Some pepole says/belives that Billy Joel is "the walking american songbook", and as a long time fan/Billy Joel expert i todally agree. BUT he donesnt only carring his own written book. He got plenty more books that he carries heavly on. No, i am not talking about the books he didnt realise or what he's maybe quietly writeing on these days. - What he have said before that he got new musical ideas that pops ups in his top of his head that he wakes up every day and humming/whistling out. - But i mean books from the american music roots! Beacuse what make Billy Joel unique as a musican is that he did'nt ever stay in one paticualr style and he did not have his own style. He got insporation from many driffrent musicains he loved listen to who carried/had their own repited style.

I imagion this: while he was writeing he did widely opens one book from each muscian and knew how to set it up to make it to his own music: "New York state of mind" was inspreid by Ray Charles.

"Getting Closer" was inspired by Stevie Wonder, "Uptown girl" was inspired by Frankie Vali, "This nigth" was inspired by Beethoven "Laura" was inspried by The beatles, and the hole catoly of his short living duo metall band Atilla was inspired mostly by "Led zeplin." And there is allot more songs for sure... !

A person who was a part of an eving with Billy Joel on a Q and A session asked him "how do you write so great?" (I believe), and his answer was at first that he "cleary have no idea", but his closest teory was he fougth he was scihizophernich (witch back in the day meant something else than its today. It meant a person could have split personalites), and why beacuse he had "driffent hats he put on each day". And he add "while he was working (performing, rehearsing or creating) he could feel like a complete driffrent paticular musican".

✨Billy Joel before his pre-frame rocked in a unique way. - I loved that. His sound was so different before he got more recognized or even before pepole could find his albums in the stores. What i think is that he was his own style before he notctied what sound got sold the most.

- (And he did later on experienced to creative new song in many different styles to not get borad.)

⚠️ ANYWAY - In this cut from the live event he plays something that is not one of his orginal music but used a sound in the background to express his political opinions.

🎶 The music is tuned into the song called "Red house" by Jimi Hendrix witch riffes of on the bass line (many artist used that riff in songs). And that riff fits many lyrics.

❤️ Billy Joel have told many times about how much he loved Jimi. - "I loved everything he did, in his short carrier".. - He died of a over dose 27 years old.

That song he tuned into was not only just soul, but also blusey and makes it fit to the title "All American blues". And he sings some of his political issues views right in the mic while the crowd luagth beacuse he used some metaforic and crazy ways to describe the thing he critics.

In these days (early 70s) it was a great way to express meanings by perform. And it was a way many took to do that.

⏰ After success and he started living in the spot ligth he adrims he hates pepole who used music to express their political views. And he told he would never do that him self (again). That takes the focus from the art to get attention.

And he did'nt like the idea of people paying money to hear a guys opinion, but not as much from the music. But once again!
