This World Will Remember Us

There was no way Harris ever looked guilty, with that smug face of his. That stupid, sexy, handsome face of his. Or maybe, contrarily, he always looked guilty and it was just hard to tell if it was real or not, for he never felt guilty, but he always was of one thing or another. No, she thought the former as she felt the reverberation of Harris’ voice echo through the halls. Penny was filing her nails down, a cup of AB+ blood to her left as she looked up from the kitchen table (a formality for when the trio had guests over, on the rare occasion, or for other recreational activities). 

“That’s rhetorical, right?” she asked, turning back downwards and raising her brow in a humorous manner, but trying to keep a straight face. It was rather difficult, if truth be told, around her two roommates. She had never known love like this before, and didn’t want to change it for the world. “What on earth did you do? The list of possibilities would exhaust me, love. It would be much easier if you spat it out,” she grinned finally, looking up at the man of the house and extending her neck so he could kiss her on the lips. 

Harris had a way of always making any situation seem like it was a good time. After a life of criminal behavior his moral compass was very skewed and what seemed like a bad idea for others was often a green for him. The only area he valued anything was a sense of seriousness was how he felt about Penny and Lennox. He had never loved anything on this earth as much as he loved them and that was the sort of thing that would never change for him. 

“ Probably. But I still love to ask” Harris replied grinning at one of his girlfriends with a smile only reserved for them. “ Where is the fun in that Penny? Life is an adventure and guessing and games are part of it” He teased before rushing out of the room only to return with a puppy. “ Sooooo I may have found this outside of town and by found I mean someone left it in their yard and it really wanted some food and I was like ‘hey why the fuck not. you can eat food in our house’.”

Ever since New Years, Milo’s head was buzzing with the ghost of his sister. Shades were apparently now a part of life and he found himself looking for her to appear again anxiously, overwhelmed by the desire to have her back in his life. 

It was the desire to keep going that had him keeping as busy as he possibly could, which included running errands, fixing old books, working later than necessary, and even things like going to the gym which was not particularly normal for him.

In the basketball court, he took a shot, made it, and started dribbling, frustrated as the repetitive motion of his thoughts started again. It was exhausting, living with his brain that never turned off. He heard the door open and looked up, tucking the ball under his arm. “Hey. Wanna play a round?”

Harris wasn’t going to lie to himself, but he had no interest in being in the gym. He was in good shape and liked to stay in good shape, but that was far beyond the reason he was actually in the building. The vampire got so bored of being on his best behavior and every once in a while he had to do something minor to at least make him feel like he wasn’t living a boring life now. It was why he was going through people’s bags to steal  anything that took his fancy. He was trying to avoid being caught so he went out a different way he entered only to open the door to a basketball court. Harris raised a brow as he looked around only to pick up on a semi familiar voice. “ Were you just waiting around for anyone to come in or something?” Harris smirked raising a brow. “ Milo right?”

Harris was not the type to seem romantic, because he wasn’t raised to be that way. He grew up in a period where romance wasn’t a priority which was part of why he left and his personality wavered somewhere between chaotic and dense. However, there was something about this time of year that brought out a side of Harris he rarely showed others. Even now the only people who saw it were Lennox and Penny. He may have seemed like a fool but he was a loyal and fun one. The vampire looked around before glancing down to Penny. “ What are we thinking?” He asked, taking everything in again, and trying to keep his random impulsiveness at bay. If he followed every impulse nothing would ever happen except disaster.

“This one?” she asked, pointing to a wooden bed that he eyed. She saw the appeal, and she fell backwards onto it. Penny giggled on it as he followed her, but she covered her face so he couldn’t attack her. “I guess we have a winner! Finally! We did something right!” She was glad they got something from their to-do list done, somehow even with Harris around. She lowered her hands and nipped at his neck, giving him his own prize. “In a minute I’ll ring it up. I just wanna see what it’ll be like to lay with you for a moment,” she said. She didn’t like to be vulnerable, but somehow she could around Harris and Lennox. Only those two could see this side of her, as they saw every side of her, good and bad. She lifted her head to look on the other side of Harris. “Oh, plenty of room for Lennox. This is the one. This is the one.”

Harris surprisingly managed to avoid getting distracted as they finalized picking the bed frame they wanted for the trio. It was an impossible feat considering every time he glanced over at Penny it was hard for him to think straight. It could have been unbelievable that he still felt the same way about Penny and Lennox as he did when they met, but his feelings never wavered, even though his other emotions had been compromised over the years. “Don’t go doubtin yourself now Penny, you always do everything right” Harris retorted raising a brow as he let himself relax onto the bed and relax next to her. Though, being relaxed with one of his partners was not the immediate thought in his head when in a bed. “ Lucky me. What’d I do right to deserve this?” He smirked as he wrapped an arm around her to pull her close. “ This might be the best one yet” He smirked looking over at the space Lennox would end up taking. He gave Penny a kiss on the neck, finally losing his focus. “This mean we can go now?”

“It was the time of my life,” she lied. It was rather lonely, working alone. Her life didn’t actually begin until she met Greyson, but he didn’t need to know the sappy details. Especially if he wouldn’t spill the beans on his lovers. “Ah I see. Robbers? Banks? I suppose it is none of my business, but don’t worry, my lips are sealed. I don’t have anyone to tell, anyways. Just a bunch of old timers and my partner, really. Jesus I need to make more friends.” She shrugged her shoulders. “Anyway, it was a pleasure to meet you. I’ll have to keep in touch with you and your posse. I’m sure they’re lovelier than you; women usually are.” Like Penny, Charlie usually favored women over men. Charlie looked at her photograph, twirled it in her fingers, and smiled at the friendly man. 

“Sounds like it. Not really the type to slow down myself” Harris admitted with a shrug. He could barely remember what life was before stealing, because he had been dong it for so long. Anything other than his routine was just boring for him. “Yes and yes. Didn’t get killed in a car on the highway though. One bullet was all it took. Not very fucking flashy” He laughed. Even though the truth was he got shot trying to cover Lennox. “ A limited amount of friends isn’t a big deal so long as the ones you got are perfect. “ He shrugged. All he had was Penny and Lennox and it was all he needed cause to him they were perfect. “Not gonna argue with that. They are. I’m pretty fan-fuckin- tastic, but they’re way above me” 

She sighed after everything was put in her pockets and stood up, stretching her back and placing her hands on her hips. “Believe me, mister, I have written essays and letters. And yes, they are hideous, but they serve a purpose and are very functional. Why can’t people overlook that?” She swung her hips to the side and looked up at him, crossing her arms over her chest. “How old would that make you?” she asked nosily, her bad habits getting the better of herself. 

“For the fun of it or for some specific reason to have them out there?” Harris asked questioning whether or not she had actually done something like that. His own scholastic abilities were not something to write home about. He grew up on a farm during the great depression, it wasn’t like he was getting out there and learning much, but he picked up some stuff along the way. “Because they’re held together with that dumb little plastic clasp. How can something I can break apart by lookin at it wrong be functional?’ Harris retorted, raising a brow . “Well that’s invasive. “ He chuckled, before giving her a smile to let her know he wasn’t bothered by it. “ 117″

“If we break it we gotta pay for it. Good to know Lethe can do something right,” she grinned, suggesting that the sturdy bed could mean Lethe was actually a good place to be. He then leaned in to kiss her after sending the clerk away, and she grabbed his cheeks in her hand, making him gaze at the entirety of the store. “Pick a bed, any bed, and we’ll take it home and make memories on it.” What Harris had said earlier about him and Lennox coming home from the store with everything except what they’d come for was true, so Penny decided they needed to hurry up and get what they’d come for. “Only then will you get your prize.” She slunk off the bed and stepped around the room. “Am I hot or cold?” she asked, insinuating which way to go for the bed (though she suspected he would say ‘hot’ no matter what and she would have to pick one out, so she turned her attention to the room that was near-empty of people, not of beds, so she could pick something that was suitable for the three of them. Her family). She pointed to her left, smiling and stepping like a catwalk.

“The extent of their abilities as a functional society is a store policy. That’s embarrassing” Harris replied smirking. Despite Lethe being seen as a safe space for them to lay low, the whole concept of councils and feeling like he was being watched did not feel safe at all to the vampire. Still, it was better than going back out there and potentially losing the ability to be with the loves of his life. It was impossible to stay focused on the task at hand when he had those eyes staring back at him. He was just as in love with Penny and Lennox as he had been when they all met. “ I can’t just pick any bed. I need somethin sturdy. “ He teased, not realizing he was about to lose focus again. He was like a child with a short attention span on a good day. On a day like today, he was impossible. The only way Harris was able to keep focused was when Penny pulled away and he practically fell in an attempt to bring her close again and missing. “Oh that’s just evil” He replied looking around but making no effort to move yet as his bright blue eyes followed Pennys form around the sales floor. “Always hot” He replied before tilting his head a moment to gaze in the direction she had gone, only to finally get up and follow her. “Definitely hot” He added catching up to her as he clocked what looked like the perfect fit for the three of them.
