Hello Doctor!
Recently Mommy mentioned she would like to have puppy "fixed", making puppy scared and confused... Doesn't Mommy like puppy just the way she is?
Can the Doctor help puppy please?
Hey… it’s okay. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with you; your mommy is just doing whats best for you.
When she says they want to have you “fixed,” it’s almost never about disliking them or wanting to change who they are. It’s about health, behavior, and long-term care. It’s a very practical decision, one I often reccomend people do, because it can prevent certain illnesses and reduce behaviours that might cause stress or problems later on.
So no, it doesn’t mean Mommy suddenly doesn’t like you “the way you are.” If anything, it usually means she’s thinking ahead and trying to take care of you responsibly. People don’t make plans like that for things they don’t care about.
Part of it is probably the medical side. Procedures are scary. Not being in control and being put to sleep, not knowing exactly what will happen, imagining worst-case scenarios… all of that can build up quickly in your head. That’s completely normal. But in reality, these are very routine procedures. They’re done carefully, with proper anaesthesia, monitoring, and aftercare. The goal is always safety and recovery, not harm.
A medical decision about your body isn’t the same thing as a judgment about your worth. Care and affection don’t suddenly disappear because of something like this. If anything, going through something vulnerable like a procedure usually brings more care afterwards; more attention, more gentleness, more checking in.
