Hello everyone!

I am new to this but I just made my own studyblr! I am a little older than the “normal” crowd, but I am going back to school in the fall and, dang it, I need to get my act together and work on my degree. I am majoring in English and probably psychology if you are interested :3

I am ready to get serious and ready to start studying like I am serious.

Woo, worldbuilding is one of my favorite things about writing! 

First tip: Keep a lore journal! I have a journal that I keep with me almost everywhere I go. In it, I keep track of everything that I create  for my stories as far as worldbuilding goes- details about the countries/lands and settings I create, the creatures and races that inhabit them, notes about culture and society, maps of how each world connects to the others, key figures, and so on. I’m not normally the most organized person, but this thing is color coded and illustrated. Lore journals are fun, especially if you are avid about worldbuilding.

I keep mine in a bullet journal style, although a little more relaxed than some of the kinds you see on studyblrs and such.

Second tip: Watch closely, listen closely, read widely. Take inspiration from the lore and worlds of others. Don’t outright steal, of course, but try reinventing things occasionally. Create your own breed of shifter or werewolf. Challenge the mermaid stereotypes.

Third tip: Make sure your own worlds and lands are diverse and unique! if you write a lot of fantasy stories, you don’t necessarily need to use the same medieval European style for every country. Have a desert style. Take inspiration from the ancient history of countries outside of Europe. History is a fascinating resource for information.

Fourth tip: When creating my own fictional countries, I make sure to think about: 1. Climate and terrain

2. Population (size, races and beings, etc)

3. Magic and/or science

4. Government and class structure

5. Notable Aspects of Culture- religion, dress, and practices that set it apart

6. Relations with other countries in its world, if applicable

And don’t be afraid to use dress up games for clothing inspiration! I mean it, dress up games, made for kids! They’re wonderful! My favorite for fantasy in particular is this one.

And like I said, I love worldbuilding. I definitely plan on putting together some masterposts myself in the near future. :)
