roseâs shoulder, instead hanging at her side. The Doctor still firmly gripped Jack though, wanting to maintain contact but uncertain what else he could do comfortably.]Â
Yeah, got lucky with you, I did. [The Doctor intoned sarcastically. He looked over at Rose at her tug, sighing.] Alright, alright. Iâm cominâ. [They werenât too far from the wardrobe now. Few more doors and they were there. Dropping contact with both of them, he swung the door open, sweeping them inside.] Armor anâ weaponry over there. [He announced, pointing in a vague direction.] Donât kill yourself now. Anâ dresses should be over there. [The Doctor instructed, gently shoving Jack in that direction.]Â
[Jack grinned. They'd need sonic cannons, the lot of them, if they were going up against Daleks (again). Never let it be said that he was the sort of princess that couldn't defend himself from time to time (even if he liked being saved)! But he didn't bother mentioning it, instead just chuckling away at their banter, the apparent reluctance of the Doctor that didn't quite mask how much he was enjoying this, and Rose's face bright with laughter and a little bit pink to boot.]
Oi! [He grouched at the Doctor before grinning.] Don't shove the princess. You're supposed to kiss her hand and bid her a good day... or something. [He pretended to flip long hair over his shoulder-- he'd have to find a wig-- and flounced off, barely suppressing his laughter.] See if I marry you, hmph! Rose, you better have your manners in place too, mister, or I'm not marrying you either!
[She couldnât help a loud peal of laughter â Captain Princess and sword fighting and all of it, it was just too much for her. God, she loved this.] Oi! Couldâve given me more notice for the sword-fightinâ over Captain Princess, didnât bring a sword â have you got one of those stashed away in the wardrobe too? [At that point, Rose nudged Jack, grinning over at him.] Quiet, you, your suitors are talkinâ. Anâ you â [she addressed the Doctor, mock angry;] youâd better watch yourself, Iâm not givinâ up so easy!
Oh! [It was a surprise when he took their shoulders, steering them towards the corridor, but as Jack leaned up for his kiss, Rose caught the Doctorâs hand on her shoulder, grasping it firmly.] Yeah, youâre cominâ with us! Gotta find out whether thereâs a crown in there that fits that massive ego of yours, after all.
Captain Princess? Thought you were locked in a tower, owâd you become Captain a anythinâ? [And then the Doctorâs attention was turned back to Rose, though, if theyâd bothered to look, he did seem to puff up a bit at Jackâs remark. Peacock.] A good knight is always ready for battle, Rose. [He instructed seriously, throwing in a solemn nod in there.] Sword comes with the armor. [The Doctor confirmed. Looked like heâd have to find a sword of his own. Speaking of.
He had been hoping to push them off in the right direction and slip off, maybe grab a crown but otherwise remain unchanged. Seemed like he didnât have much of a choice now, with Rose dragging him along. And Jack wasnât helping matters any.] Gettinâ into character, Captain? [He smiled widely, though that evolved into a smug grin as he looked towards Rose.] Think youâre underestimatinâ my ego there.
Hey, hey, who said anything about being locked in a tower? Just 'cause I need saving doesn't mean I'm going to while away my whole life in a musty locked room. I'd go mad! [Jack snorted.] Rose, back me up here. I need saving from Daleks or something, not eternal boredom!
[The smirk he directed at the Doctor was completely unashamed, as was the full-lipped mock-pout after it.] Now, now, dear prince, don't get jealous just because I'm prettier than you. I wear my role with pride, there's nothing wrong with that. Besides, it just means the noble night will want to come get me that much quicker!
[Rose was elated at the idea â even though she knew heâd never actually do it, the Doctor with his jacket off was practically naked, anyway, for how much smaller and leaner he looked without it on. So, shameless, she let out a whistle, cut short and interrupted by giggles once he shrugged the jacket back on.] Well, so long as Iâm a knight anâ I get the girl! Wonât have to fight for the honour, will we?
[She was grinning at him, and then with a turn of her head directed that same smile at Jack, more than a little elated at the prospect of dress-up.] Youâd think, eh? Sâpose if he wonât give me a piggy-back ride in to save ya, weâll just have to give him a crown anâ hope it fits over his ears! Mr Noble Profile. [She threw a smirk back at the Doctor, the teasing audible in the laugh constantly on the edge of her words.] Can we, Doctor? Reckon Iâd like to see how Jack looks in a princess dress, wouldnât you?
[Heâd certainly gotten the reaction heâd wanted by the look of things, and smirked enough to let them know that. The Doctorâd stepped back forward in order to restore their skewed circle, though with Jack leaning on Rose it had little effect.] Leave some air for the rest of us, will you? Anâ yeah, not goinâ ta go anâ marry below my rank. Princess it is. [He leaned past Rose in order to give Jack a congratulatory pat.]
Might want to brush up on your sword fightinâ, Rose. Cos I think I should marry the fair princess. By default, betrothed since birth âas ta count for something. [The Doctor, hand still on Jackâs shoulder, grabbed Roseâs as well, steering them towards the hallway.] Shoo. On ya go, go play dress up.
That's Captain Princess to you! [Jack eased up on leaning against Rose to poke the Doctor in the chest, still occasionally giggling. His eyes glittered at the mention of a sword fight.] Oooh, now I've got two gorgeous people fighting for my hand, I am loving this. I think I've come out of this on top, haven't I?
[He barely has time to throw a wink at Rose and he's being steered away, laughing and leaning up to press a playful kiss to the Doctor's cheek.] We're dressing you up too, don't you forget! I can't have my betrothed looking shabby, after all. For all the bunch of apes we might be, at least we've got a sense of style~!

[One look at the Captainâs latest outfit and:]
Sorry, goinâ âave ta ban ya from the wardrobe. Repeated offense, dressinâ ridiculously. [Says the man who once seriously considered walking around in a clown outfit full time.]
Aww, Doc, but I couldn't resist!
I found a lamp to go with the Aladdin look and everything! [He pouted at the other man.] Is it at least better than the one I had on last week? Besides, what's the point of keeping all this in your wardrobe if someone won't make use of it?
He almost leaped out of his skin in surprise. The truth was he couldnât sleep well, not anymore. Not since heâd first met the Doctor. But that wasnât something he ever planned on sharing with anyone so instead he wracked his brain for a believable lie.
"Had tâ go to thâ toilet, couldnât fall back asleep after." Mickey grinned back. "Whyâre you up, then, Captain Cheesecake?"
Jack shrugged. "Same old. Sleep doesn't like me, I don't like her. Dunno why sleep's a lady, but it'll have to be the only one I can't charm." He rolled his neck and put an arm around the top of Mickey's shoulders, halfway between threatening a headlock and a friendly hug.
"Wanna go grab some breakfast before the kids wake up?" He was referring to the Doctor and Rose, of course. "Heaven knows where they get all that energy, but I could do with some coffee. You look like you might need a cuppa too."
OH NO I'm having another character analysis moment.
gif 1: Jack is a Captain, or was, and everything about his stance right now, the way he rattles off what's going on with technical terms and all, is tribute to that. Once upon a time, Jack was in a position where he gave orders, and he was comfortable with it, but that doesn't mean he was always happy about it. He's more than aware that he's gotten people killed in the past, and that's not something he can afford with present company. And the Doctor... Nine's looking at him with concern. That scrunch of the brow is not distaste, it's worry, because this is the side of Jack he doesn't get to see often and he doesn't like what he can see going on in the other man's head.
gif 2: As soon as he says "Doctor", he remembers where he is. This isn't the army, this is saving the world with his friends. His expression loosens up, and he's putting the person he thinks is most capable (the Doctor) in the more dangerous position because he trusts that Nine can handle himself. It's a little bit of weight off his shoulders, just for the moment, but they're all going to be communicating in case things don't go as planned. Rose looks a little befuddled, but nods, Mickey looks a little scared, but he's going along with it too. Unsurprising, given that Rose isn't accustomed to them doing an organized attack plan, and Mickey's new to all of this, and frankly has some doubts about what good they'll be able to do against an alien. He doesn't trust himself, but inherently by being included in the plan, it's implied that they do trust him.
gif 3: Nine's ego gets the better of him, but the question isn't just about being the "alpha dog" here. It's also taking a little of that pressure off Jack. He's not the only soldier in the room, and he won't be held accountable if things go wrong. That's a talent that Nine had in a lot of situations, making sure that any blame fell squarely on him instead of people around him. Jack doesn't recognize that just yet.
gif 4: Jack hears "who's in charge" as a challenge to his way of thinking, rather than a responsibility issue. His expression drops and hardens, there's a lift of the chin that puts him right back in the army, before that disappears too, and he's left looking more like a sullen child determined not to let people see how much that little comment hurt (and failing at it).
gif 5: And Nine sees that. He keeps up the seriousness for just a second longer, but if you compare his expression in gif 3 to this one, you can see the displeasure that built up along his brow start to drop away as soon as his head starts to turn.
gif 6: It's unlikely that the Doctor has a better idea, but even if he did, he chooses not to voice it. Instead he turns back so that they can see the serious face melt away and give Jack the approval he needs, let him know that he's being heard and appreciated. The look Rose gives him is very clearly a 'was that necessary?' but what we don't see here is the relief on Jack's face. It's little things like that which make Jack respect Nine over time that much more.

Jack hated weeks off, despite knowing that the Doctor meant well and must get tired of having him around, and he didn't even use his vortex manipulator during those times in a show of good faith-- that he wasn't running away. So he wandered instead, made an awful lot of intimate acquaintances... and right now had bumped into another other man without even noticing.
"Oh! Sorry about that." Jack grinned sheepishly. "Wasn't watching where I was going."

Andromeda had also not been particularly attentive about where she was walking, her concentration focused mainly on her own phone as she worked to pinpoint a vehicle she had placed a tracking device on earlier in the day. When the man made contact with her she fell rather hard on her backside in the attempt to not drop her phone. She winced from her position on the ground and reached up to take the hand that was offered to her.
"Thanks," she said with a frown. "Iâm fine, just wishing Iâd landed on a patch of grass rather than on the pavement."
"I am really sorry," he said sincerely. He helped the stranger to her feet, giving her a smile. "I should look where I'm going. I hope you're not hurt."
But ack, the Doctor was getting away, wasn't he? "I'd offer to make it up to you but I'm running around after someone at the moment. Leather jacket, big ears, nice behind?" Jack chuckled sheepishly. "You haven't happened to have seen him rush past, have you?
Here her eyebrows quirk, right into little v, half down and up again as her smile turns a little wrought. She is, admittedly, not entirely unamused, but by the Lord was that cheap. And she isnât. " Yeah, â She gives, in low and breathy annoyance, and then turns herself into the seat opposite him rather than the one at his side sheâd been eyeing. His comment is not, per se, an attempt to get her skirt lifted upon his bed in an hour, but sheâs unwilling to take chances. Sheâs never been loose with strangers. Sheâs simply always flung herself at any man to treat her nice, extremely eager for affection. Anyone uninvolved with, sheâd refused to get horizontal for, but any partner ( all who she genuinely adored for the positive attention given, whether they turned out to honestly like her or not ) needed only push and she would lay, even when in no real mood to. After Lance, she learned. After Lance, she grew more wary. After Lance, she began thinking nobody would come to truly like her, and a man that harbored her no love was not one sheâd spread her legs for. " Itâs a lunch cafĂŠ, sunshine. I donât think they do dessert. â
"Oh, alright, I've gone too far," he backs down easily. "Sorry, sorry."
Par for the course, he supposed, flirt too hard, forget what century you're in. This is, in a nutshell, the reason why he keeps all his flirting with Rose and the Doctor light-hearted and barely skimming the surface of what his mind thinks up. Some people aren't worth scaring away. Then again, he doesn't know Donna that well yet-- doesn't know if he ever will. Odds are, he'll be off to stars-know-where again in a few hours when the TARDIS is refueled, and that makes him just a little wistful.
"No cookie for me. Ah, but that the cafĂŠ might have have. Decent enough replacement for dessert, especially if you're on the go as often as I am."
