Esra: I'm trying something my grandmother taught me when I was a teenager. It smells amazing so I have high high hopes.

Esra: Babe, can you do me a favor and pick up some naan on your way home? I'm cooking!

Esra: And so far it doesn't look bad.

“I’ve got a dog, I’ve got a tiny guitar, everything is perfect.”

“What are you going to do with said tiny guitar?”

“oh, nice. we’ve been married for two weeks…so it’s still super new.”

“Oh, shit. Yeah, that is super new.”

“Exactly! It’s on your terms and your relationship, no one else’s.”

“Exactly. And hey, I don’t know what will happen, but it’s my journey.”

“oh, well in that case…sorry for taking it that way…and for misunderstanding. like i said, just used to it. i appreciate it, though. how long have you been married?”

“It’s cool. A little under a year. I was basically right outta undergrad when we got married.”

“no, it has nothing to do with that at all…i’m actually really happy…that congratulations just seemed kind of backhanded…which trust me, i’m totally used to…but that still doesn’t make it any less annoying. plus like…i just tend to look sad. it’s kind of my resting face. i’ve tried fixing it and nothing works.”

“Okay, well it wasn’t so -”

“thanks, i guess.”

“What’s the bummed face for, doll? Not happy being hitched?”

“well, i’m eighteen…literally five months to the day from being nineteen, and i’m married. kind of a shock, but still not the end of the world.”

“Yeah? Well, I’ll admit eighteen is a little young sounding, but hey, congrats.”

“The whole age thing has always pissed me off. Like I don’t think any age can physically prepare you for something life changing. I mean, do you know how many divorced middle aged people there are? But they are more inclined to preach that you shouldn’t get married until you’re mature, which is also a dense word because you can’t base maturity off age at all. It’s a mindset, there’s tons of immature adults and mature young adults”

“And, maybe I’ll end up getting a divorce, sure, but if I do it will be my business and there will be many factors beyond my age that will determine that.”

“i could go on a whole rant about the whole ‘too young to be married’ thing but i won’t. like, honestly, it irritates me so much. let adults make their own decisions, if they want to marry someone else at a ‘young’ age, and they’re happy. that’s it. period.”

“I’m twenty-four. Plenty of people my age are married. It’s really not that big of a shakeup.”

“I wasn’t trying to offend you, it just kind of… came out.”

“Do I look too young or something? I guess I just don’t get it.”

“How old are you?”

“I’m twenty-four.”

“But then I can’t mercilessly make fun of you.”

“Yes, well, there’s that perk as well.”

“And you love me.”

“I do, with all my heart.”

“Maybe a little. It is true though.”

“You’re ridiculous.”
