[ acquaintances // jung yonghwa, bae suji ]
(/ The guy was somewhere around the main street that now was crowded with people. It was fun to see people around so happy and he quite got distracted. As he kept on walking around, of course something like that would happen: he bumped into someone. A girl. He could feel the moment his can escaped from his hand and the liquid landed on the girl’s clothes ) "I’m sorry" (/ He had to say something else, he figured out, but he didn’t know what ) "I wasn’t looking where I was going, are you okay?"
[ ´ everything around her suddenly just stops as she walks into what seems like a wall, but naturally turns out to be just an unfamiliar male. the cold sensation running down her left leg, however, is horribly familiar. oh, she's always the victim of these things ] oh no, don't worry, it's alright really — but eh, what's the.. [ ´she places a hand on the fabric covering her leg — and yes, it's wet and uncomfortable but she just laughs and tries to shake it off without physically shaking ] i'm alright, just, what is this? like, what were you — eh, drinking?
work hard, play hard : green tea festival
[ ´ making her way in, through, and around the crowd that occupies the entire main street turns out to be more challenging than she'd ever expected: she criss-crosses around, zigzaging around weird kids, under the hand holding arms of couples. constantly mumbling half-hearted apologies, lame greetings, and even waving from time to time: it's like meeting the entire school, their siblings, and their parents. nothing new about any of it, really. ] I'll just.. go through.. wait — [ ´ she only realizes that she's lost her gang once she reaches a clearer area; but unwilling to look confused and thus embarrass herself as some random lonely girl, she goes about towards the games, that should be somewhere around here, in order to find someone to bother for a while ]
Yoona unnie! [ ´ she calls out the name daringly, without being completely sure that it is indeed the friend-of-a-friend person she's been introduced to once or twice. when closing up by the other's side, she lets out a relieved sigh ] Ah, it's you! I didn't really know, I just lost my way and thought I'd come here. Honestly, there are too many people out right now — oh, are you winning? [ ´ looks toward the game the other seems focused on, and decides that there's no point trying to figure it out for herself, and just relies on Yoona for result ] I've never seen this before, really... Unnie, where are your friends?
suji and jongin go to the circus: tales from the tea festival
And someday, I will be just as wonderful as your Eunhyuk-oppa. You’ll be so proud of me [ / he brushes off the intended insult- someday Suji would see Jongin’s true greatness and then she’d wonder exactly why she’d ever laughed at him ] Ohhhhhh Suji, Suji, Suji, one does not have to be drunk to enjoy the little moments in life. One must simply have joy in their heart. Tell me Miss Suji, do you have joy in your heart, or are you always this cynical?
[ / nods knowingly, though what he’s being knowing about is anyone’s guess- he’s never been captain of soccer or any other team ] It must be very hard for you to ever have fun with such a prestigious title to maintain. [ / grins, once again taking the insult in stride- Suji couldn’t possibly be disappointed in Kim Jongin, surely she was just teasing ] You can call me anticlimactic all you want, but [ / holds up a finger between the two of them to make a point ] at the end of the day, you didn’t do a trick either [ / taps the end of her nose before letting his hand drop, resting his arm on top of his knee ] We’re cut from the same cloth, you and I [ / raises an eyebrow and leans in a bit closer, meeting he challenge ] Or do you happen to have some non-anticlimactic party trick you’ve been hiding from me all this time?
[ ´ raises an eyebrow and shoots Jongin a questioning look when he talks about 'your eunhyuk oppa', because even though they might not be that close, she'd still expect him to know her bias ] You know I don't like Eunhyuk at all? Don't you know my bias...es? Now I'm really disappointed. [ ´ tries to keep a straight face even as Jongin goes about being goofy, but ends up letting out a confused laugh as he boops her nose — quite unexpected, and she can't help but smile afterwards, even as she crosses her arms defiantly ] You want me to do a trick? Say something I can actually do then. Be realistic, yeah? [ ´ almost mentions not being drunk enough for any of this, but decides not to, and just sighs and adjusts her position instead ]
I'm not hiding anything! Are you accusing me of something? [ ´ leans back so that she's resting her back against the tree, which isn't the most comfortable place to lean on, and rolls her eyes ] I thought you were a cool city boy — do you really think we're the same? [ ´ pauses for a moment and nods slowly to herself ] If you were better at soccer, then maybe.

suji and jongin go to the circus: tales from the tea festival
If that’s who I think it is, he chugged half a soju bottle twenty minutes ago [ / Jongin squints at the unfortunate, probably drunk person, as if that will help him see better in the dark, but it doesn’t do much and he’s quick to give up that endeavor ] Oh… well, the good news is he made it, but… [ / winces ] the bad news is I don’t think he can un-make it… shit, he’s probably sterile now [ has to take a moment to collect himself because the sympathetic pain is far too great, but he’s fine again after a deep breath or two ]
[ / Looks down at Suji ] Am I drunk enough to do a split? [ / laughs because he has all the flexibility of a paraplegic ladybug, but Suji doesn’t have to know that. Jongin deflects. ] Suji, does Eunhyuk-hyung even do the splits? It’s not something we men are meant to do. [ / clears his throat all manly-like ] I can do a finger split though, see? [ / pokes Suji on the top of the head with his index and middle fingers of his free hand, and then does the finger splits on top of her head before realizing this isn’t useful at all ] Oh wait, you can’t see that- [ / leans down a bit further and does the finger splits on top of her knee ] Ta-dah~ [ / is slightly offended that she doesn’t just know, but brushes off the feeling and grins instead ] Why yes I am, thanks for noticing [ / crouches down to sit on his heels, a bit closer to her eye-level- suddenly remembers his beer when he feels the bottle clunk against the ground. Takes a swig of the now warm-ish, not-quite-as-exciting-as-it-was-before drink ] Can you do a split? You’re a girl, girls do splits. It makes sense.
Eunhyk oppa does a lot of things.. [ ´ she pauses for effect and nods in his direction, kind of implying that Jongin's apparent lack of party tricks should be considered a significant flaw in his persona. ] What can you even do? That's a scissor, why do you even — [ ´ looks at Jongin's alleged 'finger split', which really is just a variation of finger scissors, with a grin, and that same laughter which untalented kids hear from their parents when they try to do something they evidently cannot do very well ] Are you really that drunk? Ah, all my hopes of party tricks wasted on a drunk science student showing me scissors.
[ ´ glares at him following that comment about the split, and she thinks that maybe he is unaware of what kind of athlete she is; maybe he's just optimistic — but she awkwardly changes position, crossing her legs so she's in tailor position, and looks at him disapprovingly. still smiling though, regardless of his intentions ] Yah, I'm the captain of the soccer team. I don't do that kind of stuff. [ ´ cocks her head to the side, still looking at him with a smile, though with a more satisfied look on her face this time ] Is it disapointing? Now you know how I feel about you. [ ´ looks around a bit, gaze flickering back and forth at Jongin, who's smiling like an idiot, the bottle in his hand, which doesn't strike her thirst-inducing in any way, and at the crowd, where she sets her eyes for a while. she leans somewhat closer toward him, still vacant and fairly quiet ] You're very anticlimactic, that's what I'm saying.
Lifting his head, it took him a second of looking at Suji for his stomach to drop to his knees. He hadn’t even been there for a minute and he’d already fucked up. How? He had no idea, he was magical that way. So while she talked and approached, Jongdae felt a stupid look morph across his face as his fingers occupied themselves with petting the bunny. He was missing a very important piece of the puzzle here.
Standing up, his hackles raised with him, “One, you invited me over here.” He turned to unhook his toolbox, “And two, I don’t hit animals.” What spare time hung off the tip of his tongue, but he held it back. People didn’t need to know how much he worked for how little money he had.
“I’m not going to be mean about it.” He shrugged off the mood and followed Suji further into the yard, stopping as soon as he saw the reason he was invited over. An eyebrow lifting slightly in mild disapproval and irritation of knowing this was a ridiculous easy repair and not the crisis he was expecting to heroically fix; he placed his toolbox beside the mess and pulled his gloves out of his back pocket.
Hopefully the contrast between his asshole behaviour at school and his getting down to business demeanour wasn’t too stark, but work was work and he took it seriously. “I’m just going to screw it back on,” Wiggling a loose board he added, “And tighten this up.” Taking out his power drill, it was a matter of minutes before everything was done and the rabbit mansion was back in perfect shape and able to stand. “If it comes out again, just put the screws back in with a screw driver. Phillips- the star one.”
Suji just watched Jongdae as he fixed everything: when he was doing it, it seemed so incredibly simple and uncomplicated, while she couldn't even touch the boards without gloves thicker than the walls themselves, because splinters loved her for some awful, horrible reason. It was what it was, afterall. Jongdae didn't have troubles like that, and even if he did, he didn't show anything. Not to say that her jaw had dropped upon seeing the house restored to its full glory, but the stupidly excited grin on her face really was no joke.
"You know I love it when you talk tools with me.." Of course, the only way to make sure that everything had been done properly (not that she doubted him, but still.) was to look at it at approximately .5 distance, system of measurement unspecified, but to summarize it: pretty damn close. About as close as she could get without having to touch the wood. She had to stand up from her crouching next to the rabbit house, slowly and with a quiet groan, as she felt her knees locking into place. "Star one as in star one, the number, or star one as in the one with the star?"
Of course, there were many things to ask now, and rather than just addressing all the matters on her mind, she went with the questions she thought, and would also hopefully in his mind, be of some importance, however relevant: "Really, I don't understand how you expect me to do that as well as you do — but really, thank you. I wouldn't want to be responsible for Park Jeong Su becoming homeless during the best time of his life."
Suji looked at the rabbit, who seemed to be completely unaffected by the intense fixing that was going on. She couldn't help but to sigh when she looked at him, and the content smile stayed on her lips even when she looked back at Jongdae, though he was neither 2 nor no longer at risk of becoming homeless. "Park Jeong Su is his full name, if you forgot. Some people forget on purpose — you know Bomi? She doesn't even acknowledge his existence. Weird, right? But I think both he and I owe you one."
suji and jongin go to the circus: tales from the tea festival
[ / It’s late and it’s dark and it’s long past everyone’s bedtime; naturally most of the adults of Cha-ri have cleared out and left the kids to their fun. It’s Jongin’s second-ever tea festival (that he can remember, anyway- he probably went before he moved to the city and just forgot) and he feels like an expert now. Crowds of teenagers form around any available light source like moths to porch lights; Jongin finds himself slightly drunk and caught up in a small crowd (some more and some less drunk than he is) gathered around a campfire. What started as storytelling turned into stunt-performing until the evening dissolved into a display of who can do the most impressive party trick. Jongin hangs back around the edge of the circle with Suji, quietly commentating on the events, holding a beer he’s entirely forgotten he has in his hand and leaning against a tree trunk ] It seems as if we’re about to get an acrobatic show! [ / his voice is animated, but low enough that only Suji can hear- he’s far too cool to participate but he doesn’t exactly want the whole world to know he’s laughing at it, either ] The econ kids aren’t exactly known for their athletecism but- ohoho, he’s going for a split! Will he make it, will he make it???
[ ´ without taking her eyes off the impressive showdown that's going on in front of them, she laughs at his comments — sure, the econ kids might not be kids nor very stereotypically uptight, but this is far beyond what she expected from them; they're not very technically advanced, but at least they're doing something, unlike herself and Jongin. ] Will he make it? I don't know — if he's drunk enough, he might.. [ ´ she can't help but to note that a split might not be the best party trick to pull when you're wearing shorts, even if they're guy length, but she's not one to judge. she spends her time trying to see over the heads of the people in front of them, to see if he made it or not — it's hard to tell, mostly because the audience of about 25 people screams in excitement both when people fail and when they make it. he did something, that's for sure. ] Did you see anything?
[ ´ she looks up towards Jongin, who's leaning against a stable looking tree — incidentally the very same tree she's leaning against, the main difference being that she's sitting down. ] Now, the real question is, and be honest — are you drunk enough for a split? [ ´ nods, looking at the beer in his hand, which might be his first or fifth for all she knows; what she knows is that she's never seen Jongin do a split, nor has she ever seen him as the kind of guy that would do a split, drunk or not. ] Or are you just gonna sit there like a living example of the tremendous lack of flexibility found in the science kids? I don't mind either alternative. [ ´ considers nudging his leg, but stops mid-elbowing and frowns slightly in confusion ] You're in science, right?
Morning Announcements || Suji and Eunji
Eunji was of course, by the later part of the day, more calm than she had been earlier about the whole leak situation. She was prone to outbursts like that, so it wasn’t all that surprising that she had done so, or that she was now much more level headed about it. She was often someone who just needed to let things make their way out of her system, no matter how loudly and violently they came out.
She always like walking home with Suji, the other girl being someone she spent a lot of time with what with them being classmates, teammates, and Eunji being a part of the Super Junior Fanclub that Suji ran. Plus, Suji was friends with Eunji’s best friend, Bomi, so that just added to it. Eunji’s bias in SuJu certainly wasn’t Leeteuk like the other’s was, but she at least respected him as leader of the boys. She was more in favor of the maknae, Kyuhyun. She loved everything about him, so they at least could talk peacefully about it.
She knew, just knew, that her friend was going to bring up the morning announcements. Aside from a few ties she grew a little passionate about things, for the most part, on most days, Eunji handled the broadcast professionally. It was something she hoped to maybe turn into a career someday. “Ehhhh…I’m better now.” she laughed, albeit a bit sheepishly. She refused to let it embarrass her fully though. “I might have overreacted. And of course no one gave me any information. I’m not sure what I was thinking, to be honest, Suj”. She looked over at the girl walking next to her “What did you think about it?”
Better now was a good response: it had some hopefulness to it. Like things were going to continue together better until they were capital G Good, and that, in Suji's mind, was a positive outcome to an impossibly annoying situation. She hadn't really expected any less of Eunji, but hearing it made it more real and relevant. Sure, Suji wasn't one to spazz out over things like these, but they still got to her. It was nice to hear that people were getting over it.
It wasn't the end of the world, it probably wasn't the end of anything. In the heat of the moment, it was easier to overreact than it was to stay calm. Suji wasn't going to blame anyone for not sharing her ability to remain calm and collected even when things seemed to be caving down. Truth be told, it was not always in acceptance; at times, it was just frustration. She gave up on being mad and let it go, because she wanted to change things but she couldn't.
"I don't think it was too bad.. It was expected, don't you think? I mean, we're known as crazy fangirls, surely most people would have been expecting this kind of reaction, right?" Suji chose to not worry about it, because, really, would anyone even expect anything but a blaze of panic and anger? She was an exception, but she didn't exactly enjoy being treated like one. "I mean, if I was angry and I had a chance to rant to the entire school, I probably would."
"Really Eunji, I don't know why I'm so cool with this." She stopped walking abruptly, turning towards her friend with a bothered expression on her face; her shoulders slumping, and languidly kicking away a nearby rock for no particular reason. "It's like, everyone tells me Hey Suji, this happened! And I'm like okay! and that's usually it! I don't know why. Does it bother you?"

It was more than sad how quickly his thumbs punched away a response to the first text; how he had to tell his stomach to stop churning with anticipation and how he completely forgot to dry his hair after his shower. He’d lost count of how many times Suji rendered him a fumbling mess of embarrassment and awkwardness, making him get war flashbacks of the beginnings of puberty. At least he didn’t have acne anymore.
Jongdae knew schoolyard crushes were for romantic comedy leads or shojo manga heroes, meaning the completely opposite kind of guy like himself. He was the b-line story, the sarcastic sidekick with great hair and no other purpose than to get a laugh when the story was in a lull. Suji was the girl, not a girl the girl, the one b-line story characters were lucky to be in the same panel with. It’d be like if Sailor Moon ignored Tuxedo Mask to date his cousin. Yet here he was, Tuxedo Mask’s cousin thinking that maybe this time he had a shot.
And then she told him to bring a hammer.
Right, he was Tuxedo Mask’s useful cousin. So he had a shot at fixing her sink.
The bike ride was spent mainly berating himself for getting his hopes up and partially almost running into many different things and barely saving himself from a wipeout. Every moment he got closer to Suji’s house, Jieun’s voice rang in the back of his head – for some reason his brain defaulted to her for nagging and it was infuriating – reminding him of just how pathetic it was that he had just dropped everything for a chance, a maybe, a slight possibility, that today Suji would miraculously see how he wasn’t a complete weasel and maybe become head over heels in love with him.
It wasn’t going to happen, he wasn’t Tuxedo Mask, if he was any anime protagonist he would be Shinji Ikari and that’s just horrifying.
Too busy being mortified over how Jieun would be Rei Ayanami and all that implies, Jongdae didn’t notice that he was passing Suji’s house until he was a block away, forcing him to double back. Wanting to put his bike away before knocking, he slipped into the backyard and almost jumped out of his skin when a rabbit brushed against his leg. Leaning against the fence to gather himself, he peered down at the pet and adjusted his glasses, “You’re lucky I didn’t kick you.” He dropped to a couch to gently run his fingers through soft fur, “It’s a good thing you’re cute.”
When Jongdae arrived, he arrived with a bang. Only it wasn’t really a bang as much as a disheartening thump; before she’d even greeted him, he’d already asserted his violent, threatening dominance over Park Jeong Su, who had done nothing to deserve such hoarse treatment. But then again, it was not completely unexpected. Suji could never get her head around how and why Park Jeong Su had become one of the most hated non-human people in Cha-ri. And she could also not understand why Jongdae, out of all the people, had to agree with the premise that Park Jeong Su had to be treated without any regard to the affection she held for him. He deserved better, he really did. She marched out of the house, where she’d gone to fetch something to drink (though that idea has been abandoned once she heard Jongdae moving around her garden.), and stared at him as she tried to estimate the distance between her and the stairs; once she was done with that, she took the three steps in one leap, without her gaze wavering once.
“Kim Jongdae! Out of all the things you may do, like drop into my backyard later than you should be allowed to be, you may. Not—” She paused once she stood next to him, crouching to pick up the rabbit that seemed to be very oblivious to the tension around him and his existence. She held cradled aforementioned pet in her arms protectively, like a mother would; only stopping the gentle back-and-forth rocking action to continue the conversation. “Ever. In. My. Presence. Hit. A. Mammal. Not ever. You have no right. What you do in your spare time is not my responsibility, but in my backyard…” She turned away from him, taking a few steps and then releasing Park Jeong Su onto the grass at a safer distance. After watching him hop away in bliss, Suji turned back towards Jongdae and looked at him with playful scorn, but she was still smiling. “You abide by my rules. And here, everyone loves each other and there is, and will be, peace.”
Now seemed like a good time to bring up Bomi’s weasel argument, but Suji believed he was painfully aware of the nickname he had been given. No hitting mammals if you’re a weasel; that was the point. No hitting anything if you’re a Jongdae and you’re there to help. “Anyway, I’m glad you could find it within your heart to take time off your anime watching to help me with — ehh..” She nodded towards the wooden mess that was the rabbit cage. She’d just sort of left it there and then, probably due to the unbeneficial position it had landed in, things started to fall apart. “You’re not allowed to be mean about this. You’re not.” She stopped again, to watch him as he looked toward the sad, crumbled, once inhabitable living area of Park Jeong Su. She really couldn’t help but to grin at it herself, because it was kind of stupid. “If you laugh, I’ll leave.”
But the afternoon sun was still warm, throwing lovely shadows through the framework of the trees onto the lawn; and there was still a familiar, hushed splashing from the river humming along in the background. Maybe everything wasn’t lost and miserable, even though the future was looking bleak for Park Jeong Su’s two-story villa which had been lovingly destroyed by his loving owner.
To be frank, Yixing still wasn’t quite sure why he had ventured out to the occupied fields. While he was far from a sports fan in any sense, the teen held a particular dislike for the game of soccer. Fast-paced and captivating for some, he simply found it tedious—a game without strategy, without reason. And such a free-for-all gave him a headache more than anything else.
Yet there he remained, an outlier among the crowd of close-knit groups huddled along the sidelines. In this kind of a setting, it was painstakingly obvious that he was without companion; but somehow, it was less mortifying to stay put than to make the long (dare he say, pathetic) walk back to the main building all on his own.
Which then presented the real struggle of the day: how to endure the entire practice without wanting to claw his eyes out. Overall, he’d been managing relatively well with cell phone games and messages to his friends back home. And, quite frankly, if he put his mind to it, he might have managed to go for more than the usual hour allotted for practice (he was getting mighty close to 2048).
But even torture had its end and Yixing was quick to perk up as the crowd began to disperse, leaving him with two options: he could trickle out with the other students—making himself vulnerable to interactions he’d much rather avoid—or he could take his time, wait it out and tag onto the end of the group, thus creating the illusion of relation with none of the commitment.
The latter, of course, was right up the teen’s alley and with his bag slung lazily over a single shoulder, he idled on the sidelines, glancing over his shoulder every now and then in muted determination — he had to do this just right.
Careful in his timing, meticulous in his form, Yixing turned on his heel just as the last groups made their way off the field, ready to join them — that is, until an unfamiliar voice snared his attention. Then the teen had no choice but to freeze, jerking just slightly in surprise before turning to face the source of the voice.
Initial hopes had him praying that the stranger was talking to someone else; but upon facing her and meeting her eye, he realized he would not be so lucky. He’d seen this girl around many times before; a staple member of the Boseong High community, as far as he could tell. And having anyone converse with him was nerve-racking, let alone her. So her words were met by persistently averted gaze (eyes flickering up to hers in forced etiquette for only a few seconds before they were drawn elsewhere) and a stilted nature to his speech.
"I…I’m new." Well, that was easy enough. As long as she kept the conversation simple, he would be good — accent aside, of course. "Yes…and yes. You play…good."
Upon hearing his accent, and judging by his rather hushed way of speaking, it didn’t take much to realize that he was a foreigner. That probably meant that he was a boarding student, since you really didn’t see a lot of foreign families settling down in Cha-ri. She wondered why he’d stayed to watch them practice, because as far as she was concerned, no one in the small group of borders was especially involved or interested in sports, except for the ones with scholarships. He didn’t really strike her as an overseas genius right then and there, but who was she to judge? Suji just laughed –not too much, not too little and no too demeaning— at his awkward way of speaking, and brushed it aside with a, this time around, surprisingly, honest smile in his direction.
“Ah, you think I did well? That’s so nice of you..” It really was nice of him; in these times of games with little support from both the audience and coaches, the encouragement was needed. Though it was not wasn’t the most creative and encouraging compliment she’d gotten, and if he thought she played well, she was smart enough to just leave it at that. Besides, even if she wanted details, she probably wouldn’t get any even if she asked. Not to condescend his verbosity, but communication would probably not reach any advanced levels between them – at least not today. She could save her social ambition for when it was needed, and could make a difference. “Do you play too?”
Standing there, waiting for rain or whatever, was getting kind of trite and she was cold. When sweat dried, it felt like ice setting in. She still liked to think she looked somewhat presentable, but she wasn’t at her best. But then again, no one could possibly be expecting her to look any better than she did. She just kept smiling silently, tucking a few stray strands behind her ears as she looked over the empty field. When the sky was without clouds, or just one big cloud (she wasn’t really sure what to believe.) it really did look like just empty space – which was rare in Boseong, because normally there were at least birds or trees or kids running around. But now, there was nothing. “Anyway, we should probably get going. Don’t you think it’s cold?”
Suji took a few, slow steps in the direction of the school, waiting for him to understand the hint in case he hadn’t been able to understand his words. It was a possibility, and she’d rather be too careful than to have him flustered – though it wasn’t impossible that confusion had already settled in between them. But she waited for him, still smiling, still searching for signs of comprehension.
Miss A’s Suzy for Beanpole ♥︎
etudé and attitude
Considering Suji's lack of interest in makeup and all things dressy like that, it was rare for her to find herself inside the local Etudé House, and even rarer for her to be there alone. However, the fundamental difference between this particular visit and every single visit she had ever done to this establishment was that, for once, she was intending to purchase something. Nothing much, evidently, but still important. Suji did not take birthdays likely, and thought of birthday gifts as being some kind of symbol for the friendship. Jieun's birthday was especially important, because it was Jieun's birthday.
And so, she wandered around the store for a few minutes in complete confusion because she did not know what half of the stuff on the shelves even did. While some of the things belonging to the 'known' the other half sort of made sense, most of them seemed completely arbitrary. There seemed to be cremes for literally every occasion, and more shades of foundation than she could imagine were on the actual palette of skin colors. But she wasn't going to argue: this, if anything, was not her area of expertise.
Eventually she gave up. Suji was tired, and her eyes kind of hurt on the hands of the screeching yellow lighting inside the store, and most of all, she wanted to go home. So, after another few minutes spent walking around, almost apathetic, she finally managed to locate someone who might be of help. After tapping their shoulder, and nodding in acknowledgement of their returned attention in their general direction, she started talking: her voice was more convincing and intense than it usually was, though she didn't really understand why.
"Okay so, I have a thing I need help with and uh —" she cut herself off with a silent laugh, running her fingers through her hair as she thought diligently about where to put her hands. "I'm buying a gift for a friend and this is not... really.. my field. So I was just wondering what like.. If I was to buy — Like, what are the most popular things people buy as gifts?"
Perhaps she wouldn't earn any points for individual thinking and creativity for taking on this task, but she was more than deserving of acknowledgement for her selfless and sacrificial act of entering a store where all things were said to help you become a better you. That, or any variation of the phrase. She didn't hold anything against people who were into this, she really didnt, she just couldn't for the life or her understand their reasoning.
It even smelled like girl, beige, and new converse in here.
So normally there wasn't much of a crowd present at the soccer practices. Naturally, there were small groups of girls standing around to watch the boys run around in their alleged sweaty glory (which Suji found to be completely unappealing and not at all attractive, truth be told.) but with girls...The excitement wasn't really there.
That was, of course, only the case until Suji made the game dates public and suddenly there was a small interest in seeing how well the girls were going to be able to defend the school glory. Suji was not entirely convinced of the existence of aforementioned glory, but she let it slide. It was nice to have an audience, even though she evidently embarrassed herself from time to time.
Her ambition would be her way to victory, and also her downfall, they said. And she agreed as much as you can agree with a statement like that while you're tumbling forward through empty space toward absolution and/or a teammates leg. Either way, she stood up each time, laughed and brushed it off, looked around with one of those 'whaddaya know' looks, and then kept running. That went on for about an hour until everyone started complaining and she called it off.
Now, since she was the team leader, she took it upon herself to talk to everyone after the practice, to make sure that everyone still had their mind set on victory and whatever. Some people were still standing around, probably waiting for friends, and they did not look to interested in what she had to say, even though she liked to think that what she said held some importance in the context. It was subjective, she excused them with: at least they came to look.
So when everything was said and done and most people had started walking back towards the school, the one person who remained caught her interest. Mainly because he didn't conform to the getting-home-as-fast-as-possible norm, and also because she didn't really recognize him. She'd seen him before, of course; one could not live in Boseong hoping to see new faces often. But she hadn't talked to him before, and that made him somewhat interesting, albeit she was more focused on the fact that she needed to tie her shoes as she walked in his direction, stopping just by his side.
"I haven't seen you at our practices before." she started, quite unsure of what to make of the fact that, as she had realized once she saw his face, they had never so much as communicated. At least as far as Suji was concerned: of course there was room for mistakes and mishaps within her memory, but it seemed improbable and irrelevant. "Did you come to see if you think we can win next week? If so, do you think we have a chance?"
Her gaze flickered back and forth from him, the field, her shoes, him, the fields, him, shoes, and it went on like that for a while until she settled on maintaining eye contact. Suji wasn't really smiling in the excited, happy sense of the word, but rather in the kind of obligatory way, when she really didn't have anything else to express than just standard politeness. There were so many things to consider, like the fact that she was still wearing the horrendously unflattering shirt she'd vowed not to wear unless the weather was like it was that day: grey, uneventful, humming consistently somewhere beyond the mountains.

So obviously Suji hadn't thought this through thoroughly before she attempted it: had seemed logical to just lift the rabbit cage up, with Park Jeong Su waiting in safety, tied to one of the poles of the fences that surrounded the garden, but that was past tense, because she had been proven wrong. In reality, her theory did not work as planned.
The floor of the little house-like home fell out once she'd taken three steps in the direction she wished to take it. For a second or so, she hadn't really done anything. Just stood there, looking at the floor as it lay on the grass. Of course, nothing actually happened as a direct result of those minutes spent inert, but she hadn't honestly expected it to anyway.
So, once she had accepted her defeat, carefully put the cage down again, and walked over to Jeong Su where he sat in the shade, and then sat down with him in shame, she texted Jongdae. He'd responded moments later, and after a brief, digital exchange, he had announced that he was on his way. Suji wasn't going to tell him to hurry up, because she didn't really have to and he was probably in a hurry anyways. Very ambitious.
She just sat there in the shade on her porch, the rabbit sniffling around in the grass just below where her legs touched the ground. Quite relaxing, quite defeatist. Her brother was out doing whatever, her dad was working, and her mom was either working or sleeping - she was of no help regardless. Hell, if she could fix this herself, she would. Luckily, she didn't have to try. But she would save her gratitude for when it was actually done.
Every time the sound of steps could be heard, she stood up, walked over to see if it was him but it never was. To be honest, if he had been there the first time she'd heard the sound of walking and talking and whatnot outside, he would have had to travel at supersonic speed, which she knew for a fact that he was not capable. He had many advantages still, in spite of this obvious flaw. He was saving her from potential splinters just by agreeing to help, wasn't he?
Perhaps not as chivalrous as she thought he imagined himself to be, but still benevolent to some extent. She eventually stopped running like an excited dog after every sound she heard, and instead seated herself so that she was looking around the corner, waiting for him to make his way from the front of the house to the backyard. He would know she was there, and if he didn't he would surely come to the conclusion once he realized she wasn't elsewhere.
