James asks which one does she think he is, and Miranda replies that he seems someone good at managing how he is perceived and getting what he wants without others noticing. She then hesitates and James teases to continue, leading Miranda to say that James might be more concerned about people talking about what they might do behind closed doors than about what they might actually do. Miranda comments that in her experience, “there is an inverse relationship between the degree of one’s happiness and the concern one suffers for what the neightbors think.”, and James questions what would Thomas think. She states that she loves her husband, and that neither of them are bothered by the rumours about her infidelities. Then, she approaches James, getting in his personal space with the pretense of grabbing the cape she took off when she arrived, and tells him that the important question is whether they bother him.
