Like usual I'm seeing a lot of black and white takes on Jax but here's my take: (Note I will be using ONLY she/her pronouns for Jax in this post)

I saw one of the voice actors talk about while Jax's suffering didn't justify her actions, just because she made other people feel worthless and unloved doesn't mean Pomni had to make Jax feel that way in return. I see Jax's character arc and story as two things: A cautionary tale about what can happen if someone externalizes their problems rather than actually processing them, and another example of cycles of abuse.

Jax's mother was abused by her father. The father left, leaving the mother to externalize that trauma onto Jax and abuse her. In an (understandable yet misguided) attempt to defend herself, Jax lashed out at her mother, and unable to shake that trauma or truly process what happened, Jax continued that cycle of abuse with Ribbit, Ragatha, Kaufmo, and even Pomni to an extent. While Jax is responsible for her own behavior, can you be surprised she acted the way she did considering that type of behavior is ALL SHE EVER FUCKING GREW UP WITH?? THAT is what her brain was formed around, THAT is what her mind internalized as the path of least resistance!!!

But just because Jax perpetuated that cycle at her worst times doesn't mean Pomni had to perpetuate it back. Pomni forgiving Jax despite EVERYTHING and reaching out to her in her truly lowest moment, wasn't just Pomni "not caring about Gangle or what Jax did or how Jax hurt people!!!" IT WAS POMNI BREAKING THE CYCLE OF ABUSE!!!

Pomni KNEW Jax didn't just act that way for no reason, and while what she went through doesn't at ALL justify how she acted, that doesn't mean abusing or abandoning Jax in return would actually fix anything. Even Gangle and Ragatha understood that kind of response wouldn't be productive. It's why they didn't just shove Jax into the cellar, even when Caine came back. HELL IT'S WHY THEY EVENTUALLY FORGAVE CAINE!! CAUSED YEAH people who have caused harm need to show they're putting in work to make up for what they've done, but you also need to LET THEM do that work in the first place, and that sort of work isn't something you can easily chose to do when ACTIVELY IN CRISIS

Remember, you don't crack eggs. You build nests.
