Amazing work by these Holmes students.
Week 5 - 5/11
The quote of the day, “This is really starting to look like a bag.” Many of the kids are so close to finishing. Yesterday, we finished up the flaps and started sewing the poly webbing in a ‘box with and x in it’ shape to make it very secure. Most students got their reflective stripes ironed on and a few new sewers started making belts with the canvas cloth. This session was full of problem solving, team work, and general fun. It had the feeling of a a full steam ahead project under a deadline and the students are handling it very well. Given that they have testing this week, they are basically all stars.
What can you make at B Visible Workshops? Here are some ideas... #CGNcreates #BikeMonth

Week 4 - 5/4
The messenger bags are really taking shape. We are done cutting the fabric pieces from the patterns and are ready to sew, iron, sew, iron, sew, iron. The focus was on the bag flaps which help provide stability when you wear the bag. They look like little pouches (see picture to follow). The process is to cut our four pieces of fabric and four pieces of interfacing, iron on the interfacing, group the pieces in twos with the wrong side facing out, sew with a small seam, flip over and top stitch. We all had some issues with the matching up but otherwise students made some great looking work.
Many are getting quite adept at changing bobbins and changing color thread and threading machine needles. I can see confidence growing for working the machines. We wish we had more time each night and a longer session. I hope students can attend the library workshops.
