We had our first very hard freeze two nights ago, so the trees have brightened up considerably, and their leaves are falling more rapidly now. I’m hurrying to put the garden “to bed” for the winter, pulling out dead plants (mostly tomatoes and peppers), and mulching the blueberries & asparagus plants against the coming cold.

Now Mose Allison is gone. What a week!

Sometimes stupid laws aren't merely stupid, but tragic.  This kind of thing is heartbreaking in its frequency.

The need for more studies confirming that we’re approaching an irreversible ecological crisis, the tipping point beyond human control, is over. James Hansen, the world’s most eminent climatologist is so certain of this evidence that he’s added civil disobedience to his resistance repertoire.

A startling realization: My neighbor mono crops A few thousand acres, but I feed more people from my garden.
