When Ezra had heard about a certain bookshop some of his students had mentioned in class a few times, specifically about the owner, well he knew he had to check it out.
For how long he lived, Ezra stopped believing in coincidences quite a bit ago. Perhaps he could've believed it to be a coincidence were it not for the fact of how much that bookshop was brought up in conversation in his class. There evidently had to be something going on there.
Standing outside, Ezra glanced at their reflection in the window before entering, like a subtle look of 'Don't mess around'.
@every-hour-every-day
There was one person inside, standing by the register looking between two books in his hands. However, anyone who knew about the owner, could tell that this was not him.
The man inside seemed to be the same height and age but thatâs where the similarities ended. This man was white with short, wavy ginger hair. Eyes a bit too green.
Ezra squinted at the man, while pretending to be browsing the books ocassionally. Certainly didn't look like how his students described Amir, probably an employee of his then. His eyes though...
'You know what that means.'
Ezra glanced away. "Anyone can have bright green eyes, that doesn't automatically make them a Watcher." He muttered.
He picked up a book from the row he was 'looking' at, reading the title.
'He'll see right through us'.
"Shut it." He muttered again.
Ezra turned and headed to the register, with the book in hand, titled 'To the Lighthouse'.
The man put down the two books when Ezra approached. He had tried to look busy for an hour after running out of things to do, normally heâd ask Amir but he was âgone for some hoursâ and managed to keep what he was doing from the new person.
âHello there!â He smiled. âDid you find everything you wanted?â
"Yeah, I did"
Ezra placed the book down, glancing around slightly before looking at the man infront of him.
"I'm curious, is Amir here? I was hoping to speak with him."
His smile turned to a frown for a brief second. He hadnât seen Amir enter but he was aware of the Spiral avatar that came and went and was part of the mission. So not seeing him was not exactly an indication that Amir wasnât back yet. Saying âI donât knowâ might be a bit unprofessional to a customer. He didnât dare to ask the Eye for help either since the customer didnât seem fully human.
âDid you have an appointment?â He smiled again. Praying to hear Amir or any of the weird friends come back anytime soon. Preferably in the next three seconds.
"Uh, no I don't, but I heard my students talk about this place so much I thought I'd check it out and have a chat with the person who runs it."
It was better he tell the truth of why he was here than lie, though of course, he left out the part of his suspicions of possible web involvement, which he didn't have proof of yet.
"Is that going to be a problem?"
âAh. That is understandable. Yes. No. That- Hm-â
Think quick. Think quick. Lie? Lie sounds good. Twist the truth? Also good- Possibly.
âYou know. Technically I am the owner.â
Stupid stupid stupid. He should just have shut up and look for Amir. So much for trying to stay low.
"Technically?"
'Well this just got interesting.'
"I-uh, how so? I feel like they would've mentioned a second owner."
Ezra certainly didn't expect this. Maybe this supposed second owner was mentioned but he just ignored it? He wasn't sure.
âIâve been on a⌠extended⌠vacation.â
Was that too big of a lie? He hadnât been close to the shop for nearly 30 years. Or had any contact with Amir.
Fuck, he hadnât even been considered alive in the UK for so long. That wasnât a vacation. But his name was still on the official site for the shop.
"Right..."
Extended vacation wasn't an impossible reason, but how long that vacation was would probably affect what he was gonna ask.
"I should apologise, here I am asking to meet with the owner and I haven't even introduced myself. My name is Ezra Jones, what's your name?"
âDonât worry. Iâm Sam Carter.â He held his hand out.
âAnd no, Sam is not short for Samuel or anything. Itâs just Sam.â
Perhaps it would have been easier if his parents had named him something longer. Not like he was against Sam, but correcting people got irritating early.
"Sam. It's nice to meet you."
Back in the day, his name would've been considered unusual by a younger Ezra, but Ezra's since aclimated to the growing and changing modern times when he woke up in the 90's.
"Your vacation hasn't impeded any knowledge you have on the shop, I hope?"
âOh, absolutely not. I have a good memory and quite a lot of knowledge.â He chuckled before remembering to be careful.
He was about to ask Ezra something when he could hear a faint crash in the back.
âFor example, that is a concerning noise. Donât worry, Iâm sure the owner just tripped over something coming in through the backdoor.â
There was no backdoor, only a window that Sam doubted Amir could climb in through. Either way, he probably should check it out.
âOf course it could be one of the cats too. Iâll be back in just a minute.â
"No problem, take all the time you need" Ezra wasn't the most patient person, he wasn't too sure why he said that, but he'd rather wait than finding nothing out.
'I get suspicious people can have pets, but... I wanna see the cats even if there's something shady going on.'
Ezra sighed slightly. Of course they did.
Sam hurried to the back and opened the door to chaos.
Amir was sat on the floor, his right leg pulled up a bit as he pressed his hands to a spot bit under the knee, seemingly in pain. A bit to the right of him was Hunter and Thian that seemed to have fallen over each other. There was some cursing as the two tried to move from each other. Marina was apologising as she put a photo up on the wall again and Morrison sat on the desk taking it all in.
âWhat the hell happened?â Sam half whispered.
âYou have eyes to use. Get the fuck off me Thian!â
âMore powerful avatars than we thought.â Marina shrugged, backing from the wall.
âAmir?â
âItâll heal.â Amir grimaced as he pulled his hands away, a big red spot that seemed to get bigger. âCan you get me some bandages and new pair of trousers? Not sure how long itâll take.â
âIâll take you!â Morrison got up as the others said âNo!â in unison.
âShut the fuck up!â Sam whispered. âThereâs someone that wants to meet you Amir. Iâll get the things just be quiet.â
Ezra lightly tapped his fingers on the register desk as he waited. He glanced around and looked at their relfection in a close by object.
"So, what do we think so far?" He muttered.
'Of the fact we haven't met the actual owner and that Sam is a bit shady?'
"I- yeah, that."
'It's interesting. We've not been given reason to be on edge yet, but there's still every likely hood that Sam, and maybe Amir, are like us'
"And not friendly." Ezra finished Lucien's sentence.
'Exactly.'
He sighed. They really weren't a patient person.
Sam came back down a minute later. By then Hunter and Thian had moved to the tiny break room, Marina and Morrison was nowhere to be seen.
âHurry up.â Sam threw the bandages and trousers at Amir. He then hurried back to the shop.
âSo sorry about it. Amir was a bit clumsy. Give him a minute and heâll be right here. You wanted the book, right? I have time to fix that.â
"It's alright. Uh yeah, the book, of course."
Ezra glanced to where the back was.
"I hope Amir is alright, sounded like quite the crash"
He'd rather feign some concern than outright make it seem like he was suspicious of what happened.
âHeâs fine. Itâs just a mess back there. Good book choice.â
He scanned the book and put the book in a bag. Hoping he could save the mess.
"Thank you, I first read it back in 1995 and hadn't since, so I was delighted to see it here"
It was one of the first books he read after waking up, so he was quite fond of it. He took the bag and glanced around for a moment.
"So, how much longer will Amir take?"
âIâm here, sorry for the long wait.â Amir appeared by the door behind Sam.
There was no longer any blood on his clothes, he looked the same as he always did. Sam spun around, gave him a quick smile and nod to the back. He didnât say a word as he moved to the back and Amir took his previous place.
âRight. You wanted to speak with me?â

@every-hour-every-day
There was one person inside, standing by the register looking between two books in his hands.

Emilâs new year resolution is to find some physical answers. There has to be some recording or paper or photos or something about this guy - Raven
im havin somuch fun :D
đđđĽł
have you found any more info on who broke in?
Not yet. But weâre a bit closer!
Amir thinks itâs an avatar of the Eye whoâs just more powerful otherwise he probably would have known by now. This doesnât help much tho bc⌠well⌠he doesnât know any other Eye avatars except for like Elias and even then itâs more of a âoh, he does this and I met him onceâ not âOh, Iâm going to have weekly meeting with himâ

It'd been a few months since the attack at the Library, and Andrew decided to finally have a break of some kind. Sure he wasn't injured and everyone was fine, but that didn't mean things didn't change, and not entirely for the better in his opinion.
So that's how Andrew found himself outside a bookshop, one that one of Casey's friends recommended. He opened the door and walked in, glancing around as he did.
@the-fallow-library
Amir was the only worker currently in the shop. He had sent out Emil a bit earlier to take his break while there was still a tiny amount of sun outside.
âWelcome in, can I help you?â He said without a hint of hesitation. He had stopped in the middle of the shop, meant to walk towards the back. He held a grumpy looking kitten that he had just managed to get down from one of the shelves. The 12 minutes, 50 seconds he tried to get him down luckily unnoticed by anyone.
Andrew looked toward where the voice was
"Oh, uh I'm not sure. Just glancing around is all, so I don't know what I'm looking for yet."
It's been a bit hard for Andrew to know exactly what he wants for a few months now. He's just been... existing, living day to day in routine.
âRight, of course.â Amir nodded.
It was a pretty common answer, often followed by âactually, I wonât buy anythingâ as they look closer at books. He hoped it wouldnât be the case now but he held his hoped down. There was more important things happening.
âWell, if you need me for anything, Iâll be around.â He said before starting his walk to the back. âOnce I dropped this one offâŚâ
