How likely is it that part of the influence on Gotham to keep it Sonnett/Tierna is the potential for that to be the starting USWNT cb pairing? Girma does not seem to have settled well at Chelsea (bc she can’t seem to stay healthy), and as shocking as it is, i think there’s a chance she’s not a starter for the USWNT if she can’t get consistent minutes, and then Sonnett and Tierna are up. A national team can pairing that also plays together at club would be invaluable (if the pair of them can figure out how to do it better).

Or just commit to your actually effective cb partnerships???? Like sorry but the resources are there, carter as cb has been far more effective, neither sonnett nor davidson have outplayed her in that position this year, and yet shes been put back to ob despite it weakening what made the defense so strong. I'm guessing that the fact that theyre not getting a defender is an indication that shes re-signing next year? Ive seen Jess take 1 penalty in her career and it was an absolute rocket. 5 pen against lyon in the uwcl quarter final and I remember a podcast after was like where has she been hiding that???? And then I remembered that she lives with akb so is probably the most experienced penalty taker in the world purely because im pretty sure if akb is sad shes stuck taking them against her to cheer her up 😂 she was also next in line to take it for england at the euros final if Kelly's pen didn't win it (which, all things considered, feels not great but an endorsement of her pen ability at least)
