Blackbeard's First Mate

“We could use yers instead,” she countered, scowling but with a glint of pride and amusement in her eyes. She was going to be as snarky or angry as she likes without feeling guilty. After all, he’s not playing nice, either.

“Really? because that’s not what it fuckin looks like from here. You curled up like some little prissy wench, whimperin’ over being scorned by her bleedin heart lover”  He tells it like it is for better for worse.   “ I can put up with a lot, Edward, but you gotta get get over it.  It’s been weeks.”

the  corners  of  the  captain’s  lips  twitched  slightly,  brows  furrowing, features  twisting  into  a  scowl  as  he  glared  daggers  at  his  first  mate.  every  instinct  in  his  body  was  screaming  at  edward  to  yell  back  —  to  deny  those  accusations  and  put  izzy  in  his  place  for  challenging  his  captain.

but  there  was  nothing  to  defend  himself  with.  because  izzy  was  right.

he  was  right.

“IF that’ll get that little twat, Bonnet, out of my hair. Yeah.. I’d like to bargain.”

Izzy grunts in annoyance. He has trouble here admitting what’s actually wrong so what Cutler gets is an unsure. “ He’s done… something to my boss’s  brain. It’s fucking sad. Just get rid of Bonnet. He has a way of weaseling people onto his side.   ”

" It's not your back 'm worried for. " he leaves it at that. Hands up. He wasnt actually trying to start a fight. He wasn't thinking solely about himself on this either. He did not like the changes he saw in Ed when he was around Stede.

The literal first thing Lestat felt when he woke up was a jolt of anger and fear through his bond with James. It was like a knife to the chest it hurt so strongly and he almost stumbled when he stood up from the force of the outside emotions. Lestat felt his own rage slowly building as he realized his beloved James was being held prisoner somewhere.

He couldn’t let that stand.

The second he got a good meal into him, Lestat followed the pull of their bond across the oceans in seconds, flying faster than he ever thought he could. Soon enough, a large ship appeared on the horizon, one flying a black flag with a man and a spear on it. With his vampire eyes, he could see James tied to the mast with a gag in his mouth from all the way up in the sky and he growled at the sight.

He landed on deck in seconds, rushing to James’s side and looking him up and down.

“Mon Cherie? Mon Dieu, what have they done to you?” Lestat was about to start undoing the literal CHAINS they had James wrapped in, but he hissed in pain the second he touched them. Silver. The fucking chains had silver in them somehow. Lestat clenched his fists when he pulled away, trying to think of a way to get James freed when he heard James mumbling something against the gag and felt a knife pressing into his cheek shortly after.

“I’d suggest you move your knife if you wish to keep your hand, Monsieur.” Lestat snarled, turning to look at the man threatening him. There stood a short dark haired man with anger in his eyes, staring him down like he had nothing to lose.

" A-aye Blackbeard. W-whatever you want" is squeaked out.  He couldn't believe it, Those hands were actually fucking on him.    And he was here for it.   He had been a good boy for so long. He's staring at the Captain's lips now, how he wants them but  isnt the type , so he will continue to stare until he's released.

" I'll let the twat go. " he breathed out, though was not gonna be the one to pull away first.

With his vampire eyes, he could see James tied to the mast with a gag in his mouth from all the way up in the sky and he growled at the sight.

Oh, Izzy melted for that touch.  His grasp curling around 'Blackbeards' wrapping around his throat.  Fuuuuuck if that doesnt get hoist his sails.   A breathless inhale of air from the brush over his skin,  breath in his ear. Responding to those words no different than James would have, with a near moan

" T-thats more like it.  Yeah, ok. I got no problems with that. The English dog goes overboard. "

Izzy swallowed around that hand, reaching out to touch his Captain's face.  He lives for these moments.

he looks at edward with this look in his eyes, he is PLEADING with him, SCREAMING with his eyes like "you can't let this happen edward. you cannot possibly let this happen"

It's pure and utter disbelief. Not because he lost the duel, that was unfortunate and he didn't expect it, but it's the fact that ed is not intervening at all. No, he just gives izzy a look like "sorry mate, you did that to yourself" and it breaks his damn heart

Like you cannot tell me this isn't a look of pure heartbreak that his captain would just let him get banished, for a duel he clearly won even, against a man who edward said he wanted to get rid of.

It's betrayal, disbelief, heartbreak, pain.

And yet, he has to accept his fate. How would it make him look if he turned back now? Ed was the only one who could have said something. And he didn't.

He didn't say anything, so izzy had to leave. And I'm sure he didn't leave thinking about how that hurt, he probably left thinking about how he can get rid of stede. Who so clearly makes ed worse, right? Right??

He was momentarily taken off guard from that. Little moments where he spoke softer to Edward when Blackbeard was riled. But it was that which he wanted, to reach his boss and rip him back from that pathetic twat’s grip.  

“Thought part of being your first mate is to be there to keep your head on straight. ”  He reminded him. “ You lost your head is all.  ”  He’s not gonna drop it,  keep pawing at it until the other understands how important this is for them.

          ❝  I  haven’t  lost  anything.  ❞  the  captain  growled  in  response.  but  it  was  a  blatant  lie,  one  of   a   man  in  denial.  arguably,  edward  had  lost  everything.  he’d  lost  his  edge,  lost  who  he  used  to  be  —  the  vicious,  feared  blackbeard  persona  —  instead,  he  was  a  snivelling,  emotional  mess,  wallowing  in  his  own  sadness.  he’d  lost  his  drive,  his  motivation,  and  nothing  inspired  him  like  it  used  to.  there  was  no  sense  of  adventure,  no  lust  for  life  anymore.

and,  arguably  worst  of  all,  he’d  lost  stede.

Izzy wants nothing more than to drive his point home to Ed,  but as he refused certain inalienable truths about himself, further explanation was thus utterly impossible.  But it didn't stop him from being a constant nag though , because he didn't know how else to get himself across to the man before him.

He's way out of his comfort zone.

He stared at his captain like he just said something utterly ridiculous .   “ m’ not a fucking idiot,  you spend more time laughing it up with him than actually putting anything we’ve planned into action.  When was the last time you even maimed anyone? Maybe you’re just losing your touch ‘round the fop..”

         Eyes roll when the man puts up another argument . That’s all it was with him these days . Frankly, Edward would be entirely fed up with it had the other not always had his best interests in hand . Deep down he knows that Izzy is there for his captain , seeking out what’s best for him and the ship ( mostly what the best outcome for Izzy would be , and that’s having Blackbeard to serve ) .

The physical hard clasp, however, did pull that confused, then content little smile on his face.  The attention of his captain he apparently needed, even if he didnt admit that because Izzy hands needed no one.

Israel  Hands, however, couldn't take his eyes off the man infront of him. No longer the annoying fop of a blonde come to rescue the admiral they'd captured, but his captain.  The man he had followed and put up with his constant erratic moods.   The man who could beat him within an inch of his life and he'd come asking for more.
