Climb the Wedge at Humbug Spires Wilderness Study Area in Montana!
The Humbug Spires Wilderness Study Area is a 11,175-acre roadless area, located 26 miles south of Butte, Montana. Impressive granite outcroppings, part of the Boulder Batholith, rise 300-600 feet and provide outstanding rockclimbing opportunities. A three-mile trail starts at the parking area and winds along the creek through an old-growth forest, and then climbs a ridge and eventually reaches the “Wedge,“ one of the more prominent spires. From the trail, kids can watch climbers close up as they scale the cliffs. #GOWILDforEveryKid

Travel historic trails with #mypubliclandsroadtrip in BLM Wyoming!
During the 1800s, the area now known as Wyoming became the focal point for western expansion. The discovery of the South Pass route over the Rocky Mountains was the primary reason for the location of the Oregon, Mormon Pioneer, California, and Pony Express historic trails in Wyoming.
This broad pass - the highest point on the trail, located at the summit of an almost imperceptible approach to the Continental Divide - was the key to the entire trail system. Every emigrant wagon train and handcart company that went westward rolled through this pass.
Today, BLM-administered public lands in Wyoming are one of the few remaining locations where these national historic trails can be experienced in a setting relatively unchanged from the 1800s. In Wyoming, 60 percent (over 340 miles) of the Oregon, California, Mormon Pioneer and Pony Express Trails fall under BLM stewardship, with a management plan that protects the setting, nature, and purposes of this “National Trails Management Corridor.” CLICK HERE to plan a trip to these historic trails.

It’s Iditarod time again, Tumblrs. This weekend, mushers and their teams gathered in Anchorage, Alaska, for the ceremonial start of the 43rd Iditarod Sled Dog Race.
The BLM serves as the lead Federal administrator of the Iditarod National Historic Trail, a beautiful trail system that that ties modern-day public lands visitors to the nation’s history of ancient Native Alaskan villages and the American gold rush.
In Alaska, the BLM manages approximately 72 million surface acres of diverse public lands, from mountain ranges to wetlands and coastal marine environments to vast expanses of tundra. Here we bring you a selection of those landscapes by Bob Wick, Wilderness Specialist for the BLM’s National Conservation Lands.
