As a former people pleaser, I find this very relatable and heartbreaking all at the same time. You grow up believing that if you only show people what they consider to be "the best version of you", that you'll be rewarded with their love, loyalty, and respect. And sadly enough, life ends up showing you the oppisate.

You gain respect and love by being yourself. You attract the right people who are meant to be in your life, and reject the people who try to define you as the version of aa human they want you to be.
