He called her little bird again and at the exact same time, he acknowledged the pain and suffering she had gone through, without talking down to her about it. He allowed the guilt and anguish he’d been carrying around for years over her to finally show through, for her and only her. The sorrow in his eyes when he mentioned her suffering was heart wrenching. And when she told him how she dispatched the man who violated and tortured her, he smiled and looked at her like she was a winter sunrise and he’d never seen anything so breathtaking and awe-inspiring. He looked at her like no one in the world could ever compare to her, not for him. Not ever.
