In fairness Jess famously is off the pitch usually as fast as she can manage it. It got England into some hot water during the world cup cos when they got into the final they posted a group shot of the team and the staff where she and LJ (the only two Black players on the team) weren't in it. It was The picture that went on the cover of magazines and newspapers to shout about the team and it was only the white players. LJ had had a red card so wasn't allowed on the pitch but Jess was one of the best players on the team in that tournament and had had some major moments in that Australia game.

My crazy and totally baseless conspiracy is that the more ex Chelsea players Gotham signs the less likely AKB & Jess will want to stay there lmao. They are already missing from the group pictures they took after the Challenge Cup win (they probably just had to do doping or whatever). It's not gonna be nice to watch them try to fill in another goalkeeper who's supposed to play the way AKB does for them and it just not working if AKB decides she rather play in Germany again to be closer to family. I'm one of those people who watches Gotham and does not understand how their defense is rated soo highly with the chances they give up. There is an crazy amount of luck and being bailed out by the keeper going on and I'm not just talking about saves specifically here with the keeper. I personally am not so high on their defensive capabilities but think their counter press is just really really good so they win back the ball very high. If a team can play through the press they are 1v1 with only a CB left or even just the keeper way too easily though and when facing clinical finishers they get exposed quickly. See Mexico

I also think mccaskill can go (not a fa though so probs more difficult??). Sommer is a fa this year, lampson - i dont think either have earned an extension? Could save some from their contracts. Midge is a fa as is freeman, but i think both are probably worth it? Midge is a serviceable back up rb.

AKB is a bit less crazy with Germany because while they play a high line as well it's not as aggressive as Gothams 😅 But they also are notably worse especially in possesion without her. Honestly feel like Gothams offensive struggles are partly due to that high line being so extreme that they don't have enough space to actually create dangerous enough chances anymore because the pitch is squeezed so much. They don't seem to want to change their style much which is fine but they definitely need more clinical finishing. My question is whether Kerr is a clinical enough finisher. Esther sadly isn't. I'm also a bit confused why Gotham still has four goalkeepers. CONCACAF is done for this year and so far nobody has left. They mostly have solely Hogan on the bench as well at the moment. If they think Teagan Wy as a better fit for their style than Ryan Campbell they should free up a roster spot and at least sign a cheap defender just to actually have one if injuries hit. It's not like they are playing any other goalkeeper if AKB is available

Now that Gotham is Chelsea 2.0, but AKB absolutely did not play like this at Chelsea, do you think Jess is having to pre warn Sam and Guro, like "remember when Ann was a vaguely sane goalkeeper who broadly stayed in her box and just occasionally opted out of the laws of physics? Right well, forget about that. She's been let loose and she will be beside you in the box if you give her half a chance"

I'm fine with the Kerr signing because I think she’s gonna be a more consistent goalscorer than Esther. Not excited but I guess it's gonna help the lack of goals. What I'm a bit iffy about is signing Kerr through 2030 and potentially giving Sonnett a HIP contract (saw some stuff online). Love Sonnett but she's not gonna be worth a HIP contract if they don’t have enough money left to keep other players around for example Berger, Carter or (finally healthy!) Freeman, especially Berger tbh. I also hope they are paying Howell enough because she's been so good for them. I just don't see how they are gonna be able to keep Rose either or is she on the way out? Signing Kerr would make more sense if they buy out Esther and free cap space that way. It's all a mystery to me

Poor Jess, damned by her own quality to be in her second best position (at least at RB she's less likely to get a concussion from her own partner I guess? 😂)
