Rain of Brass Petals

Part of her wanted to reach out and pat his shoulder gently when he tensed up at a certain student students name. She must be exhausting to be around, not that she isn’t a nice person or anything! Just can be a bit intense and she’s heard she sometimes, or quite often? Has items she’s made blow up not long after testing them out.

“I’m sure her heart is in the right place, right?” Leia smiled a bit, doubting she meant to hurt anyone with her inventions and coming off quite strongly. Just she was so passionate about her work and couldn’t help it, that was the feeling she got anyway. “That’s still really amazing though!” She smiled widely, he could make anything he wanted out of metal, whatever he could think of she bets.

“I have an amplification quirk, I can double the strength of someone’s quirk by default. Only after physically touching them though, as it gives me a better understanding that persons quirk and energy.” Although he didn’t ask her what her quirk was, she felt it would be rude if she didn’t tell him in return.

  “Yeah, but... it’s still nervewracking to work in the same room as her, even with her good intentions in mind. It’s even worse working with her on the same project given how... explosion prone... her creations are. Apologies if that sounds a bit mean.” Ren closed the opened manga before him, setting the book aside to focus fully on the conversation between the two of them.

       Oh good! Someone was here! It resulted in her laughter before clapping her hands- “Ah! So I wasn’t talking to dead air! Yay!” Kyu hummed before offering her hand, “I’m Kyu~! It’s nice t’meetcha! But to the matter at hand…” Once her hand had been shaken she placed her hero costume on the table in front of her.

            “You’re actually the perfect person to talk to- Since you work with metal, you know good electricity conductors, yeah?”

  She was a jovial one... it took a moment to register everything, handshake included, though the placement of her hero costume on the table between them was enough to refocus his attention.

Leia frowned slightly a moment when he mentioned about people tending to take it out on him, rather than owning up to their mistake. Sounded like it happened so often he was sounded almost used to it, no wonder he seemed so surprised when offering to help him. “I’m sorry that seems to happen more than not for you.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Koizumi.” She beamed, glad to meet another friendly student in UA, not that all of them weren’t friendly of course! “Oh..! Your in the same class as Hatsume? I’ve only interacted with her a few times, she is very passionate about what she creates, even if she can be a bit too intense sometimes.” She chucked lowly, and soon smiled brightly again once he mentioned his quirk. “Oh that is really amazing! Does that mean you have a metal manipulation quirk?”

  He could say something in response, yet he knew delving into that can of worms would do little more than make him sound like complaining. Some things were just better left unsaid. “It’s a pleasure to meet you as well, Akihito.”

        “Hellooo~?” A knock on the support class’ lab before sticking her head into the room and waving her hand- “Is anyone here?”

               “I have a request or…two if y’all wanna take this on?” It was more of a ‘please help me I need assistance’- why else would she have her hero costume in it’s case and in her hands.

  The metalsmith hurriedly sat the sheet of thinly-hammered steel aside on the table, knocking over a cup of drafting pencils in the process before he scooted himself into view. He’d clean that up once he had the lab to himself again. Right now, ‘work’ came first.

Leia followed after him making sure to set the books she had taken from him onto the table neatly. Not completely sure in what order, if they had one yet that is? Since he might be waiting to do so after setting them all down. 

She did notice the table having what appeared to be writing supplies already set up there, seconds before he ended up hiding it behind the books he sets down anyway. How strange… was he trying to hide it? If so what for?

“No problem at all” Leia beamed at the other student. “It was still the least I could do for bumping into you.” Which she still felt quite bad about, even if it had been an accident. “Oh..! I’m Akihito Leia, I’m in class 1-B.” She was so worried about helping him and to make up for almost making him dropping his books, she almost forgotten to introduce herself.

  The stack of books wasn’t in any sort of order or pattern nor did the smith plan on reading them in any specific order beyond the reading pattern of each series. Following and studying the arcs was the only thing that mattered for today.

  “Most I know would’ve got mad and taken it out on me rather than try to make up for it...” He took one from the pile, cracking it open to observe its content the moment he took a seat in one of the chairs.

Leia watched him carefully while waiting for him to reply, also getting ready to catch any possible falling books from his arms. Was he going to read all of these, or was he going to read some of them after narrowing it down?

No matter the reason, he did give her the okay to help him carry some of the books to a table. Possibly also filled with other books he was looking at.

“I’ll take some from the top. Hold still for a second, okay?” She carefully took four books from him, while also making sure not to accidently knock over the other books in his arms. “There we go, now which way are we going? I’ll follow you.”

  He wasn’t exactly expecting her take almost half his stack after he gave her the go-ahead. Sakurako knew better than to look a gift horse in the mouth though, so it was best to let it be. Maybe he should take multiple trips next time...

  Regardless of what he thought, the smith led the way to the mostly-empty table he’d picked, setting the stack of mixed paperback and hardcover manga down close to his writing supplies. No doodles or illustrations yet nor anything written down thankfully, which left the ameture mangaka with a plethora of excuses if she asked why he grabbed so many books.

  Now if only he was a good liar.

She felt terrible for walking into someone, at least the books in his arms didn’t end up tumbling down onto the floor. As far as she could tell at this very moment, although if some had fallen at the start she would’ve immediately moved to help gather them up.

“I’m alright and um… do you need some help bringing these to a table? It’s the least I could do after bumping into you and it is quite a few books you have in your arms, ah! I didn’t make any fall did I?” Leia quickly glanced at the floor to double check if maybe some did, and she just didn’t hear or see them fall. 

Thankfully no other books were scattered around the pairs feet, she sighed lowly in relief before glancing back up at the boy standing in front of her. “Please allow me to help you.”

  He was lucky. She seemed to be one of the more pleasant students despite this little accident. It took no small stretch of the imagination to think up several people from around the campus that would flip this whole thing back on him.

  He would’ve looked with her for any that may have fallen to the floor, had he not started using his chin to hold the stack steady. Maybe he shouldn’t have taken so many manga copies off the shelves. But up until this point, he was enthusiastic to delve deep into researching the works of others for his own tales.

It was really nice that the library in UA was so big, not just in size but also in various types of books. Today however she was going to check out the manga section to possibly find a new series to read, when she had some downtime of course.

Slowly she browsed the shelves to find something she might me interested in, eventually picking up what looked like a magical girl manga. Wait… this one looked familiar, where did she see this before?

Leia furrowed her brows slightly, trying to remember where exactly she might have seen it. Did someone in her class show it to her once, or maybe it had been Izuku?

While lost in thought, she ended up turning around and bumping into someone, letting out a low surprised sound when she did. Almost dropping the book she had in her hand.

“I’m sorry…!” Leia quickly blurted out, hoping she didn’t end up speaking too loudly as it was a library after all. “I wasn’t paying attention, I’m really sorry. Are you okay?”

  The manga section of the library was one of the few spots on UA’s campus he genuinely enjoyed visiting. There’s countless hours of entertainment to be found among the pages, hundreds of sources for inspirations, and a plethora of tales to simply admire the artwork of. Best of all? It was mostly empty throughout the day. It was perfect for... well, anything he wanted to do, really.

  His only complaint was how, sometimes, he found his work ended up on the shelves among the big mangaka. A cheap paperback of an ameteur among a hall of professionals, as if he could hold a candle to any of them. It just... didn’t feel right. Today, however, he had a little more to worry about. He was off in his own little world, trying to plan out the next part of his own story in his head when the sudden collision with a fellow student left him scrambling to keep the stack of manga in his arms steady.

   “Ooooh, really? I don’t know what an unnatural metal shape looks like, but it sounds very cool.” Her chatter continued as they walked, her ability to talk obviously not hindered by any amount that they moved forward. What could she say, she was curious about her new friend (as she saw him). “Do you make cookie shapes? Press them into dough and make cute shapes, like snowmen. You could be a good baker’s worker when you grow up!”

   “Oh, a first year? So I’m older than you, that’s funny,” Rachel replied, taking a step or two forward to try to initiate them walking to his dorm. She had no clue where the support dormitories were, so she would just have to hope that he’d lead the way. “You just shape metal all day? You don’t smell like metal too badly. Does your quirk shape the metal or do you do it by hand?” 

   “Oh! Ok, we can go then,” the girl chimed, putting her phone back into her bag. No need to type down a date if she could just buy what she needed now. Her only reasoning for waiting was to be polite, but he seemed to be fine with allowing her to go to his dorm to buy, so she wasn’t one to continue arguing about it. “Lead the way! Oh, and what’s your name? What year are you? We can get to know each other as we walk.”

   “Ah? Manga sales?” She would have never thought of that, but she also assumed those were only for published mangakas. “I didn’t know you were that professional! I can wait to go to one of those instead of invading your dorm privacy,” Rachel offered, taking out her phone and immediately typing something before looking back up at him. “When is the next manga sale you do? Where, too?”

   “Might be you? I’ll take that as a yes, then,” the girl beamed, halting her speed walk to stand a foot or two away from him. Her blabbering almost continues before she stops herself, pausing to offer a quick bow. “My name is Rachel Kuchen. It’s nice to meet you,” at which point another short bow was given. If she was going to bother him, she at least wanted to try and be polite about it. “Do you sell them– the manga you make? I read the first chapter from a friend, I’d like to read more. It’s okay if not, I just wanted to ask.”

   Standing outside the support classroom, Rachel bided her time as she scrolled through some random content on her phone, waiting for the class inside to end so she could speak to the mangaka she’d heard about through the grapevine, mainly through friends that already had their hands on the homemade comic. It was simple, but it intrigued her, and so she’d managed to weasel her way out of her current class to wait for his to end in order to ask him about it. As students began to pour out, she quickly spotted her target, though he seemed to be walking pretty fast for someone that just got out of class. Maybe he had somewhere to be?

   “Hey. Hey,” she chimed out, shooting from a standstill to a hurried walk a few paces behind the boy. “Support guy, with the black hair, yellow eyes,” she continued to talk, aiming to get his attention before she caught up to his brisk pace, still lagging a step or two behind him. She understood that her descriptors were vague, but there wasn’t much more to him in physical details, so she simply had to play with the cards she was dealt. “Are you the one that makes that comic about the inventor and the fighting tournaments?”

  Thank the gods that class was over. It never ended soon enough on the days when Mei was at the height of her antics like she was today. Frankly, it was a miracle that nothing exploded as they had the last few times she went nuts with creating her gadgets. With the straps of his backpack clenched tightly in his hands, he was walking as fast as he could to distance himself from the madness of the school day he just got through.
