Quick thing i thought of before going to bed
The character behind Hollow and Ghost is so,,, interesting to me its insane
In my mind, the vessels as a whole are kinda like androids from DBH, but with waaay less sense of self and such (also just using this as a comparison, they’re very different still). They have a goal set in mind, and they will work to get to that goal. For androids, this would be care for an elderly patient, solve crimes, do chores, etc. For the vessels this was much different. Stop the infection.
While still relating back to DBH, Hollow would be a prime, subtle example of a ‘deviated’ vessel. They grew emotions inside them, but despite that they still strode to do their one task. Unlike deviants, they keep that instruction. But it’s plagued by emotions. Now for Hollow the emotions wouldn’t come out as radically as deviants but its still there, causing them to succumb to the infection as much as they did.
Hollow is good. Their instruction was to stop the infection, and they did so. But under the Pale King’s influence and the current state of Hallownest, it was never implied they harmed anyone. In the first place, they’d likely be kept away from people, but not because they’re a danger. They were apart of the plan, to seal away the Radiance, to control it. And this was a peaceful plan for the bugs of Hallownest (besides… hollow and the dreamers in a way, but thats a different can of worms), not to be a cause for any violence. The only reason they fought Ghost is because the infection took over. (also ‘what about the pure vessel fight’ I think that was training for them! And also since the fight doesnt actually happen in a way [by being in the pantheons & a dream realm] i’m not gonna think too hard about it)
Ghost, on the other hand, is morally grey. They have that same set of instructions that likely every vessel does. Stop the infection. But in the state of Hallownest by the time they arrive, and no influence from others (majorly, i know some are still important like quirrel and hornet) about how to achieve this goal. So they slaughter the bugs of Hallownest. Infected or not, if they were an obstacle, they were taken down. Now, why i say morally grey is that i think they still have a personality. Emotion, maybe. But a personality in the sense of how they act around other sapient bugs, or act in general. They’re blind to what is unconventional (ie. grabbing geo out of their body like in the one little comic i drew, the respawn system if you make that canon, ect) and act like its silly that the others don’t know that, not the other way around. They’re protective of friends, they care for their friends. But i wouldn’t say anything is a feeling, per se, more of just an instinct that grows over time. They’re not acting as in lying, just acting as if it was nature.
Idk just a thought i wanted to get out! I love how they both contrast eachother and the usual game archetype, and the same archetype that on a first play through i would still think is acurate. Of the final boss (ignoring the radiance atm) being a big bad evil causing the problems of the whole game (before true ending could be seen that Hollow is causing the infection), and the MC comes in to save the day. With understanding them better, its more the other way around in a sense.
As much as i love Ghost’s character i will still be drawing them as a silly goober than you very much
