it's hip to be on the square

This pretty painting is by @tally-kiza! 😍 She accepted a commission of a scene from the oneshot Bountiful, when Arthur and Sarah are walking in Gotham Park 🍁:

'Stare locked on hers, he slowly lowered the leaf. Palmed it and tucked it away to press into the pages of his journal. “You know, no matter what happened, I’m here,” he said, closing her hand between both of his.

She kissed the back of his fingers. They curled under the tender fullness of her lips. “I know you are, Arthur.” Her palm rested on his sternum, directly above his heart. Pulling him to her, not pushing back. “I know you are.”'

One of the things I love about this piece is how you've captured Sarah's subtle fragility and Arthur's quiet courage. Throughout the WWH series, she's a bedrock for him. But she needs him, too, a cornerstone that helps her learn that, when you're with the right person, there's strength in vulnerability. It's so nice to be able to see their dynamic!

The white outlines are an interesting choice that make the characters pop from the background. I love the details of the bridge and the twisty, autumn trees. The highlights of their hair are a great touch, and their warm regard for each other makes me smile. 😊

This drawing was a Christmas present I didn't see coming, a lovely surprise. 🎅🏻 It's a safe-for-work version of the following scene from Do Not Disturb*:

"Legs folded under her in the corner chair, Sarah read this weekend’s issue of Catskill Mountain News. She appeared absorbed, lips moving. Wisps of brown and grey hair softened her face, diffused shadow alternated with silvery light in the hollows of her neck. And she was nude save for his forest green cardigan."

You portrayed Sarah so well! I love how you lightened her hair to show her greys. At forty-six, she has a few. 👩🏼‍🦳 The rumples in the cardigan feel cozy, a nice depiction of Arthur's clothing. She would be very appreciative of the supportive bra! 😂 The newspaper is great; the headline and photo are perfect details. The whole atmosphere is one of peace, of calm before a sultry storm. 😏🔥

Though this is from Arthur's point of view, it means a lot that you like Sarah enough to draw her portrait without him. That you felt she deserves to be featured all on her own. 😊

A very dear and sweet friend commissioned this painting by @tally-kiza as a birthday gift. 😊 It's of a scene in my oneshot The Falls, the story of Arthur and Sarah's weekend honeymoon to Niagara Falls.

Cal, thank you very much for agreeing to take on this commission. You did such a beautiful job bringing this vignette to life! 😍 The subtle pattern on the wall is an example of your attention to detail, as are the wrinkles on the carpet. The lighting is absolutely perfect; I love how the fire's glow spills over them. Cozy, warm, and romantic. 💖

Sarah and Arthur are great, too! They're wearing the perfect We-Need-A-Break expressions. 😂 Arthur's gazing at her with such tenderness. It's a look that makes me wonder if he's able to hear her over all the basking. 🥰 You always draw his body beautifully, and your anatomy work gets better with every sketch. Their collarbones! Their hands! His wonky shoulder! I love it all.

Cal graciously accepted a commission for this project, which is a Watch What Happens themed take on these wonderful sketches by Yidan. @tally-kiza truly put her own mark on them! From the details of Arthur's hands to the vibrancy of the colors, they are absolutely beautiful. 💜

Within these two panels, you captured Arthur and Sarah's relationship. There's a tenderness that permeates the frames, an affection as warm and inviting as a down pillow. I love how the morning sun cascades over them, and the purple and yellows of the background. 🌇

The texture of Arthur's hair is perfect, somewhere between well groomed and bedhead. His cheekbone and jawline in the second drawing make me a little nuts. 👀 You've got his anatomy down pat! Sarah, too, looks great, especially her lashes and brows as she bends up to him. And their kiss is warm fuzzies inducing. 🥰
