“You really need to stop drinking. I’m serious.”

“This time you got yourself into a hospital. I think that’s a sign.”

Emma smiled at him gratefully and kissed his cheek. “You’re a good man Neal Cassidy.” She told him softly, before turning and continuing to prepare the food.

Emma bit her lip and looked at Neal a little helplessly. “He’s still so young though Neal. And we were the lucky ones, we found each other and a better life. He’s going down a violent, crime filled life.” She said softly. “And i know that’s the reality for a lot of kids i was in the system with, and i know i can’t help them all, but i still feel……i don’t know….shitty?” She said, not really sure how to express what she felt. “Either way, i’m grateful that i have you, and our crappy little apartment to come home to.”

Emma nodded and headed to the small kitchenette with the dinner stuff and began to prepare the food. “Okay, so…i ran into this group of guys on my way back to the car, and i was ignoring them right, wasn’t even paying them any attention, and then this kid called my name.” Emma told Neal, speaking as she cooked. “And i didn’t recognise him at first, and then it hit me. I was in a home with him. He’d been so small and cute and now he’s tall and kinda handsome, but he’s in this gang.” She added, turning to face Neal. “And it made me sad, you know? He had so much more potential…”
