id go a step further in regards to all this talk about parasocial relationships and how you can still admire celebrities and "like" them (whatever that means) without becoming obsessive. you dont actually admire or like celebrities, you attach yourself to their public image or their artwork, you dont know them, and as such you cant form an opinion on anything but their artwork or public image. any attachment to a celebrity that goes beyond "i love their work" or "theyre pretty and i like this photoshoot" is unhealthy

its extremely dangerous behavior to attach yourself to an individual in the public spotlight and make your liking them or agreeing with them an immovable aspect of your own identity. its not even about them "letting you down" by doing something problematic eventually, even if they literally are the best person in the world who has done no wrong, this is still foundationally unhealthy behavior. this applies to literally every possible figure. musicians, directors, philosophers, poets, writers, whatever, if you want to feel an actual sense of belonging and connection with another person, im sorry but youre going to have to put in actual work to forge relationships with people you actually know.

public figures are PROJECTIONS.  even the most ‘real’ and sincere celebrity is filling a role when they interact with the public. Even the most genuine person, is projecting an image during an interview, convention, panel, or public appearance.
