𝒔𝒐𝒇𝒕 𝒐𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈
verb | 𝒊𝒏𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒍
Definition:
When you choose the softest, most sugar-coated way to say something harsh, rude, or blunt—but it still ends up sounding mean. You tried to be nice, and this was your nicest option… but oof, it still hit hard.
Example:
Used When:
“𝘐’𝘮 𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘪𝘣𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘫𝘰𝘣—𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦, 𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭.”
That’s soft opting. It could’ve been worse… but it still stings.
You don’t want to lie, but also don’t want to crush them
