I’d become.

In the embrace of the unknown

What is it like to pack up all your bags

and leave it all behind.

To go on a journey…

To discover the world and her splendours…

                     (And perhaps along the way, finding my soul)

To soar over mountains

and sail across seas;

To walk through forests and jungles

                                and dance across cities.

Would I see the wonders?

Be amazed at the scenes

that the world has to offer and placed in front of me.

Would I meet the destined people?

Ones who would help me chase my dreams

or discover those feelings

                                of finally being free.

But for all the musings and restlessness

that resides within…

Do I truly want to be lost,

immersed in the world

and its beautiful distractions?

Or am I just running…

Bumped into you on the street today,

You were holding hands with her;

Blissfully unaware of me,

And I, you.

Till our paths ran right into each other,

And it was only polite;

To greet you,

And I did.

There was no lump in my throat,

There was no twisting knot in my heart;

I felt nothing other than the pleasant surprise,

Of seeing a friend on the street.

I have found peace,

At last.

I have finally let go,

To have you hold my hand through it all, and vice versa.

Watching you hit a milestone last night, made my heart swell with pride.

That grin on your face as you got on the bike, and the exhilaration that shone through as you rode on the road, warmed my heart.

I’m so proud and happy to be on this journey with you.

What began unexpectedly on our very first adventure together, is now adventure of our lifetime.

And I won’t want it any other way.

When you walked into my life, I thought I have found someone who gets me.

A like-minded friend, a geek of sorts.

Nothing more, perhaps less.

At most, a kindred spirit to journey with me for a little longer than a while.

What I did not expect, nor even dared to dream;

Was to find my best friend, my confidant.

The other half, who added colours unimaginable to my universe.

It was only a dream

Yet I woke and felt my heart squeezing

Even when I turn around to find you lying there

Next to me

So calm

So serene

I reached out to make sure you are real

And you wrapped your arms around me

In your half-conscious slumber

Whispering how much you love me

My heart squeezes harder

The ache feels unbearable

I find it hard to breathe

Knowing the truth is as such

That you will always be mine

Yet you already belong to someone else

And no matter how much you promise

To hold me and never let me go

I know you will always walk away from me

Back to her

Back to a life that you have built

Back to the dreams you were dreaming

Before our worlds collided

And I will always watch

As you go back to that

Knowing I will never stop you

Although secretly hoping you will turn around

And choose to walk back to me

You asked me if I get jealous easily

I laughed

Shaking my head

Saying

‘Baby, very few things makes me jealous’

And you looked at me with strange eyes

I stared right back at you

With a glint in mine.

Yet know this,

I guard what’s mine jealously

Promises

Memories

Time

Me.

These things if given to me

Are mine

Those are things that I guard
