regarding my last post: i get people wanting to support black art and artists but at the same time idk how comfortable I feel marketing and selling art of a black character calling himself a nigga hung up in the homes of white people regardless if they're performative or not about my struggles. I could easily sell prints of that drawing because it's my most popular work but at the same time I am disturbed and bothered over like, the idea of art celebrating my blackness and triumph over ongoing white supremacy to be seen in consumerist eyes by non black people.

I wanted to piggyback off of this—I think non-black/white people have this weird thing with consuming our media. “They love our rhythm, but they hate our blues” if you will. Honestly, gatekeep and don’t feel bad about it. It’s totally normal to want other people that look JUST like you to see your work and see themselves in it, don’t feel bad for actively wanting to cultivate a black space.

★ Saw this challenge a bit ago and it immediately caught my interest; happy I took the time to actually do it ^^

⛆ Everybody say hi to my Rain That Rattles on Stones—my kitty cat trying their best to find her place in the world and not lose it.

⛆ Because I let this challenge sit for a hot minute, I had a lot of time to reflect on the name selections that I had chosen before finalizing. I initially was leaning more fire/striking names (I’ve always particularly love those), but I think those aren’t very fitting for me? While headstrong and eccentric, water is something that’s deeply relaxing and I resonate with. I also enjoyed the “rattle on stones” part of the name since it’s still striking AND paints a very interesting mental image I enjoy :0
