projects, rails, and updates
So, I've been building, Â but not posting as much as I would like. Â Let's fix that!
I'm talking to a few startups about developer positions. Â For someone like me with a fairly small (but growing!) portfolio, these conversations usually involve a demonstration of I can build.
Last weekend I worked on a Ruby on Rails project to display some crude oil forward contract trades with market pricing. Â It felt really good to use rails to solve a problem relevant to the sort of functional work I've done before. Â Â
Earlier this week, I completed a survey with some low level computer science questions about algorithm efficiency. Â These were topics that I think are taught in formal CS courses, but that I hadn't encountered before.
Fortunately, StackOverflow answers and course notes from MIT can fill in that knowledge pretty quickly.
Speaking of StackOverflow, my history of recently upvoted answers is a nice granular look at the sort of learning I've been doing.
