There isnāt much there at the moment, Iāve felt lost for months. I grip on, hold tight but then I slip again. I dream of faces but theyāre not familiar. I dream of scents on shirts but theyāre not yours. I feel safe and then I feel pushed back again, why do you do this to me? There is no escape. You have the bottom of a whiskey bottle, I have my paper and pen but it consumes me. I am stuck, Iām tired and Iām tied to you. You wonder why the thought of marriage makes me nauseas, well this is why! You say āyou used to be a free soul, so wild and happy! What happened to you? ā well canāt you see⦠I was, I have been and now Iām locked from head to toe with nowhere to go. That time has passed, my eyes are heavy, my heart is weak, my arms have grown tired and my mouth canāt speak. Iām locked in this cage, and itās crushing me.

I have gotten so used to melancholia that I greet it like an old friend.

Raw with love. #bukowski
Midnight poetry. #bukowski
The flesh covers the boneĀ and they put a mindĀ in there andĀ sometimes a soul,Ā and the women breakĀ vases against the wallsĀ and the men drink tooĀ muchĀ and nobody finds theĀ oneĀ but keepĀ lookingĀ crawling in and outĀ of beds.Ā flesh coversĀ the bone and theĀ flesh searchesĀ for more thanĀ flesh. Ā thereās no chanceĀ at all:Ā we are all trappedĀ by a singularĀ fate. Ā nobody ever findsĀ the one. Ā the city dumps fillĀ the junkyards fillĀ the madhouses fillĀ the hospitals fillĀ the graveyards fillĀ nothing elseĀ fills.

We are like roses that have never bothered to bloom when we should have bloomed and it is as if the sun has become disgusted with waiting.

Charles Bukowski (1920 - 1994)
Ezra Pound, Allen Ginsberg, and Fernanda Pivano, Portofino, Italy, September 23, 1967. Pivano, Allenās friend and Italian translator, drove Allen and her husbandĀ Ettore SottsassĀ down for the day from Milan for the meeting inĀ Rapallo,Ā that was arranged by Olga Rudge. Ā PoundĀ for most part remained entirely silent except for an occasional ānoā to Allenās endless questions. After lunch they continued for coffee along the neighboring waterfront at Portofino where this photo was snapped. Photo c. Ettore Sottsass.

Understand me. Iām not like an ordinary world. I have my madness, I live in another dimension and I do not have time for things that have no soul.

āthere are worse things than being alone but it often takes decades to realize this and most often when you do itās too late and thereās nothing worse than too lateā ā Charles Bukowski
