“Ohhh, it’s perfect!” Cecil enthused. “They’re real little artists, aren’t they? I’ll put this up on the fridge. Come in, come in…” He opened the door and ushered Eugene inside. “I’m sorry it’s such a frightful mess… We’re actually thinking about getting a new place, but for now it’s cramped quarters.” He stepped carefully over one of Lentil’s toys, a small remote-controlled tank.

“I-I guess it is!” He gasped in surprise. “Wow, our first date!” he looked happy, then suddenly groaned in despair. “I-I-I didn’t bring any flowers or chocolate!! I should have worn a suit!”

“I know so.” he whispered comfortingly. “Heck, I’m not blind. I see the way he looks at you. You’re his treasure, right?”

“Yeah. Y-yeah! I am… I am.” Julian sighs and smiles slightly. “You’re right, I’m his treasure. And I didn’t ruin that. And he still loves me, I-I’m sure.”

“Me too, Ju-ju.” he smiled and kissed his forehead, happy to see a smile on his face. “So...that aside, how’s it feel to be a biomachine?”

“And what exactly counts as tiny?” Cleo drawled, briefly wondering how she agreed to this again. “Because technically speaking, isn’t nearly everyone smaller than you?”

“I-it’s good to be back! Um, I heard you are human and also the mayor??” he runs a hand through his hair and stepped forward, inspecting him cautiously. Where?? Are his wings??

“If this is the Julian I know, then he definitely understands the gravity of this situation. But if he doesn’t, and he If he doesn’t stop..” Eugene’s voice went hollow, cold. “Then I’ll stop him. And you won’t have to see him again.” Eugene’s mouth was a determined frown, his face cold by guarded. He owed it to Julian to stop him. He would want Julian to do the same if he was acting that way.

Keith shuddered and glanced at Eugene. “Okay,” he muttered and looked at the ground. “Thanks. I don’t know if he’s the man you know, though. I don’t know how much the biomachine thing is changing him.”

Eugene gave a gentle shrug. “Kevin did the biomachine thing for a little while, but he was exactly the same! I think everything should be okay.”

Julian looks up, eyes wide and hopeful. “Do you… do you really think so?” he asks quietly, fingers latching onto the front of Eugene’s shirt like a helpless child.

“I know so.” he whispered comfortingly. “Heck, I’m not blind. I see the way he looks at you. You’re his treasure, right?”
