Elizabeth could barely contain her own embarrassment when he looked away. Her eyes continued to wander until they were both spared by Sebastian’s arrival. Learning that he would escort them brought great relief to Elizabeth. After all, Sebastian would never let anything happen to them, she couldn’t think of anyone more suitable to take care of them.
When finally she turned back to face Ciel, Lizzie was elated to see that he’d still hold her hand. Reaching out to slide her fingers between the gaps of his own, she then squeezed his hand lovingly. The excitement had returned to the young lady, and nothing was going to stop her from enjoying her time with Ciel. After all, she would finally get to show her guests how much she and Ciel had grown. How their love was blossoming from the seeds of a frail flower into that of a brilliant garden.
With each day that passed, the garden of their love gave birth to yet another flower. Soon it would rival even the Phantomhive garden, of that she was certain.
Just as she’d anticipated, the carriage of Sebastian’s choice was beautiful. But then, Elizabeth had always loved carriages. They were so elegant and pretty, and they would shield them from rain. They really were perfect. Climbing into the carriage of her own accord, she chose to sit as close to Ciel as was humanely possible, pressing her side directly against his own. While normally she’d avoid doing so, not wishing to push him further, Elizabeth was on an emotional high.
"During my ride here, I noticed the boats were out on the lake, Lizzie’s gaze was trained on the window, her eyes wide with delight, "I so wished we could ride a boat together, it’s rare for the sun to be out for so long. We never get to visit the lake because of the constant rain."
The longing in her eyes only thickened the longer she gazed beyond the window, deep into her mind. She could see them vividly, the couples riding together. Laughing together. It was truly a romantic gesture, she had to wonder if Ciel would ever take her out like that. On a date. She’d be late to her own Mother’s party if it meant spending more time alone with him.
Ciel, too, stepped onto the carriage, and waited until Sebastian had closed the door before glancing at his fiancée. When she spoke like that, it was difficult to deny her--but at the same time, he was far too busy to make promises for such leisure. (But that was why he never reacted very well when Elizabeth decided to visit him, often without sending a message first. She took up far too much of his time without him noticing it; a day would go by in the blink of an eye, and before Ciel knew it, it'd be nighttime and he would have made little progress in any field of work. She was... fun. She was warm. She was everything that he'd been trying to refrain from because he had a different set of priorities, but just by being herself, Elizabeth Midford always managed to remind Ciel that he was human--and that being human meant sometimes giving way to the heart's desires.)
"Didn't your brother want to take you out on a boat for your birthday last year?"
...Then again, what didn't Edward want to do with his sister?
