being disabled will really have you thinking/saying things like “yeah i’m not really THAT disabled. as long as i take my meds twice a day (and as needed), eat and drink exactly the right things, keep the perfect balance of being active and resting, the weather is stable, and nothing unexpected happens AT ALL… i’m totally FINE! i probably should not even call myself disabled at this point because i’m doing so well!”
if you don’t want to call yourself disabled, that’s fine and it is your choice! but if you’re only “fine” or “doing really well” when a bunch of different variables are all lined up perfectly, then maybe you are not fine actually. just a thought!
I get that this is not the most popular opinion but I will never feel bad about using an ad blocker.
Not because I don't want creators to get paid - I try to support them in other ways - but because of accessibility.
I'm sober. And I'm very deliberate about that choice of words. It's not "I don't drink" for a reason. I spent a good chunk of my twenties binge drinking and would like to not do that ever again.
I don't personally think I (or anyone) should have to white knuckle my way through 3 alcohol commercials to be able to watch a tutorial to help me replace part of a floor. Ad blockers are a key part of how I avoided triggers for the first year especially.
In most places I use the internet, there is no way for me to specifically block ads with drugs and alcohol - let alone across multiple devices in the household.
"Just pay for premium" - look I'm better off than a lot of folks but I am not "pay for premium across all my services to block ads" well off. And I don't want to pay websites that hold accessibility hostage.
That we just expect people in recovery to be subject to ads trying to prey on them in order to access like these modern libraries of content and knowledge is...wild.
