Hello Doctor!
Recently Mommy mentioned she would like to have puppy "fixed", making puppy scared and confused... Doesn't Mommy like puppy just the way she is?
Can the Doctor help puppy please?
Heyβ¦ itβs okay. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with you; your mommy is just doing whats best for you.
When she says they want to have you βfixed,β itβs almost never about disliking them or wanting to change who they are. Itβs about health, behavior, and long-term care. Itβs a very practical decision, one I often reccomend people do, because it can prevent certain illnesses and reduce behaviours that might cause stress or problems later on.
So no, it doesnβt mean Mommy suddenly doesnβt like you βthe way you are.β If anything, it usually means sheβs thinking ahead and trying to take care of you responsibly. People donβt make plans like that for things they donβt care about.
Part of it is probably the medical side. Procedures are scary. Not being in control and being put to sleep, not knowing exactly what will happen, imagining worst-case scenariosβ¦ all of that can build up quickly in your head. Thatβs completely normal. But in reality, these are very routine procedures. Theyβre done carefully, with proper anaesthesia, monitoring, and aftercare. The goal is always safety and recovery, not harm.
A medical decision about your body isnβt the same thing as a judgment about your worth. Care and affection donβt suddenly disappear because of something like this. If anything, going through something vulnerable like a procedure usually brings more care afterwards; more attention, more gentleness, more checking in.
