A few weeks ago @bruinthebear and I hosted a fermentation science 101 course at our home with some pretty awesome people. We started off with a demo on traditional sourdough bread, followed by @schmeg.roper + @r_o_p_e_r demoing DIY kombucha, and finished by making our own sauerkraut and having a solid food fight with some mad 🥕🥕. It was a lot of fun to gather with friends over learning something new, all the while guzzling down 🍻, 🍷, and munching on 🥖, 🧀, 🍫...because ya gotta harvest that good gut bacteria, right?! Looking forward to the next edition. | #theartoffermentation #guthealth #probiotics #sauerkraut #kombucha #kefir #coffeebeans #kvass (at Logan Square, Chicago)
Tapped into some Aquarius energy ♒️ at my first ever new moon ritual 🌑 last night, led by the lovely and wise @tinezdream. We brought forth the elements of 🔥, 🌎, 🌫, 💧and offered up our intentions for this next phase into the fire. Out with the old and in with the new. 🖤✨ (at OhmCulture)
Not sure there could be a cozier, and creamier, way of enjoying the falling December ❄️than with this delicious bowl of "cheesy" grits w/ avocado + hot sauce 🍚🌶from @jessicamurnane's debut cookbook, @onepartplant. I was happy to be a recipe tester for the book and can't wait for its release in February. You can pre-order the book now on Amazon and be guaranteed many more delicious #onepartplant meals from this talented gal! 🌱 (at Logan Square, Chicago)

I participated in a lovely workshop this weekend on the basics of sound therapy and let me tell you, vibrational therapy is going to be the next best thing. While this modality is rooted in ancient Tibetan and Buddhist culture, it is just now taking hold here in the West. I greatly look forward to integrating this technique into my future acupuncture practice. Do yourself a favor and raise your vibration with a healing sound bath! 🔊🌀〰 // #soundbath #vibrationalhealing #singingbowls #afterlight (at Equilibrium Energy + Education)
A friend of mine had a serious health scare last year and this is a framed X-ray scan of her brain with LED lights. I think it's amazing that she was able to so creatively transform a traumatic experience into a beautiful piece of art for her home. May we all find our own ways to heal and honor the dark moments in our lives. 🙏🏻💀 (at West Loop, Chicago, Illinois)
Last night felt like a culmination of all my favorite scenes in Center Stage (2001), my first favorite movie. The hardest part of the evening with @alvinailey was not getting up and dancing myself. (@anneod3 I wish you were there with me! 💃🏼💃🏻) Thanks @pcmitche for inviting me as your date! // #alvinailey #americandance #afterlight (at Alvin Ailey At Auditorium Theater)
Wanna be inside this steamy plant shop and get down to a 75 min yoga class w/ live music + a family-style home cooked meal made with whole foods? My birthday is next week and I'd love to share an evening with you at my fave yoga supper club, @breathe_eat. Peace, pollen, fennel oil, namasté. 🙏🏻🌱📿🕯 {Friday 3/18, 7:30pm at @verdant_matter in Pilsen} // #breatheeat #yogasupperclub #regram #afterlight #pilsen (at Verdant Matter)

We can probably all agree that the Marnie-Desi nuptials look like your favorite Etsy shop and fantasy wedding Pinterest board got together and made a folksy, DIY baby. We talked with costume designer Jenn Rogien about pulling together wedding fashion that was authentically Marnie Michaels.
“Planning her wedding was a little easier than planning a real wedding because I only had to manage the clothes,” joked Rogien. As far as saying yes to the dress, the costume designer knew for certain that “it wasn’t going to be a big, poufy, white” affair. After scouring the web and local shops for something a little offbeat, creator Lena Dunham suggested Stone Fox Bride. “From there, that was it. We found the perfect dress right away,” explains Rogien, who notes that the custom dress was “all about the sleeves and neckline.” The couture designer is a one stop shop for many brides, offering a variety of accessories, including the flower crown Marnie donned in lieu of a veil.
And where would a bride be without her ‘maids on the big day? The girls’ convertible dresses (see: Hannah’s unique twist on the look) came in “Suede Rose"—a hue that Rogien and Dunham joked would have delighted Marnie to no end.
Finally, a bridal look wouldn’t be complete without the right lacy underthings. Marnie’s bra was pulled from Victoria’s Secret bridal collection, which Rogien found funny. "Here Marnie is, taking a non-traditional approach to her wedding, and yet winds up with very traditional lingerie underneath it all. Therein lies the great dichotomy of Marnie!”- Diana Band

I've been connecting deeply with the idea of "ikigai" this week. Ikigai is a Japanese concept meaning "a reason for being". Everyone, according to the Japanese, has an ikigai. Finding it requires a deep and often lengthy search of self. Let 2016 be the year to unearth your inner ikigai, if you like. 😊 #ikigai #japanese #mineiseastasianmedicine (at Chicago, Illinois)
Had the most gorgeous evening last night in this romantic space. An exceptional yoga class was taught followed by a traditional homemade Indian dinner, all amidst a shop of pretty plants. Join next month (2/19) to build a community and reinvent the art of the supper club! 🙏🏻🌱✨ @breathe_eat #supperclub #yogadinner #plantpower #pilsen #afterlight (at Verdant Matter)

"Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It's splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world." - Anne of Green Gables
