differences
one of the big differences between nursing school and actually being a nurse is EVERYTHING is grey. in school things seemed a little more black and white, but nursing is actually grey. it’s harder to make an exact decision or know how to treat something because everyone is different. all the patients are different and everyone has feelings. being a nurse is hard but i wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. PS nurses are happy when nursing students bring yummy food for everyone to enjoy when you guys leave. so THANK YOU if you've ever done that :)
Hey guys! Today is a WIMB! Hope you get some ideas for yourself :) See you in the next video! PRODUCT: Longchamp Bag: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/longchamp-s...

RELAX
nursing school/NCLEX is stressful. 1 test doesn’t dictate who you are. take a deep breath. step outside and try again, even when you don’t want to.
how i studied for NCLEXRN
so i don’t know if you’ve read my past posts, but i would keep a folder/notebook full of things i didn’t know as i would take practice tests/quizzes and put them in alphabetical order. so i just used an old folder, made “ABC” tabs on them, and put only things i would get wrong in them. for example: thorocentesis: position the client sitting upright with his arms and shoulders raised and supported on pillows and/or on an overbed table and with his feet and legs well supported. (got that out of my ATI book if you wanted to know). anyway so throughout studying i would keep filling this notebook.
2 weeks before: i would make myself a study schedule (YOU SHOULD MAKE ONE FOR YOURSELF TOO!!!!) and i divided up what i was going to study for the entire day, so day 1: pharm, day 2: mental health, day 3: OB/mom&baby, day 4: peds, etc. and i would aim to answer 500 questions on that topic during that day. I know that sounds like a lot, and it is, but i just pushed myself and became this scary, irritated, anxious monster...so answering all those questions made me feel a little better about taking the test. Also i mentioned before, but the “all nurses nclex study guide” is something worth looking at! i also would read a page or 2 a day and memorized that too!
day before: in the morning i took a practice test, went over all the things i didn’t know and take test questions on things that i felt weakest on. the biggest tip i guess i could give you, other than studying and making a notebook, would be keep taking practice questions, the more you familiarize yourself with the question styles, the more you’ll feel comfortable taking the actual test. I had ATI, i never used kaplan or anything else, and i thought ATI was really good. some questions were almost the exact same (wording wise). every night before i ended my study session, i would read through my notebook and test myself. MEMORIZE FOR SURE-LAB VALUES!
*there is no easy way out of studying, you just need to sit yourself down and memorize and understand a lot of things
day of: my test was in the afternoon, which made the entire day VERY long. I was honestly miserable because i just wanted to take the test already. I ate a warm breakfast in the morning and for lunch so i wouldn’t have to get up to eat something during my test. In the morning i would keep reading through my notebook. I didn’t want to answer any questions, but i would just look at my notebook and things i found on pinterest related to NCLEX.
*make sure you bring the materials-drivers licenses, paper work, etc. and you’ll be nervous, but take it 1 question at a time, use your gut feeling, and if you’re getting a lot of SATA questions..ITS NORMAL! i read some where that the more SATA questions you have, the better you’re doing. they give you a paper/laminated sheet thing and i started writing things about dz that needed droplet precautions or airborne or contact and things like that.
anyway, this became longer than intended but yeah thats generally how i studied

NECLX tip of the day
I was looking through pinterest and found fun pictures that could help. these are some study topics that came up A LOT through out school, studying, and the test
Nursing Student tip of the day
i used to beat myself down when i didn’t do well on a test. my mind would go C on a test=low gpa= no job= no money= no future= LIFE OVER! but even though grades are important, it isn’t everything. 2 years later, i don’t look at my first nursing test i ever took and think about it and wonder why or what more i could’ve done. so if you’ve taken a test recently and haven’t done well, don’t beat yourself up. take an hour break, watch something on netflix or go get something good to eat and get back up and start again, because graduating, getting your first job, and walking across the stage during the pinning ceremony is SO WORTH IT! more worth it than that one grade. so look up! :)
NCLEX tip of the day
follow nclex mastery on Facebook or get the app. it really helped get extra practice questions in during the day or when you're bored. very helpful and the rationales helped a lot!
NCLEX tip of the day
answering select all that apply (SATA):
these SUCK! A LOTTT and i think everyone can agree. for me, its easiest to see them as True/False questions, and for me, unless i think its a clear 100% no, i tend to choose it as an answer. I know that can be dangerous and sometimes I end up choosing everything, but taking each one as a separate question helps. Also, something I read once... they said that the more SATA questions there are, the "harder" the test is getting and thats a good sign, because we all know the harder the test, the better we're doing. i remember taking mine and every 3rd question being a SATA question.
so always remember: ABC's, mallow's hierarchy, and the nursing processes! sometimes when you don't know the answer and using this as a guide to answer questions really helps!

NCLEX tip of the day
a weird fact i learned in clinical and not in school, which i later became thankful for was this...
YOU ACCESS A PORT WITH A NONCORING (HUBER) NEEDLE!
I've come to realize that this is in one line of an ATI book and i was glad I was taught this, because it always seemed to come out a lot
Nursing school tip of the day
when you're stressed out, trying to find things to do to relax you, that are not nursing related, are helpful, because it distracts you from all that stress. some things that i do during studying are just watching short youtube video clips of anything. i find it helpful to keep your mind somewhere else, even if its for 5 mins. for example, one of my favorite up-and-coming youtubers is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0IQT-FeQMg
its a nice way to just keep your mind off of nursing and into something that interests you, whether thats fashion and makeup or tv or whatever.
NURSING SCHOOL tip of the day
Be friends, or really close, with you professors. when I started job searching, I needed a few recommendations and for one of them, I needed them to take a survey within 24 hours. It's a lot of pressure, but if they like you, I believe that they'll go the extra mile for you to get your dream job. Not only do you need them to pass school, but they are important for a lot of other things. And asking them for these kind of requests (although a little bit, it's their job...) you need to make sure they write you a glowing recommendation and that they know your personality well enough. TL;DR Become close to your professors, they have to write amazing recommendations
NCLEX tip of the day
I remember questions like this on my ATI test, ATI comprehensive test, and NCLEX. This is good to know overall, because it appears a lot. Some of the questions would looks like, "how would you test cranial nerve XI" and the answer would be something like, by shrugging your shoulders or lifting your arms. A good way I memorized 11, was by raising your arms like a football touchdown sign, you're making an 11 with your arms :)

NCLEX tip of the day
Don’t always rely on the brand names, know the generic name. Sometimes NCLEX questions doesn’t give you both names to and try and figure out what it is, so to be safe. know generic names!
knowing the reversals and opposites of meds is IMPORTANT!
