Will Byers Hyperfixation

💯💯 Volume two and the finale honestly exposed so many people and where their priorities lie. Like we knew already that all they cared about was their blorbo’s non canon queerness but it was just more obvious. Even if Will’s vecna vision centered Mike (which we know for a fact that it didn’t because he said all his family and friends were in it), and Vecna was trying to convince Will that Mike didn’t love him, he wouldn’t exactly be wrong, even in a friendship sense. Mike has ditched him for his girlfriend for months on end, refused to contact him when they separated and blamed him partially for their distance. His flimsy apology doesn’t change anything because it was non specific.

He also didn’t see Will’s very clear pain in the van scene and had the audacity to say that his life started the day he found el in the woods. Will frankly has no reason to believe Mike even cares about him on a best friends level, let alone a romantic one. His signals arc in season five where he seemed like he had hope for a second was the writers being bad at their jobs, Will already ripped off the bandaid in season four. And Mike hasn’t done anything to prove he’s being a better friend except the bare minimum (don’t insult him, don’t hurt him, encourage him to find his powers).

It’s not on Will to help Mike figure out his queerness (nonexistent btw he is straight in canon) and the concept of Will having “fumbled” Mike as if Mike was ever any sort of prize is laughable.

I’ve also seen the same people who say this have hcs about Will supporting Mike through grieving el and helping him work through his “depression”, which is like LMAO you guys really don’t give a single fuck about Will. Canonically and realistically, I believe that Will and Mike stay friends but eventually grow apart, Mike doesn’t try all that hard to keep in contact and Will is tired of putting in extra work plus he’s off living his happy gay life in ny. Also I think the only people he’ll be close to are max and Lucas in the party. He’ll be close to Dustin too but in the sense that they don’t talk for months on end but are still good and close.
