Thought it'd be fun to draw over @tio-trile's Comic Con pictures of the JWCT cast.
Kenlynn endgame: How can I still think they have any chance of getting back together after THAT season?
Chaos Theory Season 3: Part 1
Don't worry I'm not blind. This season was HORRENDOUS for Kenlynn. They killed them in every way you can possibly kill a ship, then burried them, then had Kash dance on their grave.
Not only did they not interact at all this season, but they have made it clear that the plane scene was Kenji's last straw with Brooklynn, he was DONE with her. Done trying to prevent her from ruining her life after she proved one to many times that she was eager to ruin it.
He was the one to run after her to that airport and she chose to push him away again, she chose her work over him once again, she chose to go off on her own again, so now he finally does the only thing that makes sense: he lets her. He has tried too many times already, and it always ended the same, with him being heartbroken. She wants to be a solo player, then he lets her, he will not give her the opportunity to break his heart again. He's given her one last chance to choose him in front of that plane, but she jerked his hand away. He's done trying to get it back.
So why in hell do I think they are endgame? Don't think that's because I'm stupid and can't see that they absolutely ruined the heck out of them.
No, that's actually because that's more or less what I predicted would happen. Sure I didn't expect it to happen exactly in that way, (a lot of my theories were made at a time when I was convinced we would only get 3 seasons) but if you look at my theory on how I thought the show would end the essence is there.
I'm putting it here to be totally transparant: a lot of it IS wrong. The first part is hilarious to look at now.
But the second part? Though I was shook at how much they were willing to destroy the bond between the characters, I knew that Kenji was finally going to set a bondarie with Brooklynn after the plane scene. And don't get me wrong, I'm not delusional enough to tell myself that he's *pretending* not to care. He has lost the ability to care. Brooklynn has simply hurt him too much, too much for someone who was supposed to love him. He can't bring himself to go out of his way and care for her anymore when all she's done is show that she didn't care about him time and time again.
The third part isn't accurate because, as I said, at the time I thought we would only have 3 seasons, so I didn't think we would get a whole season of Kenji being done with Brooklynn as well as a more progressive and far less angsty Dinostar reunion.
But my opinion hasn't change in that already at the time I knew that Brooklynn was going to be the one to have to prove that she was worthy of Kenji. That after all she's put him through, she was finally going to be the one that would have to show that she cared.
If you look closely, their roles have been reversed. I know that it's shocking to see Kenji so easily "not caring" about her, but when we think about it that was what Brooklynn had been doing to him.
I think that season 4 will be Brooklynn's redemption arc with Kenji. You could argue that it will be with Sammy too, there will absolutely be some of that, but Sammy's reaction to Brooklynn was more than anything else a puzzle piece in her arc with both Yasmina and her family that had been going on since season 1.
Because when you look at JWCT, and it's something that one of the writers confirmed on here, everything was written at once (which is why it's so good). From the beggining they knew where these characters had started and where they would end up. Each scene is made to lead up to something.
Take Yasammy for example: Their relationship was stained at the start of the show for very understandable reasons. But then the they made up. And yk, there was that thing with Sammy and her family that was mentionned in season 1 and that carried through season 2, without us ever really getting to know why it was there. And then Yazammy breaks up seemingly because of Brook, but really it's the culmination of all these story arcs that seemed kinda random and aimless at first. Sammy still resents Yasmina for the distance she put between them, and while Yasmina thinks Sammy was in the right in the conflict with her family, she doesn't understand how Sammy could shut them out so easily. We thought they were good after season 1, they were absolutely adorable in season 2, then boom, they were actually not good. Brooklynn was merely what made them realize just how much they couldn't see eye to eye anymore. THIS IS FREAKING AWESOME WRITING.
What does that have to do with Kenlynn?
As I said, these characters are not written randomly, they have arcs that have started in season 1 and that will end in season 4.
Season 3 was the absolute death of Kenlynn, even I can't argue against that. But it's part of their arc. A lot have been set up for them, and season 4 will be where all these set up will pay off.
Kenji broke up with Brooklynn because she neglected him for her work while he was still in love with her, she died a few days later leaving him regretful and heart broken, he finds out she is alive and for a moment he forgets all his rescentment and confusion because she's alive and it overpowers everything else so he runs after her despite everything she did to him, vulnerable as ever... but she chooses to leave him again. He tried everything to get her to stay, and now he has his confirmation, it will never work.
So now we have season 3 Kenji, who is a Kenji who has finally accepted that he is done trying. It really seems like there is no come back from that, even to me this season felt like the end END. But it's not, this season is part of an arc that had started in season 1 (dare I say in camp creataceous ๐คฃ) and that will end in season 4.
But this time the roles are reversed.
I think I'm going to stop here and continue in other posts lol, but here are some points I will mention later because I can already see what some will say:
- Nothing in this season changed my opinion on Brooklynn's feelings towards Darius (on the contrary). Don't get me wrong, they are ADORABLE. But Brooklynn wasn't in love with Darius when he confessed, and she still isn't now. She loves Darius, he is her best friend. That's it.
- Nothing in this season changed my opinion on Brooklynn's feelings towards Kenji.
- I will talk more in detail about Brooklynn's story arc because many things I had predicted happened in this season
And some other things I guess
It's probably me again finding meaning where there isn't any (as always), but can we talk about the scene where Darius and Kenji enter Brooklynn's secret appartment and how it perfectly encapsulates each of their relationships with her?
Darius enters the appartment and he immediately goes into investigation mode, attempting to call Sammy then searching through Brooklynn's stuff to inquire about what she was doing. At no moment does he display any sort of emotion at being at her place, at the fact that she's not here anymore. In that he's very similar to Brooklynn (their interest in solving misteries being stronger than anything), so much so that you could argue that they are the two faces of the same coin with how similar their personnalities are, which is exactly why (according to me) they could never work as a couple. Sometimes the right partner for you is someone who resembles you, but there are times when, on the contrary, such a person would be the worst partner and I believe Darius and Brooklynn to belong to the second category. But that's below the point, what we can observe in that scene is that Darius' strong feelings about Brooklynn and her death don't manifest at all, which to me only further reinforces my theory according to which Darius' strong reaction to Brooklynn's death was mostly motivated by the crippling guilt he felt about his involvment in her death and not by his momentary crush on her. Here, he isn't swept by an overflow of emotions of sorrow and loss, no, because his main drive, his main motivation is and always was to try and make peace with what had happened that night more than anything else. So it's only to be expected that the prospect of finally finding answers, of finally getting to know why she died if not because of him, overpowers everything else in that moment, even Brooklynn as an individual and his friend.
Then there's Kenji. Immediately after entering, he is hit by everything that reminds him of Brooklynn in that place he has never even visited. First it's the helmets on the wall, especially the one with pink strikes, because that's something Brooklynn would always carry with her, and he knew that better than anyone else. It's the first familiar object he finds in that foreign place, the first thing that reminds him of her. He spends a long time looking at it, incapable of focusing on their actual mission, or care for it, unlike Darius. After a while he starts advancing into the room, touching the dust on the table and remarking how cold the appartment is, visibly shaken. Because these details only serve to remind him that Brooklynn's not here anymore, and hasn't been for a long time, because she died. And then the shoe. He stumbles on it, picks it up, and with a sad smile thinks back on all the times he'd stumbled on it when they were together. It's a little detail he found annoying at the time, like there are in any couple. He would give anything for it to happen again now that he lost her forever, as shown by his sad, endeared smile. And this scene hits differently after you realize that it was only there because Brooklynn kicked the shoe when she was mad that he broke up with her. I think this whole sequence is so touching and sad. It's the first time we see how much he misses her, how much he misses the little things she added to his daily life. They're supposed to be investigating the dino smuggling but his feelings about Brooklynn are too strong and he completely looses focus. Because while he loved and admired Brooklynn as a person, what he loved more than anything was being with her, the relationship they had, and it was something only the two of them shared, a gap only Brooklynn could fill.
I find the difference between the two striking. This isn't to say that Darius doesn't care about Brooklynn, he does, but it's different from the way Kenji cares about her. Darius loved and admired Brooklynn's personnality, she was amazing after all... But Kenji loved her, loved being with her, loved what they had built. And that scene, to me, perfectly showcases that.
Do you believe Brooklynn has feelings for Darius?
Hellooo, I really don't think she does! (who's surprised honestly?) No but fr I need to stop writing essays on this topic ๐ Thank god i'm an insomniac.
I know people are convinced she loves him back because she didn't *actually* reject him and instead said "I'm not really ready for..." but if you look closely at the sequence, the way they animated her body language and facial expressions is much more telling than her words (at least to me), and it led to me agreeing with Darius' recollection of this moment (she tried to be nice about it but it was clear she didn't feel the same).
Like, I don't see how anyone can see that and think she's in love ๐ญ THAT'S the face of love according to this fandom???? She looks horrified at the mere possibility that Darius could feel anything other than friendship towards her.
Also important to note that she started saying "I just don't think..." before changing her choice of words, and to me it's a clear sign she was about to reject him more directly, but couldn't do it, so instead she went for an answer that would spare his feelings.
And when you add the shot of her putting distance btw them by moving her feet away from him as if she suddenly felt uncomfortable with their proximity... Why would you physically recoil as the person you *supposedly* love confesses to you?
To me if the writers had wanted to indicate that deep down she wanted to be with Darius, but couldn't in this moment because it was too soon (as she said)/for Kenji's sake, they would have had her say the same thing, but have her body instinctively move closer to him as a physical manifestation of her "true feelings" (...which it is, but it moved away, you do the math).
Also the fact that right after that she still asks him to meet with her for her investigation. I don't know, I think that if she felt anything towards him she would have been as embarrassed/uncomfortable as him, but here she brushed it off as if it was nothing. She had no problem with the idea that she would see him later that day, as if to her there was nothing more to be said/this "incident"/chapter was closed.
I already talked about the look during the plane scene so I'm not going to do it again.
From a story standpoint, it would be really questionnable writing if she suddenly fell in love with someone a week after her partner of 6 years dumped her.
And I absolutely cannot see them throw the "she was in love with Darius while dating Kenji" excuse at us, like, that's straight up character assassination. I know they made Brook morally grey but you can't come back from that ๐. Also, it would go against what they showed in the two first seasons because she looked really in love with Kenji (how devastated she looked when he broke up, how happy they were on the video on her phone, how physically affectionate she was with him in episode 3, the picture of them in her secret apartment...).
And this.
I didn't think my biggest evidence for Kenlynn would be some scribbles on a notebook, but oh well ๐
Like, one simply cannot explain this away. This was her attempt at telling them she was alive, and she only wrote to Kenji, not Darius. And it's not like she had to censore herself or to, idk, force herself to write to Kenji to keep up the appearances because those are only, as I said, scribbles on a paper, her raw feelings and thoughts, something she was never going to send anyway.
Like, if they want to make dinostar canon, why post that? Why not take this opportunity to add content/substance to the ship they *supposedly* want to make endgame? Having that letter addressed to Kenji only serves the purpose of showing us that Kenji's the one on her mind, because otherwise that was unnecessary. They could have had her write to the whole camp fam, but instead they decided to show us that she wanted to tell Kenji she was alive above everyone else, including Darius, the one who confessed to her right before her "death" and who Brooklynn most likely knew felt incredibly guilty for not showing up/for her death (Ronnie probably told her).
If she was in love with Darius she would have adressed the "letter" to him, I can't see any argument against that. Or maybe it's more that if she wasn't in love with Kenji anymore, she wouldn't have written to him, but to all of them.
Honestly, the most I can see them giving Dinostar as far as Brooklynn's feelings for Darius go is to have her admit that she used to have a little crush on him when they were on Nublar but that it completely disappeared once she started getting coser to Kenji. I have nothing to back up this theory, but I don't know, I thought that much wouldn't be too far fetched.
(oh, and I almost forgot but this goes without saying... pretty sure her getting attacked, alone at night, mauled by a dino and loosing her arm partly because he set her up would have killed any potential blooming feeling in her).

Kenji and Brooklynn seem to be very incompatible right now. So why and how will their relationship work if they're so different? In jwcc those two were similar, but now, not even their hobbies aren the same.
Can u tell us what in common they have in CT?
I think this argument is flawed and might be influenced by your dislike of the ship (i assume you don't ship them).
Because we literally don't know ANY of the Nublar 6 hobbies, only their jobs. We never got to see them in their everyday lives before everything went down. Like, would you be able to tell me what Ben's hobbies were before he started invastigating Brooklynn's death? Or Darius before he started hunting down the allosaurus?
The same could be said about Yaz and Sammy. Like, from what's in the show, would you be able to tell what they have in common, their shared hobbies? No, because it's not integral to the plot, the only thing we know is that they love each other and that's all we need to know.
Because the show isn't a romcom about the romantic/everyday lives of six friends, it's a show about the lives of six friends who have to deal with deadly dinosaurs and corrupted human beings ruining their lives. So that's normal that we don't really know what their lives look like when everything is "normal", because it's not what the show's about.
And I actually think that the show is telling us that what broke up Brooklynn and Kenji was anything but a compatibility problem.
They were together for 6 years, and in the few flashbacks we have, we're shown that they were nothing but happy together during these six years. They went on picnics, on hikes, lived together, the only picture Brooklynn had at her secret appartment was of them (printed and framed, on her desk, where she spent most of her time), she had cute cringy videos of them on her phone, they still looked smitten with each other in the few scenes we got...
Neither of them actually wanted to break up.
But I can see the point you're trying to make, in that Brooklynn's investigation could be considered a "hobby" like any other that'd make her incompatible with Kenji.
But it's clearly not. It's not explicitly said, but it's in the subtext that things only started going awry when she started working on the Broker case after Ben introduced Dark Jurassic to her (she said it to Kenji, "I've been all over the place lately, I'm just working on something super important").
Before that, it seemed she had a healthy balance between her personal life and her work.
This shows that this is not a "Kenji and Brooklynn are not compatible" problem, but rather a "Brooklynn developed an unhealthy obsession with catching the broker" problem. The proof of that is that she didn't neglect only Kenji, but all her friends (as shown in the facetime), not even doing the bare minimum anymore to maintain her relationships (weekly facetimes).
At that point Brooklynn wasn't compatible with ANYONE, but that was because she lost herself and started neglecting herself by neglecting her personal life. We're shown times and times again. She's devastated when Kenji breaks up with her but the bag of money from Daniel is enough to make it instantly disappear from her mind, same with Darius' confession, she hears that her best friend is in love with her, that should be a life-shattering news, and yet immediately after she goes back to her investigation as if nothing even happened and expects Darius to do the same and still help her with her investigation. This is not normal, this is not healthy, and this is not who we are told Brooklynn was during these six years.
Her obsession is not shown as a "natural" evolution of her character, as part of her normal behavior, it's something that happened to her and that basically ruined every aspect of her life. There's a lesson she needs to learn. She's not supposed to still be this Brooklynn at the end of the show, because it's not the real Brooklynn.
So I think that when she manages to get out of that self-destructing obsession, she'll be able to repair her relationships, she will want to. And, as I said, a lack of compatibility was never a thing for her and Kenji. They were compatible before she "lost herself", and they loved each other.
I think she already got rid of her unhealthy obsession, but is now continuing solely because she thinks she doesn't have a choice. That she already sacrificed too much to stop before she achieves her goal, that what awaits her if she was to get back to her loved ones now is too scary for her, and that she genuinely does it to protect her friends because she knows that now, they're in the Broker's radar because of her.
As for what they have in common...as I said, we don't know that about any of the characters.
Me when i cried at their breakup
How did you feel, mrs. Bowman, when you realized that you are now a mother of three and one of your sons doesn't know what it's like to have a parent? You catch glimpses of it. It's in his stance when he stands in the kitchen's door, watching the cake with burning candles on the table, and his eyes ask "is it for me", but his lips are sealed. He doesn't ask, you don't answer. His love for you is quiet, always will be. Awkward in his casualness, every evening he helps you cook, and pretends he knows what he's doing.
How did you feel, Brandon, when you realized that your younger brother is no longer a child? It hits you at random, in the middle of the grocery store. You lost Darius between the long shelves and instinctively went looking for him in the toy alley, only to find him with his eyebrows furrowed, eyes scanning the fruit on the display. His mind wanders, you can tell, his vision somewhere where your experience doesn't reach. You watch as his shoulders tense momentarily at the noise behind his back, only to relax minutes later. He turns around, your eyes meet his, you see it for a split second - how there's a bridge between the two of you - and then he blinks, and his eyes are shadowed with innocence again. You realize then how much your brother tries to be a child.
How did you feel, Mr. Gutierrez, when you noticed that your daughter's family grew in size? She has always been a child rich in love, ready to gift her smile and joy and affection to anyone around her. Family though, was always special to her. One of a kind. Now, she has two families and both of them evoke slightly different feelings in her. How did you feel, mr. Gutierrez, when you noticed the heartache of being separated from her found family on your daughter's face? How did you feel when you realized that she relates safety with them these days? You thought then - your past with your daughter would never sate the hunger for love in her stomach.
How did you feel, Mrs. Faduola, when you asked your daughter if she wanted to run a charity marathon and she flinched? You find her later, curled up in the corner of a sofa with a sketchbook in her hands. She notices you, she is so keen these days, but makes no motion to invite you closer. Long minutes pass before she speaks "I've once ran a marathon to save someone's life," and her lips wobble, and she adds "running is difficult now" and you know that her future as an athlete is no more. She leaves the room not long after that, sketchbook opened, and each page is marked with a hint of claws and teeth. The adrenaline of survival, not competition changed the course of your daughter's blood.
How did you feel, Mrs. Pincus, when you noticed the restlessness coiling in your son's body? He has always been a quiet child, a book in his hands, a tremble of worry in his heart. He sees the world differently now, moves differently. He walks as if there was a splinter in his foot, and he could do nothing to pull it out. Did your breath catch at the back of your throat, Mrs. Pincus, when you saw the tension in your son melt away as he stepped onto the rooftop and saw an open sky? Your son's life was safe - books and shelters - but now he is only alive in a world full of possibilities. It is not fear that shakes his body, it is his heart - anxious still but brave enough to step out.
How did both of you feel, fathers of internet wonder, when you realized that the screen charms your daughter no more? Through her camera she always spun the world into a magical mystery, now she seeks shadows and walks into nights of the unknown. Secrets are darker, she learnt, more sinister than a child's joy can handle. Something changed in that daughter of yours, and her colorful hair is now a contrast to what is lurking in her eyes. You followed her through the digital footsteps she left behind, now she is more careful and covers her tracks. As if worried, she'd be hunted.
Hi, it's me again... since you answered my last question about Kenlynn so well, I'm going to ask you one more, because I'd like to know if you've thought about it. I've never seen anyone come up with the answer to this: why does Darius know Brooklynn's password and not Kenji? We know that B stayed at Darius' house for about a week, but still, Brooklynn trusted him enough to give him the password - but not Kenji. Why would the writers put this in if it's not going anywhere?
I actually thought about it and I have two theories (as well as some thoughts):
- She didn't actually give it to him. But since he was constantly watching her and she was constantly on her phone, he couldn't help but come to know it even if he didn't mean to.
- She gave it to him in a casual manner. For example she was busy but needed to check something on her phone so she asked Darius and gave him her password.
Like, I can't picture anything other than that. That'd be hella weird if she sat Darius down and told him "Listen, Darius, I'm going to give you my new password. Why, you ask? Well, as a proof of my trust in you, of our amazing relationship. What do you do with it? I don't know, I didn't think that far ahead." That doesn't happen, you don't give your password to someone without an actual reason/a necessity.
I understand why some might think it means more, but we need to take a few things into consideration.
Brooklynn was never the type of person to be secretive about the contents of her phone, quite the contrary actually. In camp cretaceous everybody used her phone all the time.
And it's not because she somewhat trusted Darius more, because while she was with Kenji, he knew her password too, despite all the shady stuff on it (I hope it was because she knew Kenji would never actually snoop on her phone, because if not she's just a terrible investigator ๐). People knowing her password was never a big deal to her, even with the shady stuff.
I think I need to adress it but I really don't think she changed her password before Kenji broke up with her/to hide her investigation from him. Her investigation was a long one, it took months, so I think Kenji would have noticed if she had suddenly changed her password out of nowhere since the fact that they knew each other passwords in the first place implies they had no problem using each other phones, it was a casual thing they did during their relationship.
And I mean, Darius knew her new password, but knew nothing about her investigation either, so she didn't give him access to anything Kenji didn't have access to when they were together. And the fact that it didn't even play a role in the flashback with Darius kinds of confirms that it wasn't an important plot point.
I think what happened is that she changed it out of spite after Kenji broke up with her because it was a date relating to their relationship.
Now, why it was in the show in the first place?
This scene had a purpose. Until that scene (and the one right before where both Kenji and Darius try to grab the phone), Darius' feelings had never been outwardly teased, only left to interpretation (his grief could still have been the result of a man mourning his best friend).
But with this scene, we were shown that Darius felt guilty about knowing her password (not because it meant anything deep, but because it reminded him of the fact that he'd spent enough time with her to come to know it, and to "fall in love" with her).
But more importantly, we were shown that Kenji didn't like the fact that he knew her password, which was the first sign to the audience that something weird was going on, since even Kenji was jealous.
They needed scenes to lead up to the reveal that Darius liked Brooklynn, and the password one was one of them. You know, setup/payoff.
And as always... I might be totally wrong since I'm not a mind-reader and can't see the future yet, so chances are season 3 will make me look like a clown... no, the whole damn circus. Like, it's highly possible the writers of the show are reading my posts thinking "girl, you deserve some credit for trying but I beg you to stop embarrassing yourself" ๐. Just to say that these are merely theories.
Omg I just found the ultimate proof Kenlynn is endgame, it's mindblowing. This is so much better than everything I've written until now.

I like this show a normal amount
Purple is still my fav๐คทโโ๏ธ
Another JWCT season 2 Kenlynn analysis because I'm obsessed and I don't know if the writers are geniuses, or if I'm getting worked up over a whole lot of nothing ๐.
So, bear with me.
Kenji's arc in season 2 is clear from the first episode: he's throwing himself at danger because of the losses he's suffered. He's broken.
But in all that sadness, he has one last glimmer of hope: Bumpy's egg.
He's the one the most attached to it, even more so than Ben. After all these losses, it's the first sign of something good happening in his life. It's the contrary of death, a birth, "someone" new he can love.
During the entire season he's the most concerned with the egg, obsessed with getting it back, almost dying for it (more on that later).
Now flashfoward to episode 8: he discovers that Brooklynn is alive.
When he finds out, he's confused, hurt, mad, shook to his core (but props to the animators, for a split second...you can see that he is just... so happy).
"She's alive?"
But the hurt and feeling of betrayal is too hard for him to grasp, so he pushes all his feelings away. He knows it's not the time.
And what does he do in order to push away his feelings about Brooklynn?
He focuses on the egg, as we established the only thing in his life which isn't tarnished or hurtful. And he desperately needs it right now, now that his whole world is crumbling down even more. This shift in his priorities is shown when he says this:
"The eggs... Brooklynn took Bumpy's egg..."
At this point, Kenji's motivations are still unclear, but this line suggests that his main goal, the thing the most important to him at this moment is the same as it was at the beggining of the season, aka getting Bumpy's egg back... not getting to Brooklynn.
So when he goes berserk, driving like a madman, running as if his life depended on it to get to Brooklynn, of course we have the feeling that he wants to see her, but he's also running to achieve his objective, which has always been to take care of Bumpy's egg, and it just so happens that Brooklynn is the one obstacle to his goal.
We can see he's desperate, but it's left to interpretation as to exactly why.
Until he finally catches up to Brooklynn.
It's Brooklynn's hand he grabbs, not the case. The thing he wanted the most is in his direct reach, yet he grabbs her hand. In this moment, he completely forgets about the egg, not even sparing it a glance, not mentionning it even once.
"Brooklynn..."
All that matters to him is that the girl he loves is there, in front of him, which he thought would never happen again.
We finally have the confirmation that the reason he was so eager to run to that airport wasn't to get the egg back, but to see her. And not to get mad at her, no, just to... get her back.
And then, Brooklynn leaves.
She leaves them, but she leaves him. It's him she looks at the last, his grasp she frees herself from, him who utters her name afterward.
They're still at the center of the scene, and the scene is a direct call back to the break-up scene (also... their colors are matching, it's like not even a little subtle, which tells me there's a reason Brooklynn wore a dark blue shirt the entire season...which is SO NOT her color).
Notice how even there, it's Ben who remembers to ask Brooklynn to give them the egg.
"Wait! Bumpy's egg... it's in that case..."
It's SO FAR from being something Kenji can focus on right now, now that Brooklynn is in front of him.
We then find out that before boarding the plane, Brooklynn has given Kenji the egg. Not Ben (who was the one who asked for it), not Darius, but Kenji.
...And Kenji looks the most heart-broken he has ever looked.
He has just gotten his hands on what he thought he wanted the most, his ultimate goal this season, the very thing he threw himself into fire for, into an ocean beaten by the storm... and yet he's not even looking at it, his eyes instead watching the plane take off with Brooklynn inside.
He's gotten what he thought he wanted, but at what price?
It's not to diminish his link to Bumpy's egg. As I've shown, he risked his life countless times for it. But it just goes to show just how much Brooklynn matters to him. In that last scene, it's made clear that the thing he wanted the most, was for her to come back to them, to him. But she didn't, and gave him the egg to make up for it, as some sort of consolation price.
But it's not, and it will never be.
