my brother and I have been having fun pitching low- to mid-budget DCU movies to each other, based on the idea that a niche superhero project is less likely to flop if it cost well under $100 million dollars to make. so far, highlights have included

black canary/green arrow romcom (PLEASE I wanna make this so baddddd)

"The Questions", a Benoit Blanc-style comedy-mystery about vigilante detective Vic Sage recruiting ex-cop Renee Montoya to help him solve a murder that hasn't happened yet

Ted Kord mockumentary biopic, in the style of something like The Social Network but about a guy who really doesn't want his company to know he's moonlighting as a goofy vigilante

"The Spy Smasher" slasher horror/political thriller about normal political activists being targeted by a government assassin

As well as two tv show concepts that could probably be done on a CW-grade budget:

Gotham Academy, an adaptation of the comic series as a YA comedy-drama. I think this could be a hit with the same folks who liked Wednesday!

Prez!, a political comedy about a teenager accidentally getting elected president on a technicality, then attempting to use his newfound position to actually help people. (This one's never gonna happen due to the current political climate, but the Mark Russell run on Prez is one of my favorite comics ever and I think an adaptation with him in the writers' room would resonate a lot with audiences)

Anyone else have any ideas for low-budget DCU projects?

I have just realised this was meant to be films not tv shows but w/e

Alternate "The Question" pitch: Renee Montoya, disgraced or underutilised detective, is assigned to the murder of Vic Sage the prominent news host (I think that's his day job?). She uncovers signs indicating that he was murdered as part of a cover-up, but when the case is forcibly closed she's forced to investigate on her own and ends up taking up the mantle of The Question to do it. I envisage it as a psychological thriller where Renee begins questioning everything about the case, including her own sanity and whether or not Vic Sage is really dead...

Honestly, you could probably do a really good Hellblazer horror film with a relatively low budget and some solid practical effects (he says having never read an actual Hellblazer comic - going off second-hand vibes and what I've heard of the style)

I'm sure it's not meant to be ...problematic...and frankly I don't mind race swapping usually but seeing so many see the backgrounds for characters like Stephanie and Jason and think they should be Black and Brown, and then see I guess the fandom personality (he's smart and drinks coffee idk) for Tim and think he needs to be Asian is sus as fuck.

Especially since the defense for doing this tends to be there's not enough diversity in the batfam and it's like...wow did you just tell on yourself so hard.

Personally, the idea that Shiva is proud of Cass (Or at least going "Good, you're unique.") for her differences instead of wanting her to be a killer/like her is actually an enjoyable way to play it if a writer wants to pick a lane for what exactly they feel for each other.

Broke: “Be a killer like me.”

Woke: “Be who you are, just push yourself forward in that pursuit.”

Anyway, this line still kills me (positive.)

Why do you think it is that the Joker is popular with incels?
