Don't want to get overly personal about my absence and lack of posts, but also as form of self expression, I'd like to talk about my 2022. Being part of this community helped me a lot to regain some semblance of happiness while I was able to post, but due to problems in my own relationship, me getting a new job (that I'm very grateful for but has made me utterly exhausted) and my own mental health issues, I simply froze and was unable to do the things I enjoyed.

Much to Kabuto’s displeasure, Obito takes the woman away from the hideout. He made sure to put her in a trance with his Mangekyo, giving him some extra time to think about his next move.

Why did he do this? Why did he let himself be taken over by some childish instinct?

He knows this could ruin all his work, everything he has dedicated himself to these last few decades. The Moon’s eye plan, the reason he killed his old self, the reason he became a shell of a man, a person without name and face.

Obito lifts her limp body and carries her out of the cave, jumping from tree to tree, entering the denser part of the dark forest that surrounds their base.

The seal on his heart makes his whole body become tense, his throat tightens. He’s running out of options. This woman is a Konoha shinobi, trained relentlessly on combat and scouting, she obviously picked up sufficient signs to know the general location of the hideout. She saw Kabuto, she saw Obito’s mask and Akatsuki cloak. She knows enough to report it all to her superiors and bring the whole operation crashing down.

Bringing her to their side is out question, she remained loyal to her village until her own limit and planned to die to protect it. She cursed at this damned world yet at the same side did not back away from her own beliefs. Obito struggles to comprehend that as he places her unconscious body in a small clearing.  

He still breathes with difficulty, so he tries to contain himself. He closes his only eye and concentrates on regulating the airflow in and out of his lungs. Once he is able to control his senses better, he sits down beside her, the sound of his loud exhale breaking the predominant silence of the woods.

She lays peacefully on top of a bed of dried leaves and dirt, her green shinobi uniform filled with dried bloodstains, as well as her delicate hands, ruined by the filth of her partner’s red insides. Obito raises his gaze to her face, also tainted by pain despite her tranquil expression: dirt and dried tears mark soft skin. The type of macabre thing Obito is all too used to witness in his life.

Obito looks at his own hands, covered by the thick gloves he always wears to protect himself of feeling the touch of those he has to hurt. To prevent himself from remembering the cold touch he felt the last time he touched someone.

There’s not a single night where he isn’t tormented by how Rin felt when he found her dead amidst a river of blood. How he cupped her face into his hands and shook her body in hopes she would wake up. She never did.

Obito takes one of his gloves off. The Uchiha reaches out to the Konoha shinobi, touching the tip of his fingers onto her right cheek. He retreats his hands at the touch, taken aback by the sensation. Warm, she feels warm.

He feels a sense of rage take over him. Obito cursed this world back then, much as the woman who lays in front of him just did. He did not have a second chance; he had no one to help him, only hatred. She shall not live with this curse. She has to have a second chance.

As if it had life on its own, his pitch-black eye twists into the Mangekyo Sharingan. Without any other option, Obito wakes up the woman and uses his kekkei genkai to alter her memories. She will forget everything that happened inside that hideout, her partner’s destiny and all the affliction she felt. She is coming home, like he never did.

Y/N opens her eyes sluggishly, her small encampment comes into view: everything has been torn apart and there is no sign of Souta anywhere. Her head rumbles with pain, it comes in waves and deposits itself behind her eyes.

She fumbles around, trying to understand what might have happened here, looking for her teammate. Their tent has been ripped into shreds and the clearing is littered with signs of a struggle. Smugglers? No, despite the mess, all their belongings seem to still be here. She finds her medical pouch laying on the ground covered in dirt. She checks herself for wounds, only now realizing the state of her clothes and the absence of her own bandana.

The shinobi cannot help but scream at the sight: dried blood covers every inch of it, including her hands. She has no visible injuries or pain besides her own headache, meaning that this blood does not belong to her.

Souta. Where is he?

Her chest tightens as she looks for him on the surrounding area, but to no use. His tracks disappear once she comes closer to the trees, as if he never existed. She tries to force herself to remember but nothing comes up.

Tears prickle her skin as she worries about the worst, as she thinks of how useless of a shinobi she is if she could not help a comrade in danger. She looks over every detail again and again, in hopes of finding any sort of signal. No luck.

Rage begins to take over her, consuming her entirely. She screams once more, her distressed vocal chords failing to produce any sign. Her insides burn brightly, exploding into multiple punches into the ground as adrenaline takes over any rationality she had.

Y/N cannot help but feel frustrated at her own incapability. Her only duty as a medical nin was to protect her teammate and she failed miserably. How can she be of use to the village like that? How can she be of use to the will of fire like this? Y/N stops, allowing the adrenaline rush to cease. She needs to return to the village, only a scout squad can help her search for him now, she is useless otherwise that.
