Much has been said about Robin's speech and how she helps Will accept who he really is, to no longer be afraid of himself and his feelings, and to reconnect with the absolute courage of his inner child. But I hardly see anyone talking about why she did it.
Let's look at the sequence below:
First she sees the dynamic between Mike and Will and then Robin notices how they interact with each other immediately.
I mean, they're literally flirting here, and Will is relaxed and smiling and happy with Mike.
But the moment Mike leaves, Will literally panics. And, through Robin's POV, we see how terrified, nervous, anxious, and probably wondering if he is doing the right thing or ruining everything with the boy he LOVES ABOVE ALL ELSE. It's Robin who sees the FEAR in Will, fear of being himself, fear of loving, fear of opening up to someone like that.
And here we see her RECOGNIZING HERSELF in the face of this fear. She sees her past self reflected in Will. She literally swallows hard, probably remembering how difficult it was for her to deal with her issues and acceptance alone. Then she decides to try to help him overcome this fear, to accept that it's beautiful who Will is.
Robin gave the speech to Will not because she saw Mike's rejection, but because she saw Will's FEAR about himself. She saw herself in Will and said exactly what she would have liked to hear when she realized she was in love with Tammy. The scene was never about Robin acknowledging the non-existence of any possible relationship between Will and Mike, but rather about her perceiving the FEAR that Will feels/felt for being who he was.
And that's beautiful.

I'm packing my things and going away for the weekend to a country house, away from the drawing tablet (and from labewbu)
I'm back in town baby

Dick’s parents falling to their deaths really led him to making “The Flying Graysons” literal, to ensure it never happens again 😭
Well played Mr Grayson. Well Played.
Look I just find it hilarious that the love of the life of the guy whose parents fell to their deaths… can fly! Like you can’t tell me it hasn’t crossed his mind at ALL that he doesn’t have to worry about losing Kory this way!

Ohhh, bless the new Superman movie for giving me back the boy scout who believes in the innate goodness of humanity. Who thrives in the sunlight. Who thinks of himself as a servant to the world.
Bless it for giving us a smart and insightful and nuanced Lois Lane, who asks the difficult questions about power and privilege, even of those she loves. Perhaps especially of those she loves. The Lois who is a hero in her own right, on her own merits.
Bless it for Me Terrific, who was honestly terrific, and for Lex Luthor, who dripped his narcissism and rage with such convincing characterization.
Bless it for the small, charming moments from Perry, and Jimmy, and the Kents themselves, who actually seemed like Kansas farmers and not beautiful Hollywood actors wearing plaid.
Bless it... And I can believe I'm saying this... For Krypto. Who was actually value added to this delightful movie.
Superman was a delight. I have missed seeing Clark this way. Thank you cast, crew, writers, and all. I appreciate you.
Guys do you think she’s excited
many times in the new movie, clark says something to the effect of "i want to be a good person, i want to do good" and it's just. god. such a deeply common desire, one that could sound childish or naive if he didn't seem so desperately adamant about it. it's what i've always appreciated about the superman comics (and other superheroes, to be fair), the idea that most people, maybe all people, wake up every day and, despite everything that's out of their control, they try their best to do what they think is right.
clark is honestly flying blind a lot of the time. he fights with lois, he's always in trouble at work, he's a superhuman hero with problems that keep getting harder to fight. and yet he finds time to surprise lois for a 3 month anniversary, he makes friends with his falafel cart guy, he takes the time to save squirrels and, after battles, he always turns to the citizens, the children, before the cameras.
james gunn's (and david corenswet's!) superman could easily feel overly idealistic, but it's clear that his "goodness" is not a thing he is flippant about or takes lightly. he's a superhero reporter, he spends half of his days fighting evil and the other half writing about it, he's not unaware. he is hopeful and kind in the face of really scary shit because he knows that that is what being good is. he's an alien with super strength and laser eyes and yet he feels so relatable and deeply inspirational. bc at the end of the day, what is superman?
as always, he's a friend. :)
Vague Superman spoilers ahead but what does it say about movies lately that I was genuinely surprised that they beat the bad guys without some big catch or sacrifice. Like sure there little things and emotional ramifications but at the end of the day they won.
Lex even tried to do the whole “force the hero to make an impossible choice” thing and it didn’t work because Superman asked his friends for help!
Anyway I’m just obsessed with the theme of “Good can win. It may be hard and it may seem hopeless at times but with love and friendship and a radical determination to save as many people as you possibly can, good can win.”
Just came back from watching Superman and without a doubt, I have witnessed an incredible movie. The best way I can put it is that I felt like I was 5 years old again and watching Superman with stars in my eyes again.
This movie is unabashedly a love letter to comic books and over the theme of hope that is within Superman’s heart.
The flight scenes are bold in the most beautiful way. It truly felt like I was flying alongside Clark Kent and that I was in the skies with him. The angles are close up in the flight scenes and it provokes such a beautiful sense of wonder.
The ensemble cast is incredible. Everyone is perfectly casted and you can see how they fit each role perfectly. Whether big or small, each role feels lifted straight from those comic pages we grew up on.
Lex Luthor is a D1 hater in the best sense possible. I’ve never seen a villain who’s hating game is at unreachable level until Luthor. He’s angry, he’s egotistical and you can just see his hatred in every corner of his life.
This movie’s score was incredible. It’s very grandiose in a beautiful way. I could feel my theater shake from its thrum and it felt heroic. It felt like flying.
This movie is a beautiful reminder to hope. That Superman is human because of the people he was raised by and that our ability to do good is not defined by our blood, but through our actions.
It’s a reminder to help your fellow man, to remember why our humanity is our greatest strength and to strive past our uncertainty. That when everything seems scary and lost, just take another step. One by one, and believe.

god this movie was so amazing
(Superman Spoilers)
Lois Lane ragebaits Superman during an interview, pours half a container of sugar into about 4 ounces of coffee and dictates an article taking down lex luthor while driving a hovercraft. They nailed her. We are so back.
