Help my grandparents find safe and sanitary housing please
Hello, my name is Leisha and I’m trying to raise enough funds to be able to move my grandparents out of the very unsafe and unsanitary situation they are in. My mother can barely afford to pay our rent and other bills and I am currently unemployed so we can’t do it on our own.
My grandparents live in another country, and up until December they lived in a small flat with my uncle, one my mom helped pay the monthly rent of while my grandparents and uncle covered the rest equally. However, come December my uncle got married and through an unclear series of events (we haven’t been able to hear from my uncle, only from my grandparents. But he has a history of taking some of the money my mom used to send monthly) ended up kicking my grandparents out and moving his wife and her parents in. My grandparents were temporarily taken in by family acquaintances and they were the ones who helped them get in contact with my mother because they both could not use phones (they are illiterate) and whenever my mom would try to talk to them by calling my uncle as she usually does he would not answer.
They were left with zero money and belongings and my grandpas retirement checks still get sent to where my uncle lives because he needs proof of new residency to be able to change addresses, and since my uncle is the one who usually cashed them for him, we’re pretty sure he has taken them. They’ve tried to go back to the apprt multiple times but my uncle has threatened to call the cops on them and they were verbally abused by him, his wife and her parents. They now live with another elderly couple and their daughter in a very rundown house and pay about 100 dollars a month, the house is one floor and it is downright nasty and unsanitary with frequent power and water outages. It’s also been hell to navigate and my grandpa has suffered three falls because he has weak knees and the toilet is a traditional one that has no seat so he has to squat.
We have been planning to save up to move them out in a couple of months or so but its’ become an urgent situation and we simply can’t come up with money for the needed security deposit as well as the advance in rent being asked for since we can barely afford to pay our own bills and anything we can spare is sent so they can get groceries and refill their important meds. My grandpa can’t get his retirement checks still or any type of social aid because they are staying in the house « paperless » and there are no legal contracts or papers that prove they rent and live there and you need an address to be able to do anything.
What we need:
Our priority is to move them out of the housing situation they are in, and maybe even help the other elderly couple and their daughter who lives with them. We also want to pay for doctors visits for both of them (especially my grandpa because of the falls he endured) and make sure their medication is refilled. Optional: money for a plane ticket so either my mom or I can visit and see them (if my mom can manage time off and if travel restrictions allow it)

Hi, so far we were able to raise a hundred US dollars on the dot from paypal donations (THANK YOU SO MUCH) and sent it for them to refill some of their medications. We’ve been calculating and estimating, and we need nearly 1500 US Dollars to be able to relocate them since they have no proven source of income, so every single renter requires both a security deposit from them and minimum three months of rent paid at once in advance.
