I was at the coast on a work trip, allowed two days of ‘free time’, if you will, to wind down after a week of office work in preparation for a big offer in the market.
As apart taking advantage of being so close to the cool foamy waters of the beach, I decided what better than to go down when the sea line is basically deserted and having a sit back on the sand.
And so that’s where I was, the chilly breeze cutting through the fibres of my woollen jumper and hitting my skin, the fresh air radiating through my thoughts freeing them as well as delivering a sense of liberty. The uncomfortable feeling of the bitterly cold wet in the sand seeping through the fabric of my shorts.
Through that though, all thoughts had left my mind through the peaceful sound of the crashing waves, and the cracking and foaming of the shore each time the waves retreat.
Looking over at people who were on the rock pools leaving and calling it a day. I decided at least someone had to occupy the spot in the meantime.
I pull myself up off the damp shore brushing the sand off myself as I journeyed over to the rock pools, carefully avoiding sharp shells and barnacles that had anchored themselves on the rocks edge, waiting for the tide to eventually come back to carry them away. I avoided the sharp edges of the slate and made my way just to where the waves would crash and leap, against the rocks as the tide went in.
I let my mind wander and stared into one of the tide pools near the edge. Abruptly, the peacefulness taken away as a figure from behind grabbed me by the arm and dragged me into the ocean.
